I am meeting a Trump supporter this week. Help.

From experience, trying to flip his beliefs is a waste of time. I know we like to joke about #fakenews and all that shit, but a lot of Trump supporters really are like that. Any negative news is a conspiracy, and facts that are contrary to what they've been fed are just part of the "liberal agenda." It's actually kind of surreal to see in person.

And I know you're not meeting him to change him, but rather to hopefully change your friend's view on him and his beliefs, but she is probably a lost cause. Both of them are.

Though this guy sounds more like a straight up Nazi rather than a simple Trump supporter, which makes it all the more worse. Your friend wants to date a Nazi... If that's really true then you know what you have to do. Time to move on.

To keep a long story short, a Trumper has come to my country and my friend (who is clueless of politics) wants me to meet them.

Out of curiosity, what country?

I'd spin it around on them, immediately start discussing your President/PM and if they pivot into Trump just say he's trying to change the topic and he sounds like a typical (insert local fringe party here) supporter.

I dont understand this. He has his views and you have yours. If you want to meet him and be a dick in order to show him that he's a dick, might as well not meet. Seems your friend likes him and despite your views, I don't think it should be up to you to dictate who is good for her or not. Don't start shit. If the conversation goes into politics, be tactful about it.

After your update, yeah I wouldn't even bother. Dude is completely fucked in the head and is a waste of space and air.

Talk to your friend though. Help her understand what this human garbage stands for.

All else fails, you've lost a friend and you move on.

Personally i don't have patience nor desire to talk with a Trump supporter or to listen what he has to say. Not anymore.

I could understand the misguided souls who voted for him. But to support him at this point goes beyond political views, it's a statement and i don't have time for those guys anymore.

People believe and say crazy things all the time, but you still have to listen so you can then refute them. I know some people will say that gives them a platform, but they already have a platform(s) from which they got those ideas and whether they continue to trust and follow whatever that platform is partially depends on whether it makes sense to them. That's why it's worthwhile to refute and challenge them rather than let them run loose. Silence is acceptance as they say. At the very least if you refute them they are far less likely to walk around claiming the variety of things they do.

I have updated the OP with the update. I am limited to mobile so its not pretty. Just a copy paste.

I also want to thank all the people providing me with links. It helps me brush up and memorise who is providing what information and where they got that information from.

You are really going with this?

All right man. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Well, at least you're working hard to earn your status as a pariah within your social circles. Gotta admire your dedication.

Just don't post a thread afterwards asking GAF why no one invites you anywhere anymore.

Well......Even when your statement is correct in most cases, i don't think this applies to Trump Supporters.

Try to reason with a current Trump supporter. See how that goes......

Heaven forbid someone loses facebook friends for not wanting to associate with genocide advocates. Oh the humanity!

You know people do interact in real life outside of Facebook, correct? He's talking about someone he's actually meeting in person, and his plans to act like a complete idiot upon that meeting.

Also, I'd put money on his more hyperbolic claims of dude's beliefs being 100% bullshit to get more people to support his extraordinarily bad idea. I realize social awareness is something rarer than a fucking unicorn on GAF, but it sometimes pays not to act like a toddler in public.

Did the op actually provide examples of the hateful comments, or indicate how he heard them ? or is it an assumption based on political affiliation?

👏👏👏

I know when I am faced with a potentially uncomfortable situation my first reaction is to escalate that motherfucker as hard and fast as possible!

You want to argue with someone about something you know nothing about and assume he is wrong. Are you sure your not a trump supporter?

You... You do realize how insane this all sounds right? And how bad it's going to end? Like, there is literally no reason to get into a political discussion with this guy at all. If anything, coming from a strictly outside perspective based on what you posted in your update, it sounds more like you're just trying to rationalize some deep-seated urge to get in a fight with a random person and this just happens to be the one opportunity you have to have a bunch of other people help you bulk up on facts you don't actually know yourself and couldn't be bothered to look up... I'm hoping that's not the case, mind you, but it's very much how it reads... The niavity of your entire "plan" here is just mind boggling.

You want to argue with someone about something you know nothing about and assume he is wrong. Are you sure your not a trump supporter?

could just talk like actual people instead of having to debate those that have different views?

Why do you feel it necessary to go on the political attack/debate stance straight away?

Yeah.. Find common ground.

Still I reallllllllly wish Hillary had been elected back in 2008. And Obama had been president now.

To keep a long story short, a Trumper has come to my country and my friend (who is clueless of politics) wants me to meet them.
I would like specific evidence to use to counter argue this man. I've always accepted his way is wrong on a moral level. But I need evidence of facts as to why Trump is bad. Also specifically as to why muslims are not destroying america.

I know the sane move is to not interact with him. I know nothing will come of it. But nevertheless I need to try. For more information this guy is very anti-muslim, pro-trump, anti-clinton. He deserves to be shamed and made unwelcome here.

