Here you go Televisa/Fox News apologist. STRAIGHT FROM THE FREAKING MEXICAN MARINES!

  • All the kids in the building have been accounted for.
  • There might yet be a single person alive but its from the school staff.
  • Frida Sofia does not exist.

I say it once again, I no longer have the patience to listen to Mexican alt-right idiots on GAF. I am done, do not even attempt to call the Mexican Marines fake news.

Why are you so angry and personal? The ones arguing with you aren't even mexicans as far as I can tell, I know I'm not, so I don't really know who this anger of yours is supposed to be directed at

General of the Mexican marine corps just said there are definitely signs of life in the ruins, and that "Frida" never existed. Which again, we have known for 24 hours.

That's the point. Are you even following the conversion and you watched the video?

Does it make me an apologist to think somoene in between the chaos, being tired , the noise, who knows what else fucked up with bad info and it became a bad game of telephone.

The fact of the matter is that there's a chance someone alive in there is a huge thing. It being a different name or it being an adult instead of a kid doesn't make it less of a story.

The problem is the way televisa informs rumors or things that can not be 100% verified as news, as something that exists and then they construct all this story just to create a feel good moment and gain ratings.

I don't think people know how crazy and confusing things get during these sorts of disasters. They were given information and ran with it and it turns out that some info wasn't correct but the big picture(person in need of help) is still true. i don't know why y'all resorting to name calling to people who don't even reside in Mexico or know anything about Mexican media.

I could see this. They don't wait for the facts, push ahead with what seems like a good story, and end up getting certain details wrong.

That said, the people alleging a conspiracy that Televisa has made up this entire ordeal and made up this person in order to support the government....seems like people are creating their own fictions here.

Nope, the relationship between Televisa and the Mexico goverment is very VERY tight. In fact something like this happened in the 1985 earthquake but it was a boy called Monchito.

IMO, the difference is that one them is Mexican and know how scummy Televisa can be, and the other is not Mexican and doesn't understand how big of a deal the coverage of the disaster at that school was here (My Mom stayed up until very late because she was very worried there were SEVERAL people inside that school, most of them children -which was said live on TV yesterday at around midnight-).

The real good news is that they have located all people who were at the school when the earthquake happened. The real bad news is that there's a person still inside there.

The sad thing is, televisa in the past has done things like that, so is not just baseless speculation. Yeah, Mexicans, specially a part of the left likes to make everything a government / televisa conspiracy, but the way televisa informed of the situation and the fabrication they did gives fuel to the people that want to see everything about this a lie. The reality according to the the sub-secretary of the Mexican Marines, some kids were rescued, other sadly died, and all kids have been accounted for. A Frida Sofia kid never existed, it was just a televisa story. And maybe some adult is still trapped. That is all.

Edit: now televisa is saying it was someone from the federal level that informed them about a Frida Sofia kid, not them

He started out saying that televisa had invented the trapped girl. All I have to go on is MSNC reporting and now THEY are starting to walk back their earlier reporting. Like, literally this minute. The "name change" is feeding into the speculation, I suppose, but if she doesn't exist, they are definitely still trying to rescue "her." And the Marine general confirmed there is a living person in the rubble.

Televisa being irresponsible by pushing unconfirmed info the whole fucking day yesterday is true. But the government just made them look VERY BAD by releasing the info of the kid most likely not existing so the angle of them working alongside for the history doesn't hold up.

Televisa is "the voice" of the government, specially PRI. This is not like in the states where Fox news in the voice of the right-wing crew and such, regardless who are in power.

Everything they report servers their interests. That's way people are loosing their shit right now. This shit just exploded big time right here.

This is Video where a brigadier "confirms" that Frida Sofia Ledezma was "rescued" 14 hours ago. Aritegui is saying that those people were sent to spread false information about the rescue.

This was accounted for last night. Apparently this was a confusion over a different rescue effort https://twitter.com/jrisco/status/910738892550152192

This is what I was talking about this morning. Welcome to the club fellow "Peñabot" and "Televiso".

A lot of people don't understand what's really important. Now is time to help whichever way we can. In the future they will have plenty of time to attack and get angry against the president, the local government, the pri, televisa, tvazteca or whoever they want.

