Wouldn't the screens just look the same as if they were taken on the PSP anyways? It would be nice functionality, but as far as the game is concerned its rendering the same exactly amount of pixels and getting the same color values on either system. The magic comes from what the Vita does with the rendered image with additional filters and the damn sexy screen.
Yes and no - the Vita resolution is higher, so it's upscaling the games (it's obvious because I've seen those games on my PSP, on my Go, and they look upscaled). The bilinear filter looks great with text though, and it helps to remove the aliasing.
I still feel most 3D games look better on my Go, though. Persona 3 on the Go looks absolutely amazing, while on the Vita you can see the rough edges a lot better due to the scaling and the insane screen.
You can also enable the PSP color range, although I haven't seen a distinct difference, but maybe that was because of the games I was playing.
How does Valkyria Chronicles 2 hold up? I'd be stoked if it looked something like Gravity Rush.
It looks good, but like the other PSP games I've tried, it definitely looks like a "PSP" game. The colors are more vibrant, but you see the aliasing more, etc.
I'm happy I can play Peace Walker, though. It was unplayable on my Go. Same with Dissidia Duodecim - I'll actually rebuy it on PSN. I was planning on buying it on PSN for my Go, but the shit access to the L and R keys, which are necessary for the game, was shit. On the Vita though, it's not as big an issue.
So I have a few issues with the Vita now, but it's all mostly minor.
1- The d-pad is too close to the left analog stick. If I'm playing UMvC3, I hit the stick *all* the time while doing moves. QCF motions, for example, have a tendency to make me hit the stick and move it, which screws my execution
But seeing as I'll mostly be playing RPGs and such, it won't be a huge issue.
2- The d-pad and the buttons are too small. The d-pad is a bit bigger than the Go's d-pad, but the buttons are Go-sized, which is bad with my big hands, again. It's not an issue when playing RPGs and turn-based stuff, but for action-based games, it's a bit of a chore (again, I have big hands and big thumbs, so..). I miss my 1001's DS3 sized buttons.
I understand that all of this is a form factor issue, and that making the buttons bigger would've made the device bigger, though, so I can't complain *too* much.
3- Like I said earlier, you can't run the browser while playing a game. It's a very, VERY minor thing, though.
4- I'd like to be able to make folders in the interface. I get they were going for a smartphone-like interface that is easy to manipulate. That works, but I'd like to, for example, put all my PSP games in a folder and drop that folder on my main screen. Right now it's just a little bit weird - I have my first page set for the game that's inserted (I assume that's what it is, anyway), some system apps, settings and the store. My second page is my PSP games, and my third page is the shit I don't care about (maps, photos, etc). That's fully fixable in future firmware upgrades, though.
5- Charging via USB only when the console is turned off (not even on standby) is sucky. Probably a problem with power needed to make it run (the iPad 2 is the same way, but it works on standby).