EDIT: I recieved permission to share more of the story from my friend.

Ok after discussing it with my friend (who gave her consent to make the thread to begin with) I can reveal a little more.

This man publically calls for the mass genocide of muslims and to put women back in the kitchen like the good ol' days.
However he is a focused individual, always working hard.

It is for this reason my 20yo friend has fallen in love with him. As he is the exact opposite of a bad boyfriend she broke up with last year.
I am all for her finding love, and I care very deeply for her. But this union is a mistake, but she's too far gone. She is a good honest decent person. Unable to hate or be spiteful.

This man is the bane of society. A literal walking nazi. I cannot be friends with him. I will not. There is no nice person who thinks slavery was good and shame on anyone who thinks there is.

She wants me to meet him to prove he is a good person. I will out of respect for her. But hearing about him from her I know he will go on about things I object morally. She is too in love to disagree with him.

I know Trump is the worst thing in modern memory. I know he's a crook and a liar. A tax dodger, a sexist, a racist, and idiot. These are the facts, I know these.
When I made the thread it was in the knowledge that this conversation would pan out:

Him: 'those muslims eh. Killing is their way.'
Me: 'i think your talking about extremists. Majority of muslims are peaceful people.'
Him: who told you that? Your fake news media?'
Me: well 1, i know muslims. And 2 (insert fact reference matierial here) if you wanna check it out yourself, or whatever.

Don't get me wrong, this man is my moral enemy. But I will keep the peace for my friend. I want him to spout his nonsense so that I can casually rebuke him. In this way it will show him that other cultures don't put up with his shit.

As far as I'm concerned, and this is the part my friend doesnt know about. 2 outcomes will happen. First she will see just how hateful and nasty he is. Secondly i will confirm that i had misjudged my friend, and may have to end seeing her. Either way the outcome is why i will meet him.

I know you shouldnt judge somebody by their political beliefs, but genocide? Slavery? Racism? Sexism? I refuse to be anything but contempt to hostile to an individual who wears these words like a badge of honour.

My experience has been that just by asking them questions about their asinine comments tends to get them all tied up in logic loops and repeated talking points.

Also, the current Trump-lover is more addicted to hating and spiting "libruls" and progressives than they are about actually loving Trump. They love him more than ever now because of how much he and they "trigger" us, when in reality, they're the humungous snowflakes, offended by everything, scared of each and every idea outside of their tiny fart bubble.

When he says something stupid, racist, shocking or whatever, just ask him to expound on it, giving more information. That way, you're not attacking him, and he gets to take you all down his little fearful, hateful rabbit hole, maybe scaring his new girlfriend in the process.

The sooner you can expose his true scared and hateful self the better, but know that going at him right off the bat isn't the way.

Why would you engage with someone where your moral compasses act on opposite spectrums? Why not just avoid politics all together and talk about movies and sports and the newest coolest thing they are up too?

Yeah op, this

Don't go looking for a fight, that's just dumb

If your goal here is to show how insane that guy is to your friend, you are going about this the wrong way, you should go in the complete opposite way, and 1 up that guy, just go full trump on it, be crazy like him, talk stupid shit, like supporting torture, genocide, grabbing women by the pussy, and so on.
If after all that you haven't given a different perspective to your friend about how insane the other guy is actually being, then well doubt anything will do it for her except going through it and potentially getting burned.

yo spill it.

it's a little bit funny if your friend turned out to be racist and hid it from you.

sad, but funny, in a fuck thats sad kind of way.

I'd never want to meet with a piece of shit as described in the op and I could not keep a friend that wanted to meet with one either . Slavery was good ? Genocide of muslims?
What.
The.
Fuck.
Edit: ah shit. Not surprising, but I'm sorry op.

If anybody was interested in how this all ended and bring closure to the thread.

I lost a friend.

Racists love racists.

Guy was a total fuckhead.

We all could have told you that. Frankly if someone is willing to stick with another that holds those disgusting views, theyre not worth yours or anyone else's time. They are around what they want to be around and probably hold those same values/beliefs, implicitly or explicitly.

One and done.

I'm not a Trump supporter. I don't give a rat's ass who is or who isn't. I have beloved friends that are all over the spectrum when it comes to life, religion, politics, sexuality, etc. We all just know what not to bring up, and if the situation arises, we accept each other's differences.

That said, if this person has a bunch of terrible qualities and beliefs that you don't stand for, ignore him. Say hello and leave it at that. If things go south quick, excuse yourself and leave.

Edit* woops, didn't see that the meeting has come and gone. Sorry.

Well OP, maybe some time down the line she will come around to tell her about her worst mistake. Or maybe her now boyfriend will provide her a comfy life and she won't change at all.
You're an alright person though even if it seemed like things were heading to this from the time you created the thread.