This. Not sure that speculation. Bad reporting. Or who did what is helping people in anyway. Would love to hear how these people are helping out in their community apart from unraveling the bad reporting for what it was.

People need help. This thread is to raise awareness to it so people can help however they can.

It was released from the Marines, not Peña. Peña would've let the story continue and maybe do some good publicity stunt (if he hasn't already).

Yeah, even in Mexican media is kinda hard to find continuous information about Morelos, most of the stuff is about CDMX and the Frida Sofia case.

Yes. Several times it's been pointed out that there are more ways to support in general all the zones that are in need. It's very important that we support in anyways we can all affected areas.

Yeah I'm trying to find news from the other states that were hit by the earthquake but can't find anything
I've seen plenty from YouTube videos of people showing off the damage there, to requests from people on Twitter on undergoing efforts to help and them asking for help. I'll see about digging those up and linking them here.

The shift this thread has taken is sad and stupid, please refrain from engaging in weird controversies that are meaningless right now and keep spreading the word on things that actually matter.

Speaking of which, if any Gaffer lives in South Texas or in the eastern Mexican border and is either a doctor, paramedic, nurse and alikes, Transpais (a Mexican bus company) will be offering free transportation to Jojutla, Morelos, one of the most affected areas that's barely getting any attention

I'm not sure if normal folk that wish to volunteer can head out as well, but I'll be sure to try and see if we are required too.

Edit :Anyway, my building just got the all clear. Met my neighbour and you'd swear he won the lotto. Great to see someone in good form.

I'm going to go stay on a hotel tonight anyway. Still no power, water, etc here. Can't wait for a shower.

To be honest while I have no doubt Televisa helps the government. I think it's a mistake to think of them as one. They are business partners. The mexican media as a whole (national and local media alike) make a ton of money thanks to the government. The government literally bribes the media with all the money they pay for their ads. All levels of government and media involved.

They will 'suggest' to the owners how they would like them to handle a story and such.
But to think of them as one is a mistake.

Like this whole Frida Sofia thing, the gov could have lied and protected the "credibility" (which Televisa doesn't really have, but some people still believe at face value thing from TV) of Televisa. Since after all, Televisa is "their" voice.

But they know that if the true got out it would be them (the gov) that would have been affected. And if anyone had to take the fall they have no issue letting Televisa burn to protect themselves from more backlash.

tl;dr.
Televisa and gov aren't the same thing. They are accomplices. Business partners. That would hurt the other if they get a benefit from it.

(This fact makes issues (corruption, etc) worse btw. You have two huge powers in play rather than one)

As far as I know there is an excess of volunteers and they are becoming a hidrance instead of a helping hand (at least in Mexico City). They only need the specialists at the moment.

We normal folks can help via donations, http://comoayudar.org. And if you're skeptic of the "televisa-approved channels" like a fellow gaffer in this same thread, the mexican red cross is always a pretty solid bet.

This is only true to Mexico City, correct, but there's desperate need for volunteers in Morelos and Oaxaca. No matter how much equipment or money we've been donating thus far, they're lacking manpower.

I'm still on the lookout for where are volunteers are needed the most and see if I can mobilize.

Sorry, I've completely missed this whole issue about a little girl being trapped in rubble. What was this all about?

Know plenty of people making an effort IN Mexico City to load up and bring supplies to Morelos. Tons of stuff that can be done. Raising awareness is also good.

There were some little kids trapped in rubble, the thing is televisa, the biggest media in Mexico, invented a "feel good story" about a little girl named Frida Sofia trapped in rubble, when she did not even existed. It was just a fabrication to gain ratings. Yes there were several kids trapped that were saved, others sadly died, but televisa created a story about a girl that did no existed, they said people had contact whit her, she contacted their parents via whats up and so on but all that was all a lie. People became mad about the lies, televisa started saying the fault was about bad information they got from Mexican marines, the situation is a mess that took attention from the real problems.

If anyone here wants an actual reason to be fuming, here's the latest and truly most disgusting thing I've seen our government do:

They are not letting supplies and rescuers/volunteers get to Morelos, they're moving all the goods to a warehouse controlled by them so they can stamp political propaganda from Morelos' piece of shit Governor and get the credit from the donations from all over the Country.

