PUBG tops 7m sold copies and 600k concurrent users

I love how utterly obvious it is who's had zero experience with the game but has half-acknowledged words like "microtransactions" and "optimization" in a sentence about PUBG and is now projecting objectively untrue worst case scenario conclusions onto it in an attempt to shoot down its success. When consistent weekly patches full of optimizations that have practically doubled the framerate since week 1 + the addition of a bunch of useless cosmetics turns into "early access mess that'll never ever improve, and pay to win", you're convincing no one.

Let them be upset. 7,000,000 don't seem bothered, record player counts don't seem to be an issue

If people get mad they have to buy an outfit (there is nothing but clothes to buy) that almost no body will ever see (seriously, who notices outfits in this game), and with 1st person getting popular, YOU CANT SEE YOUR OWN CLOTHES, let them be mad.

I play the game in a white shirt, and gray pants, then get dressed as I find stuff..or I don't, who cares (apparently not many people)

Well deserved. Performance is pretty damn good other than some random hiccups. I get around 90-100 on ultra settings (I keep shadows on the lowest for obvious reasons)

I am a firm believer that this is why it's a massive success. Day Z would be a huge hit to this day if it didn't run at like 15 fps and lag like hell.

These types of games absolutely need to run smoothly and the rewards for having them run that way are now obvious.

You clearly haven't played DayZ recently. They rewrote the renderer and it runs much much much better now. The desync and player controller is still shit, but next patch is completely replacing the player controller which should help a lot.

The developers of DayZ refuse to scrap the entire engine and move over to something like Unreal Engine 4.

Uh that's pretty much what they've been doing? They replaced the renderer, they replaced the entire scripting engine, and they're about to replace the player controller.

No I haven't. You know why? Because a year after buying the game it still ran like ass with (by then) no signs of improvement to how the game runs despite having my PC upgraded heavily. So yeah, their complete snail pace at making their game actually enjoyable has put me off them for good. My point still completely stands.

Day 1 with PUBG was perfect for me.

Development is slow as fuck, I'll agree with you there.

Your original point was that is would be popular if it didn't perform like shit or desync. Don't move goalposts.

Eh? But it DID run like shit and desync? Did it not? That was my point.

And fair enough it had the early access tag but they had their chance imo and took far too long to get around to fixing it. I was hoping when I bought it that a few months or a year down the line it would run better but how long as it been now? I've even lost track. It's crazy.

Then I misunderstood your point, because performance and desync (which is not fixed but much better) are 1000x better than what was at launch and its still got pretty anemic player counts.

First impressions definitely did DayZ no favors and they'll probably never recover, but I still think it'll be fine when they finish ripping out all the legacy shit. At least some of the engine features will go into ARMA 4.

They realized far too late that the RV2.5 engine had to be completely dismantled for them to achieve what they wanted beyond just "DayZ mod 2.0"

Should be available on any server.

EDIT: just checked, it's only available on NA, EU, and AS :(

You're the best, by the way.

Game is a ton of fun and I was being a fool for not giving it enough credit just because I thought it was kind of janky.

The main difference (as I understand it) is in how people are forced to play. In 3rd person, you can comfortably hide behind the corner of a house or a wall and see someone running while they couldn't see you. The advantage goes to you, since you can see them but they can't (possibly) see you.

In first person servers, you can only see what your head sees so in order to see what's beyond a wall that's blocking your vision, you have to move away from said wall. So if you can see someone, they can also see you.

I think first person servers would be more fair whilst encouraging people to move around which keeps a faster pace. So I plan to play first person exclusively.

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. I'll try it a few times tonight.

First PC game I played in years. Its really good. My PC is kind of old but still runs pretty decent. Can't wait for the XBox One version.

I've watched a bit of it on Twitch, it looks pretty fun.

Going to wait til it's more feature complete/out of early access though.

I made that mistake with Rust already. Binge played it hard during Early Access, then all the cool stuff got added later. I was already burnt out on the game by then.

How are 7 million people allowed to be scammed by money grubbing knockoffs of games that aren't even fun? Shit seriously looks like a Chinese rip.

Like, loot creates in an early access game? Come on now. Someone needs to call the FCC or something because this is getting ridiculous.

EDIT: Oh wait didn't Bluehole get bought by Tencent?

I guess your idea of fun is different from those 7m people, most of whom seem to be enjoying the game?

It's been a blast for me. Had more fun and spread over MANY hours in a $30 game than I've had in most $60 AAA games.

