I have read reasons why it was good he was not executed, and generally do not agree with taking lives as punishment, but in his case, as in a few others, I would make the exception. Nothing of value was ever gained from keeping him alive all this time, presumably at great cost while allowing him access to crazy groupies to drag out his cult standing and spread his influence even in the most benign ways.
