The SEGA Renaissance (Even if they're not that involved) - where to now?

Sonic Mania. Wonderboy: The Dragon's Trap Remake, Rez Infinite.

These games are being developed by people who either worked on classic Sega games originally, or were such fans of the games that Sega allowed them to use the IP to make their game. Sonic Mania they had involvement in, but basically had none for the Dragon's Trap or Rez.

Alongside that we've got Monster Boy, a game that's a sequel to Wonderboy in everything but name. People seem to clearly want to work with or base something on classic Sega franchises, and you guys probably want to have someone make them.

What other SEGA franchises of yore would you like to see revived directly, and by who? Should Zeboyd games be making Phantasy Star V? Should the people behind Assault Android Cactus be making a a Gunstar Heroes game? What do you want to see?

that puzzling face
Genesis had a lot of great shoot-em-ups.

I'd take a fresh spin on Vapor Trail, MUSHA, Aero Blasters, etc. that aren't bullet-hell.

However, this definitely is a genre with more of a scattershot of great games as opposed to a more recognizable long-running franchise like Alex Kidd, Sonic, Phantasy Star, etc. so I'm probably just looking for great shmups rather than a specific franchise revival.

I'd love to see VR adaptations of some of their IP. Virtua Cop, House Of The Dead, Gunblade NY are all ripe for the plundering. Even Virtua Racing or Virtua Fighter could work.

Phantasy Star V
Streets of Rage 4 (Sonic Mania style)
Skies of Arcadia 2

One of those would be swell, thanks.

Combovers don't work when there is no hair
OutRun Mania, Streets of Ragemania, Sega Disney Classics Mania (they already remade Castle of Illusion, but Lucky Dime Caper and Quackshot would be nice).

I think with BotW, Nintendo has proven that they are worthy to work on a Landstalker sequel. Hopefully Sega will allow them if they ask really nicely.

Yakuza and Virtua Fighter on PC. Maybe even MadWorld and the Atlus games.

Then ports to PC and modern console of all their arcade games that never got home ports, or only got mediocre home ports.

Then a blitz of DC games ported/emulated on PC/modern consoles.

Then a mini DC.

Then a new Sega Rally.

Then Vanquish 2.

Then partner with Nintendo for Bayonetta 3.

Please let the Streets of Rage Remake team release the work they did.

Sonic Mania proves the interest is there for good reworkings of classic games.

Shenmue 3

The only thing SEGA has done for Shenmue III is let Yu Suzuki use the license. They are not involved in any other way. Not in development or in marketing.

We should give them credit for the PC ports, Yakuza, and Persona though.

Let the Banner Sage people give Shining Force the Sonic Mania treatment.

Also new Virtua Fighter, because it's about damn time.

Streets of Rage 4 by Bombergames

This is the logical progression of the Sonic Mania model, as Bombergames made the great Strrets of Rage Remake fan game on PC.

Do they even own the Rez IP anymore, or does Mizuguchi just get to use it en gratis, like Suzuki and Shenmue?

I'd like a Jet Set Radio sequel, preferably in the style of the first. The Yakuza Team could probably make it since they have former Smilebit and they seem to know what the fuck they're doing. Binary Domain was an exemplary attempt at a first (or second, counting Dead Souls) attempt at a third-person shooter. No doubt they have the talent to do anything.

If anything that's the beginning of the end of SEGA as a software house: those are all SEGA ips licensed to and developed by external software houses with no input from SEGA, or a very minor one in Mania case.
In the future SEGA may become just an IP manager, with games developers by external teams.
