Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age |OT| You Had One Job!

Yeah you've answered your own question. Katanas also have a high combo rate to make up for some of the loss damage.

Late, but thanks for the response!

It's just kinda weird in general how in the very early game jobs don't really matter since you don't really have any abilities for most of them so everyone is still just attacking. It's not bad, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong :p

Also goddamn I'm in love with this game all over again. I loved it at the time but haven't played it since it originally came out but this is definitely solidifying it's status as #2 FF for me.

If I remember correctly you just have to enter from Rabanastre and check if the horizon is somewhat different. If it's the same as always, get back to the city and try again.

guess i've just been unlucky, thanks i'll keep zoning then

I like how most of Vaan and Ashe's early interactions consist of Vaan trying to say something and Ashe telling him to stfu. She knows she's the true mc and she ain't having it. Put that peasant in his place Queen.

Just FINALLY finished beating Lost Odyssey and I still have that itch for another RPG.

Not sure if I finally jump into Witcher 3 or Persona 5, or go out and grab FFXII.

Note: never played FFXII

Starting to feel a little bummed, I'm enjoying the story and characters a lot but I'm literally hating the combat system. I'm only at the
Leviathan
ship and i'm already super annoyed at it.

So I've just done the Tomb of Raithwall and understand that a lot of the game opens up now. Is there any reccomendations on what I should tackle and in which order?

Picked this up last night, started it this morning. Forgot how much I enjoyed this game. In a lot of ways, it was ahead of it's time.

I'm sure it's a pipe dream, but I hope future FF games take some inspiration from this. I much prefer this style of game to the more action-oriented XV. Feels modern, but still feels like a Final Fantasy game.

Final boss fight is about to begin.

Larsa,
sword in hand, as his brother asks him to stand by and witness the fall of Princess Ash: "No."

God, I love this kid. How old is he supposed to be anyway?

Larsa is 12 during the events of the game (13 during Revenant Wings). A young prince wise beyond the years.

Why do guns do so little dmg in this game compared to the other weapons type ?

Guns are always half the Attack Power of other weapons at new vendors :

lSNE3t0.png

see how it raises Balthier's stats (machinist) but how it lower everybody else (they got same tier weapons)

compare to the item just under in the list :

xDBHXax.png

This is what, more than double the attack power ! All the other items in this list are 60+ dmg...

Why do guns have so little Attack Power ? Why is that ? They don't attack faster... And Bow are same range + attack aerial enemies but they don't suffer the same nerf, same for Crossbows...

Have you looked to see if you have different ammunition types available at a vendor?

Guns ignore defense AFAIK

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I'm 2/3 into the game.

Penelo sure doesn't seem to exist in the CGI cutscenes anymore. I get the impression she was just shoved in last minute and SE forgot to add her in the CGI.

never found new munition type yet. Still at onion arrows and onion shot

That's why then. But I never seen any situation yet where it was useful. My Balthier just plain suck, dmg wise. His attacks are so weak.

Guns were always lackluster compared to other weapons. They have their uses when paired with elemental or status ammo, but they are inefficient against some monsters (like Flans).

Guns deal damage independent of the character or target's stats. Other weapons have to take into account target defense/magic defense. It's... not a great tradeoff, to be honest, especially in this version of the game where the license boards are littered with Magic Lore/Battle Lore augments.

Cool thanks. This should make Barheim more manageable at my lvl. Basch got a sword called Karkata earlier which has been a huge help so far. Not sure where I picked that up though.

Is that the first trip to bahriem or some sidequest?
Karkata is an absurdly powerful sword you get from an early trial. I got one and i sold it, it was making things too easy, i used during the elder wrym which i wasnt ready for, damn sword made a joke out of him not because of the damage but because of the near guaradeed confuse on hit. Im also finding katanas very underwhelming compared to swords.

Just beat tiamat and ive been spamming shades of black and horology lol.
Sob is especially broken in this game if you get your mage to learn it. Hits flare and scathe far too often. Horology just looks cool lol

I dunno, I sort of like guns. Piercing defence is nice.

