[Somewhat] useful glitch alert:

If you're holding a candle, you can toggle to another row of your inventory and the light will remain where you were standing with the candle, despite not having used the candle. It disappears if you shuffle back to the inventory row the candle is in. Unsure if it remains while offscreen/leaving the area.

I did this at night while chopping trees near Marnie's house. Kinda interesting.

Also, re: Crackling Audio, I've found that turning down the in-game volumes alleviates it somewhat. Still annoying.

Asking again

So when the seeds become like a small plant you can't water them anymore ? I tried multiple times and no go. Soh whenn do we start to get the fruits ?

Also, the freaking crows keep eating my plants, and I have no option to build a scarecrow. WTF?

Also, how do I attach the bait to the rod ? I tried everything and no go. Is it because I have the first rod ?

The only time I haven't been able to water something was when it was ready to be harvested, though I haven't tried trees. What are you growing?

I believe you get the scarecrow recipe when you level up farming once so you probably just need to harvest more crops.

I don't think you can attach bait to the first rod. Once I purchased the second rod (fiberglass?) there was a slot for bait.

Anyone? It seems my baby chick isnt doing well and i have no idea how to feed it beside the silo thing which i also have no idea how to build or even put in it

There is a hay machine right next to the trough in the coop. Interact with it to pick it up then place it down. That or open the door to the coop at let them outside to find wild grass which makes them happier.

Ideally, you would have 18 fruit trees around the perimeter, 116 plants, and sprinklers to cover them. The best choice would be Ancient Fruit, which continually reproduce every 7 days (after first taking 28 days), and sell for 550/687/825 base price. Starfruit are also a great choice—they sell for 750/937/1125 base price, though they don't reproduce; you'll need to purchase new seeds to replant them, which takes time and cuts into profits. Other than those, I'd do something like strawberries.

I've posted this picture before but if you missed it:

did not know you could put trees in the perimeter

Ok, but I can't water or harvest. I think the one I can't water is the first seeds you get for free. How do you harvest ?

OK I found the door. Do I have to close it at night?

I couldn't find the hay machine. Only the thing that says to build a silo

As someone who has never played this game, going through this thread has been...interesting (and hilarious).

Just bought the game, let's see what the hype is about.

So how many of you guys are playing this game completely blind?

Interest in Stardew seems to have been refreshed since the Switch port landed and it inspired me to revisit my PC copy.

I know there's tons of Tips & Tricks. There's ways to min/max the first few seasons. There's a bazillion power-player game guides out there.

But I'm considering starting a fresh save and just...going with the flow. Just doing whatever strikes my fancy at that moment.

My problem with these kinds of management games is that I get analysis paralysis. I obsess so much over what I should be doing to maximize time v. profit, that I completely forget about simply having fun.

I think I'm gonna start a new game and just completely sandbox it. Just relax and let the game wash over me.

Oh, you don't have one? Yeah, build that asap then cut your grass with a scythe to fill it up. It automatically fills the machine in the coop when the silo has inventory.

Make sure you close the coop door at night after 6pm (they should go back inside by then) otherwise there is a chance to be attacked by an animal.

If you don't have the silo the hay won't show up inside the barn/coop. You will have to buy it from Marnie until you get your silo, at which point you can scythe grass outside for free hay.

Clint should have given you the blueprint early on. He shows up the following morning once you've collected some ore from the mines.

I don't know where the mines are. There is this cave next to my house but it was 1 room and tried using my pick axes but nothing happened

There's a cave far northeast. I don't know how long you've been playing but it should have unlocked on...week 2 of Spring. You should have received a letter stating that Joja cleared some rubble.

Summer drawing to a close, level 5 at least in every stat and got a fair amount of bank. Decent harvest coming up.

I'm first week of summer. I did receive that letter but I thought it was for the blocked railway.

I'll check again. Thanks!

So how do you drop items on switch? I've read you can trick quest like "find 5 coal" by dropping 5 and picking them up.

Change the controls in the options and drag the items out of the inventory using the cursor. It works the same way on PC but the devs didn't let you do it with their busted controller based controls. Got to switch to the cursor based controls.

Just started this game and I love it. I havnt done much reading on the game so I’m playing it without any real instruction. With that in mind, there is no “Game-over” is there? Like you can’t mess up so badly that you have to start over? I’m not seeing anything yet that gives me that impression.

I’m doing the same and I feel like I’m not being productive at all, but I don’t think it really matters. It’s a wonderful game

twice now I bought rare seeds, "planted" them, and they just vanished from my inventory without actually planting. I thought oh maybe it doesn't show anything at first so I watered the spot for 5 days each and nothing ever happened.

The small plants look 'the same' in three day increments. So for three days it will look like they aren't growing, then they advance to the next stage for a couple days, etc. Keep watering!

Bait took me forever to figure out. From the far left 'backpack' tab, pick up the bait with A, then hover over the fishing rod and press Y. It'll show up in the fishing pole description box in the lower left corner if done correctly.

Did you plant them on tilled soil during the fall season?

This has happened to me twice! Once with the ONE coffee bean I had, and then with some mixed seeds in Winter which I assume was my mess up. The coffee bean was in Fall.

They're fall only, and you pretty much need to plant them on the first day of fall since they take a long time to grow.

Coffee beans are a spring/summer crop.

Nice setup!

I suggest colour coding chests. All my tools are in a grey chest, seeds are in a green chest, fish stuff in a blue chest, monster parts in a black chest, etc etc :p

Wow. Didn't even dawn upon me how clean a neat and meticulous farm would look.

Mine is a disorganized clusterfuck of trees, rocks, wood, weeds, and then *some* crops that I'm actually growing.

I made an effort at the start of summer to organise it better. I knew I'd be getting quality sprinklers eventually so figured 3x3 would be a good pattern. I actually spend the evening of the last day ripping up the wood paths and replacing them with stone, then surrounding them with wood paths like how it is at the entrance to my house. Looks even neater now.

Not sure what I'll do for scarecrow placement, might just place them at the intersections of the grid.

I don't have a huge garden but I am getting to the point where watering (can) it takes about 50-60% of my energy. I know I can craft sprinklers but how do I get Bars? I assume I make them somewhere with Ore? And how do I reliably get Ore? I have only kind of come across them before randomly.

Well, you can make charcoal from logs with a Charcoal Kiln (foraging 4) but it takes time and a lot of wood.

I recommend trying to get to floor 40 or 60 in the mine and farming the dust sprites as they will drop coal frequently.

What should I do in the mine? Do we mean the cave thing near my property (on my property?) I walk in and it's an empty room...

This is actually incorrect according to the wiki and my personal experience.
If you close the door at night while an animal is outside and then go to bed then there is a chance the animal will be attacked.

The best way to do it IMO is to leave the door open all the time and when the report says its raining the next day, close the door once all the animals are inside to sleep. Then the next time its sunny, open the door up again first thing.
