Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

You can't blame them, after all development of the title started long before the platform was announced. They are however looking into bringing the game to Mac.

Seriously I'm still fucking pissed about this.

Edit:
Is it wrong that I *kinda* want them to fall on their face due to their stupid excuse ? I wouldn't have minded something like "The direction we're taking with the franchise doesn't seem suited for Wii U" or something like that.

I don't find it wrong at all. It reeks of "cheesy bullshit excuse" stuff that we saw with the Wii.

We'd see games go to the HD twins.. and iPhones.

Yeah.

I'll exercise restraint and say.. no, I have no pity for certain companies.

harumph!

How much longer do you guys think the Wii will last? I think Reggie previously mentioned that the Wii U would coexist with the Wii. Maybe they'll continue the production of Wii's way into the Wii U's life cycle (and sell them super cheap, like $99) so that it can deter consumers from getting an Xbox 360 or PS3 if they don't like the expensive Wii U.

Not much if Nintendo doesn't release more games for it.
A price drop will help, but it's basically done for.
6 years, though.
Good fucking run for the little system.

Is there any information on what's going to happen with the storage for the Wii U? A hard drive, flash-based storage, or a flash-based storage + SD card? If there's not any real info, what do you think'll be most probable?

Anyways, reading this thread makes me too impatient for E3. I'm gonna play old Wii games to keep me hyped (and amused) until E3. Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 here I come. ;3

Yeah I expect a price drop to $100 around E3 and a few more "Nintendo Selects" and that's about it.

Flash + SD card + option to expand with USB HD

Best we can hope for is nintendo includes a decent SD card in addition with the flash memory of the system. 8GB onboard flash + 8GB SD card would be acceptable for me though a 16GB SD card would obviously be preferrable

There's still not confirmation, but Rosti seems pretty sure there will be one
since that's the end of Nintendo's fiscal year.

I don't think that's what Rosti was referring to. Some of us have been talking about getting info at the end of their fiscal year.

According to this Nintendo will have their FY earnings release on April 26th, so we should get info from the investors' Q&A the next day. I've mentioned before, but last year is when we found out that they would get outside help for Wii U's online, and that wasn't long after the Cafe leaks. So hopefully we'll get a few more tidbits on par or better than learning about NFC and confirmation of how Wii U accounts would work.

Order doesn't affect the product :p
the good thing is that we will likely hear something relatively soon
But I totally agree, more than anything, I want to know what's going on with the account system.
If they say something about the way they will handle WiiWare and VC games ON Wii U
I would be really happy :)

So.. today is the first day where I have realized the possibility of taking the Wii U pad out of my house and playing it away, like a portable.

I wonder what kind of internal memory the pad will have. And what kind of battery life.

This also brings-up another weird possibility: what if one of the last secrets is that Nintendo were to add a cartridge/disc slot to the controller, allowing a Wii U portable line of games? It'd be incredible - two systems in one!

Mark this post, just in case, against all odds, it comes true. :)

I like the backpack idea myself

but I don't really see Nintendo taking money away from 3DS to have WiiU carts

You'd need to add a whole lot more hardware into the controller than just a disc slot to make it play portable games.

It'd be another "third pillar" situation.. but 3DS would win.

Either that, or I could perhaps see each game coming with a portable version. In that regard, it wouldn't quite be competition for the 3DS..

Ahh.. that part slipped my mind. There went that idea..

Yes, it would be amazing. But it would be competing against Nintendo's own handheld.

That would be a big no no.

that is just overkill not 3rd Pillar :p

3DS Player on the WiiU console would be preferred

I'm trying to figure out what the final secret is, and the tablet being a portable of some sort has gripped my imagination something awful.

Being able to take a game with me to work to advance a bit (grinding in RPGs?), or to play side-quests or mini-games would be fantastic. But there doesn't seem to be an easy way without running into technological issues or cannibalizing issues. Damn.

fixed :p

The opposite, actually. They basically said it wouldn't hit the Wii U.

That's what CD said, but the final decision will be up to Square. Nixxes would be a perfect candidate to handle a Wii U port. They've done great ports of TRU on the PS3 and Deus Ex on the PC.

TR is one of those games that Nintendo should be seeking out to be on the Wii U. It has a lot of hype and it's a game that will likely be released after the Wii U is on the market. So there's a chance that early adopters of the console will go with it over the other versions of the game (I know I would). The Batman's and Ninja Gaiden's are great, but most of the people that want them will already own them by the time the Wii U is available. Nintendo needs to focus on making sure those big end of the year titles are on the system.

So.. you're thinking multiple, eh?

That would be astonishing. I mean, keeping one final feature secret is one thing, but more than one.. I dunno. Gaming industry folk are loose-lipped to the point where we'd know something.. right?

I'm pretty drunk again but I won't subject you all to the episode that happened last time I drunk posted in this thread.

That is all.
I remember that episode, and still think it to be pretty damn funny. :p

lol I was shitfaced that night, couldn't even type. This is not quite there but close.

so what's new in here? any new news?

Not really much new. I was gone all day (saw The Lion King, then went to a St Patty's pub celebration), but there seemed to be some more distress about the speculated lack of power for the Wii U. People fear that it will lack the peniswattage necessary for PS720 ports.

ah I see, nothing like having that discussion 8 million times ever. MON FAVOIRITE THE FRENCH SAY. MON FAVOURITEEE.

Yup.

There was also some stress regarding the idea that Nintendo platforms could somehow lose the flow of Sonic titles from Sega. Some even pondered the possibility of MS either moneyhatting the titles or outright buying Sega.

(Poppycock, I say.)

When we start discussing pretty much impossible stuff (I mean really, MS buying Sega???), I say we really have reached the bottom of the barrel.

This thread is dying slowly and painfully. I almost don't even have the motivation to post anymore.

Motivation Time:

The Wii U final design will be bigger, because they had to beef up the hardware radically. Nintendo didnt account for this when designing the original dummy. The final design will be different from the original. It will still be quite glossy. Also tessalation will be present on Wii U on a big scale.

My Two cents prediction. Let see if kotaku is bothered to check the spoiler tags

Didn't Reggie or Iwata or someone mention at an event that we shouldn't pay too much attention to the console aesthetic?

If Nintendo has had to beef-up the specs, and they decide for whatever reason to rename the console (legal issues? re-branding strategery?)... then your predicton seems spot-on.

Maybe we'll end-up surprised by a totally, like, tubular awesome radical 1990s-style console design? That could be considered a secret, right?

(and bring on the tesselation and anti-aliasing... please!)