Plus they're pretty cool. More jrpgs should have fire arms.

I've always been one of FFXII's biggest cheerleaders. I'm glad people are enjoying this version.

When did you guys first fall in love with this game? For me, it's Barheim. So good

Tbf physical weapons are weak against flans in general unless they have an elemental affinity. In most RPG the goo monsters of the bestiary need to be taken down using magic. It makes sense, stabbing a big blob of sentient jello isn't going to do much, but blowing it up will.

Question... If I hated XIII's combat, will I hate XII's as well?

I didn't like that it was basically on auto-pilot with the exception of being able to interject manual actions like using items. It was frustrating not being able to move my character as I wished to physically avoid attacks.

You still can't physically avoid attacks (unless I'm misremembering). The combat is as auto-pilot as you want it to be. You have full control over your characters at all times, but you can set up "Gambits" to make you characters do stuff under certain circumstances.

Like "Ally HP < 50%, use Cure". Stuff like that.

It's basically auto-pilot, the game, with the exception that you define how the AI is going to function, explicitly. That's either fun one it's not depending on how you like to play. You can take the controls manually during boss battles, but I feel like most people are dealing with grinding and random battles using the 2x-4x fast forward option(which is the best), so take that as you will.

Gambit question: what the hell is the difference between Foe: element-vulnerable and Foe: element-weak?

A Foe vulnerable means the enemy can be hit with that element to do normal damage. Meaning they aren't weak to it, so it won't do double damage. It just works on them.

As opposed to an enemy resisting and element and outright absorbing it.

It's basically casting fire on an enemy not weak to fire but will still be damaged by it.

lol wtf, where did they move the berserk spell now? I thought it was at the dudes at Raithwall or in Raba.

I think I bought mine in Mt Bur-whateverthenamewas. There's also Berserk accessory you can get in a chest by going to the most northern part of Estersand.

I'm at Mount Bur Omisace! Just wondering if there any good weapons I can get this early in the game??

I'm really loving the story this time around! I think the fast forward function makes the beats more close which really helps.

Man, I like the Gambit and Job systems, but most of the dungeons so far have been a real slog. I don't think I'd have made it far through the game without the fast forward feature and even then, some of the areas took a long time if you explored every corner. (The whole sandsea area.)

I'm just about to leave the Garif village. I hope the criticisms about the story falling apart in the second half are exaggerated, because so far it's great and ultimately it's what gets me through some of the more tedious areas. Really liking the characters so far, even Vaan.

There's tons of good weapons you can get, but you need to be specific about the types you need.

Haha true, I just remember getting a really good gun near the antlions early game last time I played. In general I was more just wondering about really good weapons to get early on through fleeing from OP monsters. I want a two hand great sword for my Knight but they aren't available in the shop yet :'(

Oh ok; was trying to find the spell so I could use it on the demon wall, but I ended up killing it anyway.

2h sword is one of the few weapons that's tough to get early on in the regular game. Easiest 2h sword to get is the sword of kings, which you can either get from level 10 of trial mode (as many times as you like), or you'll get it at the end of Stilshrine of Miriam. It has the bonus of not needing a license to equip.

Is Masamune still the Katana that has high rate of multiple attack? Where is it located in this version? I was using my ps2 FFXII guide but many things changed.

Garuda fight lasted about 10 seconds... the balancing in this version is pretty awful tbh, it's not like I've even done any grinding

If you used the eksir berries then that was by design.

That said, if you want some challenge, then you should consider going off the beaten path a bit. There's a ton of optional content in the game that most people will just pass on by.

Holy shit some of these hunts get intense. I was fighting Ring Wyrm and it was pretty easy until he went into berserk mode towards the end of the fight. The real MVP was Vaan who is my Whm/Uhlan. He was hitting him for like 600 a pop and his healing was more than clutch. I can't believe I passed up this Final Fantasy back in 06. I'm loving it.
