Straw man is a perfectly apt term when people ignore your point and misrepresent it as something else. What would you prefer I call it?

It's almost as bankrupt as your snide post.

You were looking for something that simply wasn't there, unless some weird confirmation bias is applied. I thought we were having a civil discussion about HDR.

Yep, downloaded just a bit ago and was surprised by how good it looks. Hoping this becomes a trend and would like to see some HDR/SDR comparison vids in the future.

Yeah I hope so too. Right now we can't really compare it. I guess if I were to have two Xbox consoles with both FH3 or Gears 4 you could kinda compare it. On my 65B6 there doesn't seem to be a way to switch to a different non HDR picture mode when HDR content plays.

Doesn't MS have any of those raw game clips they always have from E3? Perhaps where FM7 is not in HDR?

Groove works fine for me, but Spotify would be a nice addition. The Playstation + Spotify deal is one of the strangest in this industry.
I've tested Groove and I do like it, its just I've used Spotify ever since private beta and ive got a family account and I don't want to move things over.

Well I'm a human being, not a web site ;) Otherwise yeah, I created Gamersyde and I'm in charge of the technical part mostly. As for the bandwidth costs, it's not that bad thanks to cheap hosting here in France.

Hee hee - I do (kind of) know the difference, but was just typing quickly.

In case anyone is interested, I've tried out the videos on an LG OLED, EF950V. Weirdly the TV refuses to play any of the videos over a network share. By any I mean a bunch of the 4K videos on the site from the Xbox presser. (Anthem, Ori and Forza, plus the new HDR ones). The files were hosted on a Win10 PC and shared via the "libraries" functionality.

Anyway copying the same files onto USB and they played fine....so how is HDR?

I *think* I could see the difference, although it wasn't as stark as some descriptions in this thread. I do wonder if HDR has more effect on LCD screens where the ultra-bright whites of HDR help conceal the not-black blacks?

My only comparable footage is the original Forza footage from the MS presser, which is a mix of the desert and nurburgring tracks.

The new HDR footage in the desert certainly looks better, but I don't know how much is due to native capture versus Gamersyde capturing a 4K stream. The surrounding cliffs and rocks looked more "3D", as in they had more light and shadow areas and the contrast in light levels was higher.

In the Nurburgring footage (where aptly the weather is terrible) it's hard to see much of a difference as the track, sky and cars are all grey. Towards the end the sunlight looks a bit more dramatic in the HDR version...but again it's hard for me to say there was a massive difference.

I'd love to do more testing with identical footage, captured with and without HDR....it would be even more interesting to see them on two identical TV's side by side.

TV settings were ISF 1, but with sharpness turned down to 0, edge enhancement off, and colour balance put back to Neutral/medium...I have no idea why it defaults to Warm2!
OLED brightness was *only* 80 out of 100 but I normally have it down at like 50 anyway.

Did this get posted yet?

Forza Motorsport 7 will feature OneDrive music support...

https://www.windowscentral.com/forza-motorsport-7-will-feature-onedrive-music-support

I love the feature, but the "cute" little shift they did with Horizon 3 where originally they said it wouldn't require a paid membership, then definitely changed over to requiring a paid membership to stream your own music as a station left me grey on this.

I'm seeing comments on the article claiming the opposite; that you don't need a paid membership to stream your own music from groove, but that doesn't match up with my experience. The current version of FH3 even has a specific message explaining that you need the membership (even when a personal playlist is selected), which didn't originally display.

I'm afraid that OLED TV is two years old now and doesn't portray the HDR in the best possible way. Compare the data from Rtings with the latest 2017 C7:

E9500

HDR Peak 2% 402 cd/m2
HDR Peak 10% 400 cd/m2
HDR Peak 25% 399 cd/m2
HDR Peak 50% 226 cd/m2
HDR Peak 100% 135 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 2% 402 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 10% 400 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 25% 399 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 50% 226 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 100%135 cd/m2

C7

HDR Real Scene Peak Brightness 718 cd/m2
HDR Peak 2% 717 cd/m2
HDR Peak 10% 733 cd/m2
HDR Peak 25% 447 cd/m2
HDR Peak 50% 313 cd/m2
HDR Peak 100% 143 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 2% 695 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 10% 703 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 25% 429 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 50% 291 cd/m2
HDR Sustained 100% 137 cd/m2

Not only the latest OLED TVs get much brighter, they also improved the ABL a lot which helps with HDR.

If I don't have a pro or Xbox x yet is there enough content out there to justify 4k HDR set?

I have Netflix and Amazon prime

Could get an Xbox s I guess but there are some good deals out there now ok 4k HDR sets, although I can probably wait until November

Finally watched it.

Absolutely incredible. This almost looks nextgen. Incredible, the crispness, the level of detail, the lighting! T10 finally did it. The freaking lighting looks superb.

And some people say HDR is just a fad. Come on now. 😱

I watched BBC radio 1 's E3 video last night, and they attended the press event by MS where they could play the games, they showed FM7 and different to the demos we've seen had damage and dirt accumulation although it was hard to judge the quality since it was offscreen, are there any other videos around?

The Inside Track
We are going to release a few HDR videos today, PS4 Pro stuff of course. Horizon, Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank, Wipeout and a few others are all in the pipe :)

It was all awesome, but the final 20 seconds of the storm race, turning into the straight with the sun breaking through, is probably the best thing I've seen regarding lighting coupled with HDR. Astounding.

I'll check it out later, but I've had no message stating I need to subscribe to play my own music.

Maybe I'm not used to driving games' graphics since I don't play them that much, but didn't find the footage particularly astounding.

It looks clean, yes, but kind of sterile/lifeless. Something seems wrong with the lightning, I can't really put my finger on what exactly.

The track wasn't that pretty either.

Watched it in HDR on an lg OLED TV btw

How could you not be impressed by the last minute of the storm race, it's stunning.

I'm getting the same message now...wonder what that's about? I'll send a tweet to PG. Not too much of an issue, as I can play the actual Groove app in the background, but it's weird.

That's definitely new. I played through the Hot Wheels expansion using the feature without having an active subscription.

Yeah, I'm "glad" to hear it's not just me, but it's totally weird. I did the same background music workaround.

I have no idea what you think this message meant. They were Microsoft PR pics. Imgur is not the "source"

Yes, they were however where I found them.

You said they are not 4K, when you click on them they are huge, too big for my 32"1600p monitors

Watched this a couple nights back.

Overall I don't think I was as impressed as most seem to be (watching on LG C7), but there were some parts that did look particularly impressive.

Specifically, the near end of the second clip (with the GT-R iirc), when coming around the final turn, down the straight away, the storm has moved on and the sun is starting to poke through the dark clouds ahead. It looked really, really, really good.

I'm not sure if that was One X footage or what, but graphically the game didn't look as impressive as I assume it will look on PC. Some weird aliasing here and there.

The HDR stuff looked really good in a couple spots, but I wasn't blown away overall. Can't wait to see what it looks like irl later this year.

Silly question, but is there a way to watch this on my TV without downloading it and saving to USB?

I only have an Xbox One S
