I didn't play this for 24 hours due to frustration. Today I decided to give it another go:

Those are screens from 3 out 3 matches I played today.

For me, this is not fun. It is pure frustration.

Finally managed to reach level 10

I hope the matchmaking system actually works in Ranked games, because it's a mess in Turf War.

This game has definitely rekindled my love for Splatoon. Not that I ever went "I'm sick of this, I don't like it anymore" with the first game, but taking a long break from it and now coming back for the second game has been really good for me, I think.

Apart from Salmon Run, the obvious new addition in this game, I really like what they've done with Crusty Sean and gaining and using tickets to boost EXP/cash. It means that even if I play Salmon Run or play Hero Mode I can still be rewarded in ways that's beneficial to me when playing online (in terms of earning money and gaining experience that is, not gameplay-related boosts which would've been wrong). Everything in this game is incredibly rewarding, even more so than the first game.

I feel like you have to get comfortable with losing. Games are so quick it doesn't really matter all that much cause you'll win eventually.

Winning online depends on the team you're in.

In turf war unfortunately one player can't carry a team, this isn't call of duty team deathmatch lol. Although some people play it like that, the amount of times I see my team not even inking the turf at the start and running to the centre of the map to try and get kills.

Like you TikeMyson I can find it frustrating at times, not losing in isolation but when you go on a mad losing streak. I end up taking a break, as otherwise the only thing I'll be breaking is the switch...Against a wall.

If you think Turf War is frustrating with randoms, then don't play Salmon Run, you actually rank down as you lose lol. The worst thing is, you want to play more to make up the rank you just lost, but end up losing even more....

Are the people populating your plaza random? Is the main purpose having this feature to find gear to order? It would be cool if there were other ways to interact.

My current look:

I wish Inkopolis Square was bigger and had more fun stuff, it was the thing that I wanted to improve from Splatoon 1 the most. Still a cool, good-looking place.

I think it's a mixture of players you've recently played with/against and players with popular posts. Not sure if people from your friends list are there as well, I think that would be nice.

I am. But I'm losing maybe 90% of the games I play. Mostly due to people who end the matches with 0 points. Also it just feels like the matchmaking is trying to fuck me up. I know, I know... Levels don't show how skilled you are, but with higher levels you get more status effects on your equipment, right? I mean... look at the screenshots: 2x level 8, 2x level 9 versus level 5, level 2, an afk level 6 and an afk level 4. The other match: Level 17, level 12, level 10, level 5 versus level 10, level 4, level 5 and an afk level 8.
I know I'm no good player. But this is just ridiculous.

Do you have to play the Single Player to unlock stuff for multiplayer? When can I unlock more slots for my gear? It's kind of vague about this with "unlock this ability by battling while wearing this gear".

So. I checked something.
I'm currently an overachiever in Salmon Run and close to Profreshional (Payment about 180%) . This is equal to ca. 80% in local play.
Wondering what kind of madness 200% in local play is lol

You can get some clothes from and weapon skins from the single player. You unlock individual slots as you use the gear, you can see how many slots are possible. Only higher level gear allows you to unlock more sub slots at the moment.

wait what? How do you know that's the comparison? Cause that's insane if that is how it is.

Aerospray has good coverage but sucks for getting splats due to very low damage and inaccurate aim. Depends on the mode really.

It really depends how you play. I tend to kill 5-8 people in a match. Ninja Squid and ambush. Although, this means my ink coverage is only 18-19,000 instead of in 2,100 like some people here.

It looks like the reason your teams lost each of those matches was because of disconnections, which just meant you got unlucky. Your own personal score is in the high 600s, which is a perfectly reasonable score in Turf War. I don't know any other details on how you played in those matches, but your score suggests you're decent at the mode and would probably be on the winning side more often than not as long as the team sizes stay even due to no one D/Cing.

Then again, if you get so frustrated you quit playing after less than 10 minutes of playing, then Splatoon 2 might not be the game for you. Actually any game with online multiplayer might not be the game for you.

Where do you get the currency to buy Crusty Colin's (name?) boosts?

You can also get tickets from playing local multiplayer. You get a stamp card while playing locally and when you fill it up, (which takes 8 matches I think) you get a food ticket.

Been having a blast with the game. Normally im rubbish at multiplayer games and get stomped, but this one seems to click with me. Usually one of the top player in my lobbies and on the wining team. Even when i lose i feel like i can just shrug it off.

As a Splatoon n00b though, i have 1 stupid question. In Lobbies it shows what weapon you are using with some freshness meter thing? For instance, im using the duelies and it says 'Superfresh' with a number 15.5? What is this and what does this do for you?

Probably isn't counting the win bonus, which is 1000p

I don't think it counts the 1000p bonus for winning.

Thanks that makes sense, but not sure why it wouldn't just show the score with the win bonus. Seems odd.

Games like these always make me wonder if the game actually does matchmake based on weapons. I salute you Quad Roller Squad! I was just like you once upon a time!