As for the second, I have no idea why they're not letting them in. It's fucking outrageous.

Here are some videos from people in the area

Wow.

There is absolutely no excuse for the government to prevent people from helping other people. Especially people that are well equipped and know what they are doing. Taking directly all of the supplies being sent is just despicable. Has any official come forward to clarify why this is happening? People really need all the supplies being sent.

All of this is unfortunate and reprehensible. Anything we can do to help with this?

Yes, the Gov claimed they are doing it in order to dosify the goods (denying that they are claiming credit), which would make sense if not for the fact that most of the small towns that got completely destroyed need the help ASAP and not over the course of the next few weeks. That's a whole different battle.

Most of the trucks that were going in from Mexico City already had very specific places to deliver the stuff that was needed and stashing it all in a warehouse will complicate things even more.

Not to mention, they might, and surely will not deliver all those goods because they're assholes to an extent that knows no end

As for what we can do from the distance, afraid that very little, most of the help we can send aside from money donations, is subject to being delivered by volunteers and could potentially end up there. Which is the thing that pisses me off the most.

If that's the case we should first try to confirm the information with more sources and then share it with every person you know. The people can overcome all these situations if is organized and well informed

There's a ton of video evidence being uploaded by the people at the scene, crystal clear what they're doing.

Right now it's a bit of an uncertainty what will happen since no more trucks will be moving until later in the morning, but I'm sure they'll pull through.

Regardless of this actions, the whole aura of this tragedy is that people are making things better in spite and not with the help of the government. Very sad and discouraging.

"Guys we had looters on our street last night resulting in a gunfight with the police. Anywhere in Roma/Condesa/Juarez with easy access to Doctores appears to be a hotspot. Stay in at night if you can for the next few nights."

From someone in one of my whatsapp groups.

My building had triple security on last night so they knew something was up.

Update after three days (sorry about some links being in spanish. Didn't find many english news sites):

The rescue efforts continued yesterday and today. Some powerful images

Volunteers in rescue/cleaning efforts - "What a moving moment. together we can do anything"
Soldiers and volunteers chant the national anthem after the last people reported was found in the rubble at Amsterdam street
A sucessful rescue on thursday

About the Frida Sofía debacle (Recap: at the collapsed school there were reports of a girl about 12, named Frida Sofía that was about to be rescued. After a day of full media coverage it was reported that there wasn't any girl and that all the details given ("she drank water", "she spoke with a teacher", "she moved her fingers") were false. There was a huge outcry on mexican social media against Televisa, the biggest media conglomerate in México.)

Yesterday the Marines apologized for giving false information based on "technical information and oral reports from civilian and marine rescuers". Now we have conspiracy theories that televisa forced the marines and federal government to take blame on their ill attemp to boost ratings. Rescue efforts still continue at this moment at the school.

There were also many reports on social media that the donations destined to Morelos (the state were the earthquake hit the hardest), were hijacked by the state government for political gain. The state government denied the accusations and said it was to better distribute the help over the following weeks, when it would also be needed. Motivated by a video on social media, about 25 people looted A DIF warehouse "so the donations couldn't be stolen by the government" Is unknown if the help was properly given to those in need or simply stolen. Morelos will have elections next year, so already the political fighting is getting in the way of the much needed help.

There are more than 3000 buildings damaged. A lot of help will be needed over the next months.

Televisa didn't invent shit. It was a marine and the volunteers doing the rescue took it as a hope driver. Televisa only reported and created a sob history about the tragedy like most media do.

I am really disgusted at people using this tragedy just to further their anti Televisa agenda.

Another earthquake was felt today in Oaxaca. 6.2

At least two deceased because of this new earthquake. Two senior ladys died of heart attacks in Mexico city when the seismic alarms were triggered this morning.

I live in front of a kindergarten so there's one of those speakers nearby that alert you an earthquake is coming... those are very loud. I am surprised of my own reaction to the alarm: didn't know I could get up as quickly as I did, I guess after two big earthquakes it is only natural that you react that way.
