Giant Bomb |OT32| I've been meaning to love a boat

I don't get Jeff at times. Mario Rabbids adds new mechanics throughout the game. The enemies have new ways to evade your established team composition and abilities. So you have to rethink your strategy. That's good. What does Jeff even want other than that? Same enemies with better weapons so you die faster?

I bet he got stuck in one of the puzzles in world 3 and that's the reason he's so down on it now. "Overstays its welcome" lol.

Death, taxes, and Jeff finding an excuse to dislike a game he isn't good at. It's why PUBG won't win.

Jeff likes to find one good combo that works and use that for the rest of the game with minimal adjustments. He's stated this often.

One thing that bothers me with rabbits is having to buy new weapons all the time. I think it's great that i have to mix up my team often, but the game also hampers my ability to do so by introducing the same weapons with higher damage every 4 or so missions.

If one isn't into all the sliding puzzles it's easy to see how they could be tedious. I just wish they controlled better/quicker.

The puzzles in-between the battles sure are boring. No objection here. I just stumbled upon another mirror puzzle. What year is it? First Knack 2 now this.

But to fall off this game this quick makes me think that Jeff just got stuck at some point.

Remember how overwhelmed he was with Overcooked and called it a Mario Party mini game? I think that's what's at play here again or most of the time he doesn't like something.

But it's Jeff. If something is a tiny bit tedious he'll turn on it eventually. Unless it's an #oldgame. And his taste in games is super weird anyway.

This Monster Hunter minute crap is bumming me out. Especially after such a long time talking about Destiny 2. Just let Jason talk about a game he plays and likes for once. Jason has kinda disappeared anyway.

I am A-OK with less Jason. We joke about Jeff having easy to define tastes -- but Jason is just:
  • Fighting games
  • Anime bullshit
I don't care about either of those two categories, and have grown tired of Jason monotonously droing on about them. His schtick isn't funny, it's just sad.

Edit: I randomly skipped forward into the Bombcast to escape Destiny talk, and guess what! It's Jason droining on about a fighting game! Who could have guessed!

I wouldn't call it sad, but I agree that it's a bit of a drag. The only thing he does is groan and say "it's so coooool" and you can punch people and "it's so coooool man".

Oh well, I love them all.
except Rorie.

Jason is cool as fuck, so I don't mind.
Plus, he's been through some rough shit. Makes my life easy peachy.

Sure. Jason is obviously a cool, kick-ass dude -- just not a dude I wanna listen to on a weekly basis.

It's doesn't feel like Jason has a good rapport with anyone at West -- say what you will, he worked well with Dan and was better for it..m

I think that is part of it. The other duders make an attempt to introspect and explain their thoughts and opinions on a game -- Jason never seems to bother to try and explain his viewpoints to someone who is not balls deep into 'The FGC' or Weeaboo Quarterly. It makes listening to him frustrating.

So fighting games aren't worth taking about?

There is perhaps someone I'd like to listen talk about fighting games. Jason is not that person.

Any GB fighting game talk sounds like IRS agents geeking out over updated actuary tables. I don't understand, no attempt is made to include those outside the scene into the discussions, and its so boring.

I like hearing Jason's thoughts on games specifically because he plays stuff the rest of the crew doesn't (east and west). It's like when drew found a new simulator he liked.

He's been getting much better at articulating why he likes a specific game too.

I do miss Patrick and his far more diverse taste, seeing stuff like that weird 90s Blair Witch game was great and honestly why I fell in love with giant bomb in the first place with random pc game. Couldn't give less of a shit about pubg or so on

Edit: several pages ago lol.

I wish I heard the same Jason you do. He went a couple of minutes over his Monster Hunter Minute limit... And it turns out he likes Monster Hunter because it's Monster Hunter. An exciting discussion!

Because they didn't let him talk about it for long because they needed more time for Destiny I guess.

Stories is an interesting new Monster Hunter and I wanted to hear more from Jason.

I think Ill just listen to the Destiny spoilercast. Already heard multiple times the story is bad, so should I play it down the line I already don't care about that part.

I hope Brad reads this: This Jason minute gimmick sucks. Let the man talk because st least he plays something else.

Jason was never hired as an editor, and had to step up more as dan/drew/friends-of-the-site left, so I feel bad criticising, but they absolutely need to limit any thoughts from him to 60 seconds. He couldn't articulate his way out of a paper bag.

I disagree entirely. I love it when Jason gets to talk about games. At this point, I'd rather Brads thoughts on Destiny 2 were limited to 60 seconds because anytime someone else critcises it it's like "Yeah, but" or "That never bothered me".

I get it, it says Destiny on the box so why would anything ever bother you.

I feel this is more because Jason (and Rorie too) are getting self conscious about what they're talking about. They both get flak from online randos for one thing or another, and it's sad that they feel the need to cut themselves short. I think it was a week or two ago on a UPF where Rorie said something along the lines of "I'm going to stop talking now because this is probably really boring", and... it's just a shame. I think that this was when he was explaining some details about Path of Exile, something I was interested in learning more about (and I think in this instance, Ben told him to continue anyway).

