The Killers - Wonderful Wonderful - September 22

I love The Man just as much. It was the definition of a grower for me though.

1st listen - ehh.....
5th listen - hey, this is kinda catchy
10th listen - what a great track!
15th listen - I GOT NEWS FOR YOU BABY, YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE MANNNNN

Oh yeah, The Man is definitely a grower, it took me a few listens as well to fully get into it.

Ratsky, where did you see that Run for Cover is from D&A?

Wikipedia, haha

While Run for Cover was originally intended for day and age , the song itself wasn't actually fully completed back then. Brandon Flowers only wrote the first verse. It's just that they loved that first part so much and couldn't match it. So they shelved it. It wasn't until recently where they actually came back to the song and finished it :) :)

Ah, that makes sense!

His newest solo album was INCREDIBLE! Can't Deny My Love, Still Want You, and Lonely Town are all incredible, and the the album has a few other really solid tracks as well.

If any Killers fans haven't listened to The Desired Effect yet, it's well worth your time.

Both of Flowers' solo albums are excellent. I still haven't gotten around to listening to Stoermer and Vannucci's solo/side projects yet though.

It's a little bit different from The Killers' trademark sound, and maybe leans more towards Flowers' solo inclinations. I think maybe that's why it's not hitting for some, or is a grower for others. Run For Cover on the other hand is the trademark Killers sound, so it gets accepted and digested quickly.

Both songs are awesome.
I must look like a damn idiot in my car whenever The Man is playing.

USDA CERTIFIED LEEAAAN!

The Man is the best car jam, especially at two lane red lights hahah.

And I agree with everyone's sentiments towards Brandon's solo work. The Desired Effect is incredible, his vocal performance on Between Me & You is nothing short of amazing. I really wish I would have gotten to see that tour live. I'd like to see The Killers in Philly next year but we'll see how that goes, January is always a super busy month for me and I'm sure those tickets aren't cheap.

Man, Run For Cover is a fucking jam. Been listening to it all day, and just now cranked in the car. That song moves. So good.

I saw them on the Day & Age tour years ago and they were amazing.

Hoping they come to Portland again on one of the legs of the new tour.

I love battleborn, I don't understand the hate :(
I enjoy it quite a bit as well. A Matter Of Time, Runaways, Miss Atomic Bomb, From Here On Out, and Prize Fighter (the bonus song from the deluxe edition) are all pretty good tracks.

Front to back not as strong as past releases but the highs are pretty high in my opinion.

If you watch the music video, it seems that was the intention.

Oh I understand the intention, but they actually say "USDA certified lean"!

Anyway, I haven't seen them live since Sam's Town, so it might be a good time to see them again if the other new songs are as catchy.

These 2 tunes are pretty damn good, even if some of The Man's lyrics still cause me involuntary eye rolling.

Flowers has said that it's a send up of how he was in 2004 when they started out. I don't know if anyone remembers but there was lots of false bravado from him back then and public beefs with other bands. He now says that came from a place of insecurity and that he's embarrassed of it. The Man is lampooning himself. And it's awesome.

Battle Born is really solid, it's unfortunately an above average album that followed up three back to back nearly perfect albums. "Flesh and Bone" can certainly hang with the rest of them as of one their most grandiose and 'epic' tracks.

"The Man" is fantastic, it's been far too long since they've released an album, can't wait myself. Just wished they would tour over hear again at something other than ACL :/

So pleased there's a new album coming, it's been far too long.

Seeing them live for a second time on November the 6th in Birmingham! Cannot wait.

I like the two tracks they released so far. Run for Cover is a banger. I'm a bit skeptical about the rest of the album though as the number of Battleborn tracks I liked was also two.

Just listened to Run for cover. Its a good song but the production values are a bit off.

The tempo is too fast, this neuters the impact of the slower parts that are rushed through missing the room to breathe. Its in the wrong time signature. It should be 6/8 rather then 4/4 to speed up the faster parts back to the current tempo after slowing the actual tempo to give the song more room to breath.

