Since a bunch of old timers are in here, does anyone else remember those magazine type things that kids used to have (early-mid 80s?), where if you sold subscriptions you earned points, and on the back cover there would be a ton of toys and games that you could get by redeeming those points?? I'm pretty sure it was a monthly or weekly publication, and was probably circulated at schools (this was in the US).

I remember not giving a shit about selling subscriptions, and I couldn't tell you one thing that was inside those booklet things, but the back cover with all those toys is burned into my memory. I remember long car rides where I'd just look at that back cover for the whole trip, wishing I could have all those toys. I can't remember anything about the book, and can't find any pictures of it on the internet. :(

No clue what you're talking about. :p

lol weren't you suppose to bring one of your feet back, bend knee slightly, and break that way?

I was a fat kid and couldn't do it. lol

Too much:

Was it Captain Olympia or something? I remember those ads on the back cover of other magazines like Boy's Life and Muppet Magazine. And comics.

So, the McD.L.T. came in a Styrofoam box with two burger sized compartments. One half had the top bun, lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc and the other half contained the bottom bun, the burger patty and the cheese. So you opened it, slapped the sandwich together, and enjoyed a fresh burger where the hot stuff was still hot and the cold stuff was still cold! Then the world got uptight about the ozone layer, and McDonalds stopped using Styrofoam and axed the McD.L.T.

Here's George Costanza singing about it when he was still young with a full head of hair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTSdUOC8Kac
Oh man, that's awesome. What a simple idea to make something more enjoyable.

That commercial is a whole minute long.

Yeah, I should have read your post more - I also remember these ads all over the place. I think they were the same company as the ones I posted. It was the same concept: sell magazines, get toys.

Anyone remember Pinwheel on Nickelodeon?

Totally remember Pinwheel. Anyone here remember the little short on Nickelodeon that had a little cartoon man in this glass cup that slid all over the kitchen? It was all stop motion animation. He sang and danced as well. Always reminded me of my bitter old grandma for some reason...

Remember when some GI Joe guys drowned this guy in gallons of LSD resulting in a horribly disturbing mindfuck death?

Oh my god, this fires up synapses in my brain that haven't activated in well over 2 decades. We had this at the preschool I went to and I haven't seen it or thought of it since.

Yep. They showed shorts all the time.

They also showed Simon, as in "My name is SIMON and I love to do DRAW-RINGS".

They also showed a short about people who were actually hats with eyes and arms and legs and lived in a little town.

^^^ YEAH and that one!

Tell me if you remember this. Im not sure if it was on Caliope on USA or Pinwheel, but it were these animated shorts about insects and there was always a slow, gloomy organ that played the intro and ending music. Thats all I can remember, but its been bugging the hell out of me for years

sorry for the double.

I had that guy too. Until he started to melt. Weird rubber decomposing.

Yeap. It was nasty.

haha oh mannn... That bike/heli was a bitch to keep steady when it was transformed. I had quite a few MASK cars too.

I remember a burgundy truck with a front grill that was used as a weapon and with the chrome mufflers. I also remember a grey/blue truck that had a button that would take the whole front part to the back revealing something under the front. I will try to find images of those.

I'll never forget popping a roll of caps with a hammer on the sidewalk, my brother calling out to me as I was swinging down, and bashing my thumb something terrible. The blood stain was no joke, looked like a crime scene.

I'm not one to go mad on nostalgia and complain about these times but damn it's a shame toys have been forgotten.

Playing with action figures and making your own stories was so fucking fun. I guess COD isn't too bad....

This thread is making me wonder if x-entertainment.com still exists as a thing

Yup, same guy still doing it too. Shit, I realized I just got nostalgic about a website.

Ha, I never knew they have little parcels of mail. Those were lost way before had the ability to remember things.

I remember having the garage, but it's not around anymore. As for Main Street... yeah, that's in my closet at home along with more Fisher Price Little People stuff. Keeping it around for my kids (when they come along).