He went a couple of minutes over his Monster Hunter Minute limit...

There's plenty of stuff in the podcasts that I don't care much about (Destiny 2, Dota 2, wrestling) but this is what the podcasts are, and even if I don't have a personal interest in this stuff, other people sure do. And heck, even during these conversations it's interesting learning about their thoughts and hearing fun anecdotes. Let's maybe not stomp our feet about a couple of minutes of Monster Hunter. I'd like to hear more about it, but we're never going to get that if people keep making a big deal out of every mention.

yup

also re: jeff's taste, I often feel like he'll take any opportunity to turn on a game. Like he WANTS to find one or two flaws and just keep hammering at them to justify why he won't spend more time on a game or something. It's very boring. He's always bringing up the same shit over and over.

I feel bad for Jason because he has the role of liking games they don't care about but also the role of the guy who can't really tell you why he likes something. So he's double as easy to jokingly (but also really) relegate to 60 seconds

Ok... fair points but here is a rebuttal...

1. Rorie: The thing is, Rorie doesn't have a filter, he just starts talking (usually about something he has no clue about) and states things as fact (usually is 99% of the time, completely wrong and the exact opposite of what the truth is)and keeps on talking and talking and talking, usually saying the same thing over and over again and apologizing for non-stop talking and probably being wrong... BUT DOESN'T STOP, he just keeps going. And usually re-states things that were just previously said not more than 30 seconds ago without knowing it was said, like he isn't paying attention to the conversation at all. I'm not a fan of Rorie at all, I honestly don't know why he is on so many UPFs and Bombcasts still.

2. Jason: I don't mind Jason at all, he seems like a cool dude, but man, his tastes are bland. Anime, Fighting Games and Monsterhunter. Thats Jason... period. The Monster Hunter thing is annoying because that game hasn't changed at all in the last thousand itterations (I feel like at least 7 new monster hunter games come out a year) It's a anime jrpg that you run around and fight things (like every other Jrpg ever created) It's just boring to hear "this one is a game changer" where nothing actually has changed and it's just some tiny change only die hard fans would notice. That's where I think most people have an issue with it.

Fighting Games: The issue I have with Jason and even Jeff to an extent is that when they talk about Fighting games, they don't really say all that much about it. I grew up going to Arcades in the late 80's and early 90's and played tons of SFII and Mortal Kombat. But when they did Ranking of FIghters and they just went through something like Marvel Super Heroes and didn't even explain the Gem system really at all, it bummed me out. I love that game, but never really understood the game mechanics behind the gems and stuff.

If they just spent time talking about the actual mechanics of the different games and didn't talk about them like everyone who is watching is a master level EVO player, Ranking of Fighters could actually be a good series. Teach people how to play well, and talk about what you are doing in a way that is informative. No one needs basic " This is how you jump, this is punch" but something halfway between beginner and "I've been playing this game and this game only for 20 years" type of mentality.

Side note, I hate the fact that every time they bring up Street Fighter 5, no one can say it's just a bad game. 20 mins of out awful it is and then "oh but the fighting is fun" and all is forgiven. It's the whole 2014 Destiny thing. They have nothing but bad things to say about it, but one tiny aspect "the shooting feels good" or "the fighting feels good" and it's on the Top 10. Seriously, if the majority of things you say about something is bad, then it's bad. Move on. You don't have to apologize for it over and over and over again even though it makes you miserable to play. "It can change" .... yeah, no it can't. It's a bad game, lets not kid ourselves.

Monster Hunter isn't that at all and Stories even is a different spin off with turn based battles and raising pets to fight alongside you.

Stories is the first one you could really call a JRPG.

Maybe if Jason talked more about Monster Hunter, people could learn what it is

If no one here agrees with you then just know that I feel you. I've been saying, jokingly but also quite seriously, that Rorie just doesn't belong on camera or on a podcast. He never brings anything of substance to the table except for WoW talk and usually no one even knows what he's even talking about half of the time. I still remember watching something on our living room tv once and my wife was just like, "Can't we just like tape a piece of paper where that guy [Rorie] is sitting so we don't have to see him?"

I've got nothing against the guy personally and I'm sure he's a lovely man, but man does it kill me when I see the thumbnail for the podcast and I see his visage on it. I just wanna skip it.

Bless Jason man, dude is the only production guy for the west studio, and is a family man. Can't imagine that would give anyone much time to do anything much less play a whole lot of games. Even if I don't care for the games he plays I still like to hear his take on what he's playing, that's kinda what the Bombcast is after all.

I see we're in a downturn again.

I admit I mostly put the bombcast on while I do something else these days

Isn't that all podcasts though?

The only podcast i acutally concentrate to listen to is Hardcore History.

The others is something is listen to on commute, while running or cleaning, ect.

Rorie makes giantbomb better when he is on, your dumb if you disagree

Woah, no need to get upset. It's a personality driven website... it's not okay for me to not like his personality? I have no issue people liking him. It's just something that annoys me. I don't hate the guy.
