Fact: Aisle seats are the best seats on planes

When I was younger I used to think window seats are where it's at. I loved looking out the window and seeing the world.

Well, the world isn't doing it for me anymore, and I'm cranky and old. Aisle seats are now the way.

Pros:

- You can get up and not have to ask other people to excuse you
- First one up and out when the flight lands, which also means first access to the bins
- Massively reduced claustrophobia
- Not as much social overhead with people
- Easy to flag down flight attendants

Cons:

- Occasionally get bumped/crop-dusted on by people and carts going down the aisle
- Can't see shit out the windows

Surely everyone will be in 100% agreement with me on this.

Aisle seats are terrible because you have to get up whenever others want to get up or deal with their ass in your face.

They're basically a necessity if you're tall, so my husband always takes the aisle. I'm 5'1" so I'm cool anywhere. Pretty much the only perk of being short.

I only ride business / private / first class so those don't apply to me.

Agreed. Another con is that you have to stand up or turn out your legs to the side if the middle and window seat people want to get out, but it's a minor price to pay for the added legroom and flexibility. Aisles for life.

Middle seats are worst without question.

On any long flight I go aisle for sure. Short hops that are basically take off, food/beverage, landing I go window the isle is way to busy.

Definitely agree with the legroom thing, but the biggest con compared to a window seat is that there's nowhere comfy to put your head to sleep. I'm terrible at sleeping sitting down, but at the window seat I can use the wall to put my travel pillow and lie kind of sideways. This only really counts if it's a long haul flight more than 8 hours travel time.

You get to stretch your legs every time someone gets up to take a piss, which can be great on long flights, so that's actually a bonus point for aisle seats.

No way. I've always preferred secluded nooks, especially in public. (Unless I'm on stage or something. Then, curiously, I am absolutely fine.) Aisle seats make me feel like I've got a limelight bursting at my face in the worst way.

I'll keep the window seats. I don't want to get up whenever someone else wants to get up, in addition to getting up myself. I don't need to piss super duper often so I'm good.

Eh, I don't use the bathroom much on planes and just like to sleep, so being interrupted by other people who need to use the bathroom is a con.

I still prefer window so I can just be left alone to sleep.

I disagree OP, window seat is the best. I never get up during flights, rarely need the flight attendants, wait to get off the plane (to avoid the people who are fighting to get off quickly) and absolutely hate having people walking by me all the time. Plus the view (as noted).

Emergency row seats are the best OP. All of the perks of aisle seats, but no one ramming into your shoulder or getting up to let the rest of the row out.

Wrong.

- You can get up and not have to ask other people to excuse you

I barely get up during plane rides so this is not a big deal to me.

- First one up and out when the flight lands, which also means first access to the bins

So? It's not like my luggage is going to go somewhere. I can wait.

- Massively reduced claustrophobia

Never has been an issue with me.

- Not as much social overhead with people

?

- Easy to flag down flight attendants

Not really a big deal. I never had an issue getting a attendants attention in a window seat. Though, I rarely need to speak to a flight attendant.

I'm a window seat guy all the way. I can rest my head on the wall to sleep, and I don't have to worry about people getting up to go to the bathroom.

This is the killer for me. Plus the people who always need to go to the toilet now sitting inside of me.

Sorry, to get my sleep nothing beats the window seat.

On a short flight with no checked-in luggage an aisle seat is ok. But it needs to be in front of the plane otherwise it is useless.

I try to sleep on planes and I find window seating best for this.

1: on long haul flights I bring a travel pillow and a jacket, wrap that shit up and its big enough that I can lean against the wall comfortably.

2: no-one is asking you to move.

3: no-one is handing a tray over you while you are trying to sleep.

Honestly on flights I just want to be left alone and an Isle seat is a guarantee that wont happen.

Nah, window seats all the way. I've seen some amazing things flying over the pacific and atlantic.

Yes. I once saw a blue whale just after takeoff from San Diego. Amazing.

Also these days there is about 2 mm clearance between your seat and the beverage cart. On more than one occasion, I've had my elbows whacked like a mother fucker by the cart being pushed by. No thanks.

While the extra leg room to the side is nice, I hate getting up for others needing the bathroom so I prefer the window seat.

I prefer aisle seats for everything, theaters, sporting events, concerts, planes, etc.

I hate having to try to move past people, especially when they refuse to get up or are huge and a pain to move past. I just find it easier.

This is me. Hate the fucking middle and aisle seats. I take care of draining my body waste before I board so I can sit peacefully by the window and rest till the destination.

The few times I didn't get window, I had some ass either disturb me for the bathroom, keep the shade open with the sun beaming in, or the constant reaching for drinks and snacks. Plus im a big guy and get bumped all the damn time. Im over the ass rub on the arm, elbow on flights. Window is where I prefer to be.

Most business class seats are in a row...Making an aisle even more essential. If you are in the middle or window, and the other person is lying down flat sleeping. You are jumping over them as to not wake them up.

First class though...you might have your own little private cabin. So that's different.

I still like window seats for short flights (under 4 hours), but long hauls...No way. Give me the aisle everytime.

Window seat is by far superior. You can prop a pillow up & sleep without worrying. I dunno why anyone would be bothered about social interactions or being the first in your group to get off the plane. Comfort is the most important.

If you have the bladder of a child, sure. Window all the way for me.

Window sets get to see outside and control the light in the row. You only sleep if the Window seat says so.

>:-3

When I was flying back from Korea in April, the nice lady forced me to close my window.

THEREBY ENDING MY REIGN

#TeamWindow is great until it's bathroom time. But I can sleep/dowhatIwant and [USUALLY] not be disturbed by anyone.

Emergency exits are my favourite because I'm tall and I like to sprawl out my legs. Only con is that there is no window.
