Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age |OT| You Had One Job!

I wouldn't do this. Once you have an Esper, you also have access to the double jobs, meaning if you checkboth license boards on each character, you'll know exactly what they unlock. Waiting till you get Zodiark or Ultima will just mean you'll have made things unnecessarily awkward for 90% of try he game, and when you finally unlock all the useful perks and abilities the Espers unlock, there's be little to use them on.

For example Chuchulainn will give your Red Mage Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga. Chaos will give your Monk Holy, Protectga, Shellga and Esunaga. Whether you assign those Espers straightaway or wait till you get all 13 of them, nothing will change. You'll just be depriving yourself of those abilities until later when they won't be as useful.

Fair point. Thanks!

I've reached that point in the game where the post game is consuming my waking thoughts and won't stop till the plat is mine. Loving this game on PS4 as much as I knew I would.

Managed to get Black Hole, and consequently Mist Walker, while doing Giruvegan for the story last night. I hadn't planned on going for the platinum, but now I might.

Finally got the Platinum trophy yesterday after about 75 hours game time. Really enjoyed my time with it.

Had a lapse in thinking during Trial 100. With only Zarb and Gabranth up, Gabranth enraged and Balth (my white mage) went down, so tried to use a phoenix down on him and it kept missing. Next person also went down so threw backup members in but were underlevelled and just got decimated and wiped. Was so mad when I realized I was trying to use the PD's with my Niho user.

Next attempt went smooth as hell, and made sure to wither Gabranth. Good times.

Zodiark
. I've tried leveling. I have a bunch of members at 99. Every guide I have read say to equip a demon shield, but I can't equip one to every body in this version.

Any methods?

I know I saw it earlier here but can't find it now, but what are all the optional dungeons/Espers I can attempt before
Larsa
leaves the party for the 2nd time?

I can think of:
-Barheim (Esper)
-Garamsythe (Esper)
-Zertinan (Esper)
-Hunts (I've done up to Hunt 16)

Am I missing anything?

Lhusu Mines. Apparently you can get the key (via Antlion Hunt) to the second part of Lhusu soon as you reach Mt. Bur-Omisace. So, basically soon as you enter the 'town' but before you continue the story inside it (and Larsa leaves).

I've never tried it myself because I don't like breaking up the story at that point but I've read quite a few places that it works that way.

I'm finished around Mt Bur Omisace and apparently the next stop is Draklor. Should I do some side stuff now or should I just plow on with the story for a bit? All characters are level 30

Finally decided to get this. I already had two copies (one being IZJS), which let me play it in English on an emulator, but the additions to this seemed worthwhile. It also looks slightly better I think than even with the higher internal resolutions the emulator can do. Although at times, the game looks like a random fan texture pack, since it improves most of them, yet randomly leaves some obviously untouched.

Anyway, I don't know if it's the amazing reorchestrated music that's the largest contributor, but I never noticed how many similarities this game shares with Star Wars upon my first three playthroughs of the originals.

When will I find the technique to use telekinesis? My Basch doesn't have the ability to hit flying enemies and it's driving me crazy.

I ended up just zapping them with Zodiark. The reverse strategy saved my ass for 98 and 99 though.

Now I'm stuck at stage 100 and my spam Zodiark plan isn't going too hot. I've come too far to quit now though I ain't leaving without that damn trophy.

I never used a Demon Shield, although I did have a Black Mask. However I don't think I needed either. Shellga is crucial since it can stop Darkga from one shotting you. Darkga is instant death on anyone unless the have Shell, in which it's a 50% chance. I'd go as far as say starting the battle with a lone potential sacrifice who starts the battle on their own with Shell on.

After that nerf his attacks into the ground. Use an Archer or Foebreaker and Addle/Wither first, and then Expose and Shear for his defence. Bubble is useful but I'm not sure if worth it since you can get one shot desoite your health.

After you've nerfed him. Maintain Shellga and Hastega. Holy from your WHM (and maybe MNK) and Excalibur on your Knight do massive damage. Especially if you happen to have a White Robe. It's short work from there. Leveks don't particularly matter compared to tactics and gear. I think I was in the 60's when I took him on

As soon as you kill Ghis on 100, put Reverse back up

I just finished the 100th trial after a 2h battle and since thats's the only way to start New Game -, I decided to just start the game.

Little did I know that the game would overwrite my auto save from my main save and I just lost all of my progress from the trials. Fuck the auto save system, it should keep a separate temp save for each save file. I only got the bestiary trophy left and I'm just really annoyed now, since the trials feature a lot of rare game monsters and it would have saved me a lot of time.

I can't believe how much of this game there is that I missed in past playthroughs. Pretty sure I never visited the Mosphoran Highwastes for instance. They really nailed the rewarding exploration thing for a non-open-world game.

shouldn't you have a save from like floor 90 or so?

Finally... beat... trial mode! I spammed the crap out of Zodiark and chugged every last elixir and mega elixir I had but a win's a win.

I was down to just one

earlier when my power went out. Fortunately, instead of flying into a rage and destroying everything in sight I decided to give it another go. :D

You are right, had a save at trial 90 so I just had to fight my way up to 100 again.