PUBG is going supersonic

I think the core gameplay loop is mostly set. The additions are going to be things like new maps, weapons, cosmetics, some new animations, mantling.

But never a bad idea to wait!

Can't wait for the Xbone release. This game is a blast to watch others play on Mixer and Twitch.

It's pretty much become the only game my friends I stream on our Mixer channel anymore. Kind of sucks because there's so many people playing it, but hey whatever!

This is fucking amazing coming from a Star Citizen cheerleader. Well done.

The game needs a lot more work, I'm not denying that. It's still fun as fuck and plenty of people are enjoying the shit out of it as janky as it is and it will only improve.

agree with that for sure.

Its not for me unfortunately, but yeah the developers definitely look like theyre serious in wanting to support it properly.

I get console people not understanding the PC space, but a Star Citizen backer shitting on "early access steam games" is some next level shit.

Wow I just caught that.

That's actually amazing. Pro-Star Citizen but shitting on PUBG because "why would they improve it when its making them money hand over fist"? Goddamn dude, have you NO shame at all?

Jesus.

This thread has it all. Extreme salt, users getting called out for their post history, pay to win accusations, and The Doc.

All it needs now is some "PC Gaming is dying" and its transformation will be complete.

I won't lie, before getting into PUBG I also thought it was just another EA game that wouldn't last. BOY I was fucking wrong. The game definitely still has a plethora of jank, but it already pales in comparison to just a few months ago. The rate at which the game has been improving differentiates it from the typical EA shit pile. PUBG is for real.

They have plans for a rather different mode as well IIRC.

I'd kill for a 50 on 50 gametype

If PC gaming was alive, we wouldn't be celebrating the success of one game. Check, mate.

Would they really delay this game and crackdown into 2018?

I don't think it's up to MS when Bluehole is ready to start what ever Early Access is called on XBO. PC 1.0 got delayed by a month from their original goal and I imagine they want it out before doing XBO stuff.

Yeah, judging by how it runs now on PC (which is a lot better than launch), it still has a long way to go before running on a base XB1

I'm curious how it will run on the OG Xbox One as well. I have a GTX 860m and have been running it at 900p 100% scale on mostly low settings and getting about 30-40 FPS. Just got the game this week so can't really compare how it ran before, but I wonder if 900p on low settings with a locked 30 FPS is that far off from how it'll ultimately run on a regular Xbox One. I hope they can tune up the optimization a bit more though, since it'll mean a better performing game for those of us on lower end systems as well.

Of course, PC gaming is dying - that's why PUBG is being ported over to Xbone, that is the game's last hope for any kind of success! /s

In all seriousness, I'm pretty stoked that XBoners will have the chance to experience it. I have the feeling that KB+M players will wreck face against controller folks and there will be much salt.

PUBG is a paradigm shift in design and gameplay loop, and will be copied for a decade to come. Just like COD4, PUBG represents a tipping point for the genre and allows devs to reexamine how dopamine drip-like loops of gameplay can maintain a consistent player base. It'll hit 10mil before console, at least double by the end of 2018. Easy.

Yeh I've heard arguments that discount console games from PC fans. The main point was not paying mind to the idiots on either side.

You also, for some reason, chose to ignore the part where I said that people on consoles consider Dota and WoW to be games in general, not that every single person with a console holds that opinion in totality. Not quite sure how you could mistake that.

Where did you heard arguments about console games being discounted?

It was only a matter time. When I played Operation Flashpoint back in the day I thought that engine could be used to make millions. Now that the tech is there the day has come.

The fact that you are getting so upset about people stating things they've seen uttered by console fanboys and your "oh yeah, well I've seen PC GAF say......" really show that you're the one with the persecution complex.

Get over yourself.
I'm saying it's best to ignore the trolls on either side and look for the discussion. How is that a persecution complex, I'm just saying that trolls are on both sides of the fence so what's the point in engaging with them.

Aside from that all I've said in the thread is how great this game looks and how much I'm looking forward to playing it. Presumptive, aggressive and insulting posts like yours make the community around it less appealing though.

One person made a sweeping statement that "console gamers can't handle anything that's exclusive to PC" so I noted that PC gamers can be critical of console games as well, so what's the point getting flustered by it.

Not sure how you got me being "so upset" by telling someone to not get too upset over trolls intended to provoke that exact reaction.

Anyone know of any deals going on for this game?

There hasn't been many deals for the game since it's selling so well.
I don't know of any current deals but if you subscribe to the GreenManGaming newsletter watch that, they recently did a deal with an email coupon that brought the price down to $23 (which is what I bought it at).
