*UNMARKED SPOILERS ALL BOOKS* Game of Thrones |OT| - Season 7 - Sundays on HBO

the fact that there are stories of that lady other seducing the og night's king and that they somehow made a deal with craster for babies makes it seem like they can be reasoned with. wouldn't surprise me if the series ends with a truce of some kind.

i've watched a bunch of preston jacobs videos, and while many of his conclusions are wild as fuck, he does make one point that is very difficult to argue with, based on tons of gurm's work: being anti-war is his big thing, so it seems odd he would end his magnum opus with a giant battle between good and evil (or life and death).

GRRM is anti-war because the vast majority of all wars are completely foolish, useless, and a waste of life. A war against Death itself is not those things. If you ask GRRM if he thinks the allies should've entered WWII, he will say "of course they should have". There will be no truce with the Others.

Do the WW even have AA? Just burn them from orbit using the dragons.

My headcanon has the NK as like some kind of weather wizard who can command giant snowstorms when he wants. Add in some lightning ala Storm and he'd fuck a dragon up. He also has a few giants who could probably use their bows (weirwood bow and arrow????) like that 1 giant who sniped a guy way up top of the wall, and that thing still had enough power to lift the poor sap off of his feet meters into the air. I'd like to see Drogon arrogantly try to deflect those kind of arrows like he did in episode 4.

Was it ever explained how Melisandre(The Red Lady) ended up with Stannis in the first place? Ive been rewatching the entire show lately and just finished season 2. The first time we see Stannis she is already with him.

Really hoping Beric has some good stuff, and isn't just death fodder for this "Bad-Tyrion-Idea#6" plan. Found that character and actor choice to be great. Great voice, great look and he usually talks in death poetry lines. Unfortunate they kind of skipped using him for a couple seasons.

Yeah, the picture is from last week. The gold coins, helmets with that stupid drooping chainmail, melting pot (blacksmith) with submerged Deer Antlers and the hammer. Nice addition of the Wall in the background

I kind of wonder if she had a similar job that Thoros was given, to "push" Robert into the LoL crew. Maybe she was sent to another Baratheon brother. Wonder if there was some 3rd one sent to Renly. Maybe something to do with that slight Targaryen heritage?

On the show? I don't think so. The books says his wife started following that faith and Mel came to Stannis through her.

correct about everything
i don't remember, have we gotten any scenes with missandei expressing concern over grey worm? even just looking worried in the background?

I guess she had a vision that Stannis might be Azor Ahai so she just sort of arrived to Dragonstone

That makes alot more sense then. I assumed she had the prophecy/vision and started looking for Stannis, believing it was him at the time.

I think the show focuses on the wall fight too much right now to remember the Unsullied army. They are doomed to roam the continent forever...or until season 8.

Posted this in the other thread, but figured some people here would be interested....

HBO president Casey Bloys said that it'll either be 2018 or 2019 depending on when the writing is finished and what the production schedule looks like. Duckroll and I looked at the available info and previous schedules last night and the thinking is that Fall 2018 is the very earliest it'll air if they get going very soon. Otherwise it'll slip to 2019.
Following up on the S8 date speculation, Collider talked to NCW the other day:
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau said:
You get the scripts a month before we start shooting, or six weeks, and then you know what’s going to happen that season. But, I don’t know what’s going to happen next season. We go back in October, so maybe in the next few weeks, we’ll get the scripts and I’ll find out.
And their date guess is in line with what we were estimating before:
Collider said:
If filming begins in October and lasts for six months again, it won’t be wrapped until April 2018. And if post-production is the same length as it was for Season 7, that would put it on track for a September 2018 airdate.

Yeah, I'm not sure if there are any Emmy eligibility concerns in terms of when they air Westworld, but that should be ready by late Spring/early Summer.

Spring 2019 seems like the latest the final season will air but Thrones will do god ratings no matter when it airs. And with only 6 episodes the overall scheduling can get bumped about and GoT fit in for whenever it is going to be ready.

It seems we won't know the date until they are months into post production.

I think GoT is the one show that doesn't need to GAF about Sunday night football. Especially with HBO and HBO Now.

You're right, they won't care, its a premium network that doesn't depend on advertisers thus doesn't need the live audiences, but we won't be seeing 10m+ live audience ratings that we are seeing this year.

