Teen charged with killing her boyfriend during a failed YouTube stunt

They probably only had one book.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
They should have probably tried testing out whether a book can stop a Desert Eagle bullet from a foot away before trying it with a person standing behind said book.

A Desert Eagle shoots a .50 round, at least similarly sized to the one shown below (on the far left).
A book could conceivable stop a low caliber bullet like a .22, but not a .50 round.

I'm no gun expert, but this is not correct. The bullet looks nothing like that.

I can't believe the absurdity of it all.

I guess a lot of people didn't read the article, because it looks like they had shot a book before:

Perez told authorities that Ruiz eventually "convinced" her to shoot the book he was holding.

She said that he had showed her a different book which the bullet did not go through.

So I guess they had shot a dif. book previously and it had stopped a bullet? I don't know...I just can't imagine how dumb some people can be.

Imagine getting punched by Mike Tyson swinging at five thousand miles per hour while he's wearing the Infinity Gauntlet.

What the fuck.

What kind of book were they expecting to stop it?

That one?

I mean I am not a gun expert but I'm 90% certain the round on the far left is from a big-ass rifle and not a pistol. Desert Eagle is powerful but its still a pistol.

.50 cal bullet vs a book.

How the FUCK do u bet on the book.

I don't know guns at all but just from pop culture I could tell you that near nothing will save you from a point blank Deagle.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

No.
The far left is what most people think of when they hear .50 but it's .50 BMG. .50 AE is much, much smaller.
The one in the middle here is what she used.

I find this very hard to believe.

Watched some of their videos and it is sad their daughter isn't going to have a father or mother anymore.

Multiple lives are ruined. Real messed up situation. I don't understand how two people could think doing that was a good idea.

Watching one of their old videos and man, I know I'm not the target demo, but talk about the most uninteresting people in the world talking about the most uninteresting things possible.

And about every kid I know around my son's (elementary school) age dreams about being a YouTube star. Parents need to parent hard when it comes to stuff like this. I imagine the people who make it big like this couple was hoping to do is a infinitesimal percentage of youtubers as a whole. Expectations need to be set.

As I'm typing this with their video on in the background, I hear them talking about "imagine when we have 300,000 subscribers" and how they'd be recognized everywhere they go. Then they started talking to a couple of eight-year-olds about their channel, saying they'd write down the name for them. Good grief.

Ah this is horrifying. And stupid.

Just imagine being in her position and realising that he's dead.

This is assuming they actually are dumb and not her wanting to kill her boyfriend.

No, that is a .50 rifle round.

Caliber has nothing to do with power of a projectile. Its simply the diameter. Its the speed and weight that you would need to calculate.

Desert eagle round has much less gunpowder and weight than a .50 rifle round.

Muzzle energy is around 1500lbs vs.11,000lbs for the rifle round. Still near the top of handguns but not much more powerful than .44 magnum or any other high power handgun round.

I mean, even if the guy was wearing some kind of armor that could actually stop the bullet, there's a good chance the concussion alone could have stopped his heart.

This is a $1500-$1700. How could you possibly drop that much cash on something and not know it can easily shoot through a book.

A larger bullet doesn't necessarily mean more penetration. It comes down to the powder charge, shape, weight, composition of the bullet and rigidity of the target. Larger bullets with the same powder charge as a narrower one will penetrate less due to the larger cross section.

I'd imagine they tested it with a free standing book and most of the bullet force was lost throwing the book back. When he held it to his chest the full impact and little movement of the book allowed it to pierce more deeply.

That is if they even tested it in the first place. Either way stupid as hell to do.

There is a 7 year old video on youtube showing a desert eagle almost penetrating 2 phone books. I don't think a single book of any size would stand a chance.

Poor guy, but I pity the woman too. The notion that someone would even think this to be a good idea, much less two people... It's astounding.

GoFundMe inbound? I'm really curious what book they owned that they thought would have stopped a gun, let alone a DE round.

I've seen videos of gun-enthusiasts who wouldn't even risk getting shot while wearing a bulletproof vest and yet they attempted this stunt WITH A BOOK AND A .50 CAL?!

Did they just assume that it'd work for them because it worked for Teddy Roosevelt?

Didn't even give it a test run first?

I once saw a .30cal rifle bullet blow a footwide hole in a bandana from downrange on a range. There were mere scraps left. This was a .50 cal bullet from a foot away. Suffice to say, this will be a closed casket funeral.
