Gaf, In your opinion is The Last Crusade better than Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
No, Crusade is just a pleasant rehash of Raiders with added Sean Connery.

Oooh. This should be divisive. Good topic, OP.

EDIT: ^^^^^ Wait, what I wrote is like what that guy wrote. Are we all absorbing a single unified writing style and vocabulary by excessively posting on this forum???????!!

Not even close. Quality goes in order.

Raiders is one of the greatest adventure flicks ever

Doom is a lot of fun, but the terrible supporting cast brings it down.

Crusade is a less entertaining rehash of Raiders

Crystal Skull is I don't even know.

I prefer Last Crusade because of Connery. Ford and Connery play extremely well off each other. Raiders might be a better assembled film but Last Crusade is a lot more fun. Also Last Crusade has probably the highest emotional highs of the trilogy.

No, but I do enjoy watching it more than Raiders. I acknowledge Raiders is the better movie but Last Crusade is my favorite.

It has Sean Connery in it, so maybe it's a little more watchable. Both good movies though. Easily the best Indy movies.

Imho, this is a difficult question to answer - just like i still can't decide whether "Empire" or "A New Hope" is better - the former has far more character development and is rather brilliantly made, the latter is a more well rounded journey that hits me way harder, emotionally. (and Jedi has the best space battle of all time, so ...)

Similarly, Raiders is certainly the "better" Adventure film, it's darker, but not as dark as Temple. Crusade is much more light-hearted.

I certainly enjoy Crusade more, simply because of the dynamic between our main (Henry Jones Jr. / Sr.) characters and the use of Marcus Brody as brilliant comic relief.

LC is my personal favourite, though it only really works because of the previous two films.

Temple of Doom has the best opening of all three though.

That's right: three

No, as it does retread Raiders in a lot of ways, but I really enjoy it. Raiders is really untouchable though. It's a perfect movie. Temple of Doom is a film I love too. The last half is a real rollercoaster.

Also Kingdom of The Crystal Skull exists and you're just going to accept it people, especially since I have no doubt if Indy 5 gets made, it's going to probably get a reference. Ha!

On a serious note... Has anyone watched Raiders of the Lost Ark recently? Last week I showed it to some guys that had never seen it before on an 84" screen with surround sound.

One of them fell asleep about halfway. The other one just kept saying, "Oh, I know that scene!" over and over again.

I guess no one can take away the fact Raiders of the Lost Ark is a landmark movie that inspired countless others as well as video games. I mean, the fact that one of them acknowledged all the scenes from the movie speaks volumes about its cinematic and cultural legacy.

But nostalgia aside, has it held up? I think that's debatable, and perhaps The Last Crusade holds up better these days simply by virtue of being a more recent movie.

It's been a really long time since I watched those movies but I remember that I always liked The Last Crusade more. Gonna buy the Blu-rays soon and rewatch them (I'll probably skip Crystal Skull).

In a lot of ways, it's a different sort of movie. It's more a buddy movie, it's more a comedy, and it's more of a blockbuster

Raiders of the Lost Ark had its funny moments, but it was more an action-adventure movie. And a fair chunk was literally ripped from a Charlton Heston movie