How long does it take to fill the bestiary? I'm already tired of playing the same game for over a month but it's the only trophy that I have left, so I will try to complete it. I heard that you don't need to fill the lore pages, just kill one of each enemy, is that right?

Man, some early espers really don't unlock much that's useful huh. Addramelech... is there a good use for Souleater at all? I don't recall ever using it in vanilla. Shades of black on shikari/foebreaker? Or who cares?

Adrammelech is best for Time Mage unless they already have White Magic 4.

Souleater is really only useful if you're using axes/hammers or in a few boss fights.

I never fought Gilgamesh in the original, but last night I beat him (and stole his genji stuff.) A pretty great showing for him, especially the end.

When I played the original I reached the great crystal and got tired of the game, so I charged through to the ending. This is my first time seeing a lot of the higher end marks and equipment. I can see that some of my second license board choices were not optimal, but I don't think it'll stop me from accomplishing anything.

Zerg him. Forget about strategy. Get a dispel/dispel mote off ASAP, then get your top three melee characters hammering away. If it wasn't obvious, have a sacrificial lamb start the fight to circumvent the initial Darkja casting. When he/she dies, replace with your main team.

My strat was to run in with Penelo and use a dispel mote, let her die, then bring in Vaan, Balthier, and Basch. At level 99 the boss should die quickly (I was only level 58-59-ish and destroyed him). Then again, I had Zodiac spear, Mesa, and Khumba, so top tier weapons. Don't forget you obtain Brave suit and zodiac spear on the way to Zodiark (with a bit of effort getting the chests to spawn) and they will help a lot.

Yup, this happened to me too. A design worthy of Square Enix, only allowing one time access to optional new game plus modes. I swear they hire trolls as their high level programmers.

Seriously, I can't fucking start this game because I haven't found myself a good job optimization way. So far I have this:

Ashe: Bushi/Monk; Chaos/Zeromus/Zalera/Zodiark
Balthier: Time Mage/Uhlan; Adrammelech
Basch: Hunter/Knight; Mateus/Hasmaliam/Shemhazai/Chuchulain
Fran: Black Mage/Breaker; Ultima/Belias
Vaan: Red Mage/Archer; Exodus
Penelo: White Mage/Machinist; Famfrit

Nothing's gonna be perfect, honestly. My advice is to accept that the job/esper/quickening stuff is set up to make sure you always have to make some tough choices, both in IZJS and in TZA.

Don't let that bother you so much. Just pick a setup you are interested in and get in there. No regrets. I understand though, it can be overwhelming for sure. Choose and get going, you're wasting precious precious FFXII fun time!

Finally finished the Great Crystal. Even with a video guide it confused the shit out of me. Truly one of the worst designed dungeons in gaming. Gonna do Zodiark next and then Yiazmat

How should I allocate trophies between the hunters? This is so confusing and you lock yourself out of some pretty valuable stuff. Anything that makes it easier to get the Platinum?

10 to each if you want the Zodiac Spear, which is probably what you want from that in the first place.

I'm going to start this tonight. Got any last minute advice for someone going in blind (as in not having played the PS2 original)?

Take your time and experiment with the gambit system. You can be under-leveled for most of the game if you have the right gambit set-up. In my experience there's only one or two hard DPS checks in the game so don't worry about your level too much, focus on gambits, gear, and the licence board.

10/10/10 for the Zodiac Spear & Zodiac Escutcheon or 5 A 5 B 20 S for the extra Ribbon and Genji Gloves.

Probably the best options overall. The spear and a shield can be gotten elsewhere but it's a drag to do so.

I hear genji gloves is important for clearing the hardest content? Or will the zodiac spear do me just as well?

The gloves are nice but the hunt club reward is basically an extra pair since you can easily steal one from Gilgamesh. Mostly a question of whether you want to (or can) use two.

Whether you'll use the spear a lot depends on what your Uhlan's second job is. For instance, if it's Knight they may be better off with Excalbiur in a lot of places, but if it's something like Time Mage you'd certainly prefer the spear.

The other options for the Zodiac items are in 1% spawn rate chests which may try your patience.

Managed to get ~40 of the rare game monsters. I don't see the fun in this (you should have been able to encounter most of them during a normal walkthrough) so my time with FFXII has finished, for now.

I will probably come back someday because I hate seeing the trophy percentage at 97%, but I have more games to play before Yakuza: Kiwami and I don't see myself wasting more time zoning in and out in every area just to one shot one enemy.

I personally went for the extra Ribbon and Genji Gloves as you can just RNG manipulate for the Gendarme in Great Crystal, and RNG manipulate the Zodiac Spear in Henne Mines.

I'm looking forward to this trophy the least.

Do any of the rare beats show up in trials? I'd prefer to save trials for last.

There are rare beasts in the trial mode and they carry onto your bestiary. I did the 100 trials and explored every map, fighted every enemy that showed up and I had only encountered ~30 rare game monsters.

There are 80 of them lol

Maybe I'm missing it, but the list posted in here doesn't have a Ribbon as an item gained from this. You get one from giving Stok your final 5 trophies?

If so, think I'd rather have the extra genji gloves and ribbon than the Zodiac gear....tough decision though.

Well that's wack. Are the rare beats in the trial mode guaranteed to show up while you're running through it, or do you have to do extra shit for em to spawn?