Rewatching last weeks episode, and I just can't get past how monumentally stupid it was for Danny to burn the Tarly's. She knows her father's history.

Burn them.

But at the same time, I doubt D&D will have it mean what it should.

Here's what I'm wondering. The burning of the Tarlys seemed to have scared the soldiers that weren't kneeling into kneeling immediately. They were fuckin scurred. Would beheadings have had the same result? Possible that soldiers would have kneeled when they see the Tarlys heads get lopped off, but if not...more soldiers were spared by the burning.

And it's not like she's burning people for the same reasons as the mad king. These are enemies that have fought her.

I have a feeling Bran is going to colossally fuck up the timeline. Using his Manhattan powers, he'll create divergent timelines, one's show and one book, and we'll see them unfold next season, culminating in the Mad King going haywire and starting the war.

That's sort of the point though, and it's what makes this particular stage in the story a murky, morally grey area
that will never be explored in any meaningful way by the show.
(not a real spoiler, btw)

  1. This is Daenerys Targaryen.
  2. She has dragons.
  3. She is now your Queen.
  4. Do not resist.
  5. Do not question.
  6. Do not fight.
  7. Any of the above will be met with death dragon fire.

I mean, Dany can't really help it. It just illustrates how fucked up the whole thing is and no matter what arguments you can make in her favour, a world in which people are burned alive for not following their Monarch is never a good place to live no matter how hard the Monarch insists it's "justified". Worse still when their justifications are simply "I am the Queen, it is my right to do these things to take back what is mine"

I lump the Tarly burnings into the same 'inconsistent and unnecessary drama' pile as the Sansa/Jon and Sansa/Arya conflicts. Unless the Tarly thing is just never talked about again going forward, that is, in which case it's just another case of them taking cleavers to plot threads that they didn't feel like actually resolving.

I hope Bran's role is deeper than exposition dump. Give me time-traveling chaos!

Yeah this is what I'm hoping for. I expect we'll see more because Hold the door was the introduction to this. There has to be another moment with bigger impact.

Absolutely not. I already thought the Hodor thing was a step in the wrong direction, and I've been pleased that that's been the only instance of time travel shenanigans affecting the present. We don't need that kind of convolution in this plot, and it would only serve to cheapen other aspects of the world/characters.

What do you want from Bran? I'd be happy if he finds importance through a means other then time-traveling shenanigans, but I'd be pretty disappointed if we followed him north of the Wall for years only to be an info dump.

Literally anything else would be better. Do we even know for sure what the Three Eyed Raven even is or what his role in the world is? I'm sure there can be a much more satisfying role for Bran that's tied to the world beyond the wall and the ultimate workings of this universe. I won't mind if his story purpose is just to give the readers/audience an explanation of the magic in the world, and it'd be way better than having him as some sort of prime mover who's directly responsible for key events in the past.

I honestly think Bran will be the one who had messed up the Mad King. Someone will have said to him,why don't you go back in time to have wildfire stored and ready and he did the same thing to the Mad King that happened to Hodor. Or the older three eyed raven would have done it and it is why he realized someone else has to take over as he messed up too much.

Again, nothing pissed me off more than the Jaime being saved at last second by Bronn and then wash up maybe 100 yards further in full plate. And how he can escape Dothraki on horses and a dragon, Tyrion no one goes looking. They assume he has survived and Bronn sets up a meeting etc. All reality is going out the window for contrived scenes set up solely for shock or dramatic effect. When I said it is Walking Dead level, walking dead ended up doing this too much. The governor despite being surrounded with no ammo by 100 walkers, survives and kidnaps Andrea right as she reaches the prison and the split second Rick looks at her spot to see her gone. I honestly don't think aside from CGI or stunt work or costumes or something that this writing will win any awards.

This is what happens when all you have is an outline of how the show ends. They're just trying to fill the rest in with blackjack and hookers.

I'm betting on it being a confirmation of r+l=j. Especially with the throw away reveal of the annulment.

There's so much cool stuff they could gave showed through bran and the old three eye'd raven :(

Do people think it's a real possibility that the books will never be finished? That is, that Martin can't finish them because he doesn't know how.