Yeah it doesn't make any sense. I asked why we couldn't change our weapons inbetween matches in the lobby and was told that it was so the game could balance teams out depending on the weapons, but that's not happening.

So they might as well just let us select the damn weapons we want. The amount of times I'm seeing teams of 4 Aerospray MG's.

It's basically a win streak counter, the more matches you win, the higher it goes, and then you unlock rewards. Well an XP bonus.

However it needs to be a streak, if you suddenly lose matches in a row the counter goes down. If you're really bad you'll be back to "Dry" in no time lol.

It's a winning strike meter. you gain extra points if you achieve certain amount of points. It seems like evey 5 points you gain a bonus.
5.0 / 10.0 and so on

That's the Vibe Meter. Everytime you are able to raise it to a multiple of 5, you are rewarded with a freshness bonus after winning. You may have noticed after winning a game that you would get a "Freshness Bonus" in Purple Ink on the Level and Gear screen after winning; the bonus gets larger the higher your freshness vibe.

EDIT: and answers like three times as I wrote that. geeze :p

Can someone explain why in regular turf war people don't fucking move or splat anything?

My best guess is that they accidentally join a game and choose to disconnect.

The menu option to continue or end is not great. I wish you could press B to cancel.

My game finally arrived last night so I'm looking for some GAF friends, mostly just to play random matches with because it's fun to splat a familiar name or two. Nothing fancy, I'm a Splatoon 1 vet but... that doesn't mean I'm particularly good.

heavy splatling is absolute garbage in salmon run above 150%, the windup time just murders you the moment the scales tip into chaos

I'm playing BF 1 since 3 Weeks, til now I played about 25 Hours and I am on a 53% winning rate.
Also I bought Titanfall 2 this Friday. Didn't play it that much yet, just about 2 hours with a win rate of about 40%... but I'm still having a blast because the games feel balanced, even when my team is losing.

I guess Splatoon simply isn't a game for me.

Yeah, we should be able to at least quit out of a lobby inbetween matches. Can't see the harm in that to be fair.

I know we can choose to quit immediately after a match, but I'd still like the option to exit from a lobby.

The weapons for Salmon Run can be frustrating sometimes. I wish you didn't get buckets or rollers

I wish we could just have more freedom full stop. Pick any weapon in Salmon run, change weapons in the lobbies, and mix and match subs, specials, and mains.

That along with being able to exit of a lobby would make the game incredible for me.

Lol. The weapon loadout right now is pure crap. Roller, brush, splatting are all bad at high levels

This was my experience for over half my matches in the first 10 levels. I haven't had disconnected teammates since level 10 and I'm level 15 now. I assume people with bad connections don't keep playing. I just stopped caring about it and tried different weapons/strategies in those matches.

Btw but does anybody know how to use squid beacons? I place them in the maps, but I cannot work out how to super jump to them (nor do any of my teammates).

I played a ton of Splatoon for WiiU, I love the game, but it really should be "Watch TheApatheticOne be the highest scoring person on his team, usually by far, and lose everytime". Sure, its longwinded, but it absolutely reflects the game for me and its super frustrating. Id rather be last on the winning team than constantly be asked carry dead weight. Hell, just spread it out with how much it happens.

That said, game is amazing, love it on the Switch! Haha

I never thought getting a Pro Controller would make me better in a game, but damn. Finally found a Pro Controller and bought it and first few games with it have gone so much better than with the Joy Con grip-thingy.

What level are you at right now? That was happening to me a bit before I unlocked Ranked Mode. In Turf War at the lower levels I often got stuck with people who were still learning how to play Splatoon, which is understandable. The result was me always at the top of my team but losing. Now I'm always at the top of my team but mostly winning.

Lobby options like this and loadout/control changes are a mystifying omission, especially given that this is a sequel.

Still haven't gotten 10 or 20 chunks to build an ability and am starting to think one needs to buy a lot of gear with ability they want to tears them down and get them. I have a build in mind I want to make and want to find a way to expedite the process.

I used a male to male aux cable to plug my Switch's audio output into my desktop's mic input, then I just used VLC to playback the Switch audio with some slight audio delay. Apparently W10 makes this easier, but I use Debian Linux.

This is ingenious.
I also saw a reddit post with someone doing the exact same thing. Thanks.

The argument is that it would "break" the game.

I can't see it myself.

There's just blind loyalty to anything Nintendo do from some people....

The funniest thing is when people say the reason you're not allowed to change weapons in the lobby is because of the complicated matchmaking system that allocates a spread of weapons on each team...That shit ain't happening in Splatoon 2. I'm seeing teams with 3 Aerospray MG's a hell of a lot. And a user posted a screenshot of a team with 4 rollers.

Is there a way to turn off that Off the Hook thing? It's super annoying having it interrupt and disturb when I just want to play the game.

I haven't seen that many disconnexions, but give it a bit more time. Once you're at higher levels, I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen often (especially in ranked).

Also, on the second one, it was actually 3 vs 3 ;) And it was probably disconnexions at the very last seconds.