The other big issue is the Drums are too soft. The song is entitled Run for cover and its a classic killers rock anthem. It should be agressively bombastic. The audience should be so overwhelmed by the noise and energy of the song that they litterally want to run for cover from the assault on their senses.

I didn't enjoy their previous album so wonderful wonderful sounding killer album

I'm liking both tracks, although The Man still feels overproduced to me. And a little too repetitive. Wonder how well they'll be able to pull it off live. While listening to Run For Cover, I couldn't help but think that it deserves a better, bigger chorus. Still a good song though.

Cautiously optimistic for Wonderful Wonderful. I liked Battleborn, but it was uneven. The Desired Effect was fantastic though.

Saw these guys at the secret Glastonbury gig this summer. Ripped the place apart I've never seen anything like it. Can't wait to get my hands on this new album.

Killers were always sort of in-and-out of my ear when they were famous, my late Father absolutely loved them and would always play their CDs in the car.

I heard the new track 'The Man' without really knowing it was The Killers but immediately went to add it to my Apple Music (I knew the name of the song). Pretty good, will give the album a good listen when it drops.

To each their own, but I disagree, and I feel like the bolded parts are contradictory - the song is aggressively bombastic and does assault the senses, in large part due to the faster tempo. And the drum fill (and ensuing guitar lick) after the bridge when Flowers belts out "run for cover" is sublime.

On another note, I'm super pumped to hear the final track on the new album, with Mark Knopfler on guitar. I get excited thinking about him laying down guitar work on a Killers track.

I was also thinking yesterday that maybe it's time to film another live concert on this tour? I love Lie at Royal Albert Hall, and since then they have 2 more albums of material.

I'm with you. For me, Battleborn»Hot Fuss»Sam's Town»»»»»»»»»Day and Age»Sawdust

Flesh and Bone, Runaways, The Way It Was, Miss Atomic Bomb, Deadlines and Commitments, Battleborn and From Here On Out represent some of the best of the Killers' work. I hope in years to come it gets a reassessment and more love. Also the album cover looks real good in a frame (one of my favourites from the last few years).

Has anyone ever used Vivid Seats before? They have tickets to the upcoming North American tour for sale but the tickets aren't officially for sale yet. Any tips or experiences with using them?

It might be better live.

Personal oppinion and all that but "Run for cover" doesn't really compare with past killers tracks like "Mr Brightside" or When you were young" when it comes to energy. Its sort of caught between being a hard charging song like the afore mentioned songs and a Runaways style talking song with a few huge parts.

Here's Runaways.https://youtu.be/TMbyWSGYUgc
Note how well the song transitions between sections how it breaths and how it alows Flowers vocals to shift gears between moments.

Now here's Run For Cover.https://youtu.be/uC1vjuK4ODM

You can hear that the song is getting away from Flowers and he is hitting the beat behind the pocket and doing this makes every time he goes to a new bar feel rushed because he cant keep up with the song (because it has no space.) This rush is especially noticeable during section transitions (verse to chorus, chorus to bridge ect) where flowers vocal is constantly rushing through the pickup beat (where he should be breathing) because he starts his breath late and barely has enough time to take it which effects the richness and impact (punchiness) of the vocal.

In the past The Killers have used agressive guitar licks during transitions to give flowers a chance to catch his breath, but in Run for cover its the vocal that triggers the new section's build while having also sung the pickup beat.

See When You Were Young https://youtu.be/IdWZgTvf4t0

Changing to 6/8 would help here because 6/8 time feels faster then 4/4 time and it would allow for 2 beats of breath. Followed by 1 full pickup beat in place of trying to fit everything into 1 beat of a 4/4 bar. Although the song is rushed i can't quite work out if the tempo is too fast or two slow. Changing to 6/8 would require messing around with that a little.

Honestly I kind of like that breathless feel that Run For Cover has. I'm not too up on my music theory or anything but it adds something for, dunno.
