Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

What are those Daybreak pieces for in Light v Dark?

I'd like to see the difficulty and weapon ideas translated to a 2D Contra game (or better yet, Castlevania).

I think Castlevania would work with the betting aspect. Bet soul energy or something. I dunno what Konami's Contra reboot(?) entry on HD systems will be...but it has to top Binary Domain, Vanquish, Sin and Punishment 2, and Kid Icarus as far as "over the top, challenging shooting action with great bosses" goes.

Just got the game in the mail about a half an hour ago.
-I beat chapters 1 and 2. Wow!
-I have no issues with the controls whatsoever. Haven't changed them. I might crank up the sensitivity.
-The graphics are awesome. There hasn't been a Nintendo game of this scope since Super Mario Galaxy.
-The "so much content!" cries are exceedingly common and for good reason.
-I got Pit, Palutena, Medusa, Three-Headed Hewdrew, Insight Staff, and Mik.

If there is one major lesson I've learned so far with fusion, and thankfully you won't have this problem, is that FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T FUSE YOUR MAIN WEAPON without a backup plan that you have already tested in practice mode. I ended up essentially downgrading my Tiger Claws while pretty much nuking my entire supply of weapons just because I wanted to get a different variation with some sort of immobilization effect (petrification in this case).

On the subject, how good are the weapon pickups for multiplayer? Is it a good way to grind for them?

Most of my best weapons have come from multiplayer. I'm only playing single player mode anywhere between 5 and 7 though, so maybe it compares to level 8 or 9 drops. I'm not sure if it's linked to how well you're doing or whatever though.

Anyone having trouble connecting to Far Away Together? I can get to the mode selection (Free For All or Light VS Dark), but when I pick one it gets stuck and eventually tells me it can't find an access point.

General 3DS online features (friends list, eShop, Spotpass) work fine, as does Mario Kart 7. Anybody know what's up? :(

Just a few work shifts in the next few days, which KI will get me through.

It really strikes me just how absolutely all-out Nintendo went with this game. It's impossibly large in scope, comes with random stuff, has all kinds of ridiculous modes to sink into. It's the exact game the 3DS needs.

Boy. What a game.

I love reading though this thread. I can only hope I enjoy it as much as you guys did when I eventually get it.

Nintendo might just have created another system selling franchise out of the blue a la Pokemon.

I'd love to see behind-the-scenes footage of the voice actors doing their thing, especially the bits between Pit, Palutena and Thanatos in Chapter 7, or anything involving
Hades
, the best new Nintendo character in ages. The voice work in this game is superb.

I also hope that Part 2 of the Iwata Asks on Uprising, which is supposed to come out at some point after the game's release, goes in-depth about some of the plot points. I'd love to hear what Sakurai had in mind when designing many of these new characters. Simply fantastic stuff.

Oh, and
Hades
should totally be in the next Smash Bros. Amazing personality and design, a wealth of moveset material, huge relevance to Uprising's plot, and he'd be a very distinct character in the roster (
a mid- to heavy-weight magic user
). Just imagine his moves:
palm lasers, palm vacuum, leg lasers, cape-faces, shoulder spikes, chest drill, etc
, and maybe a Final Smash where
he swallows the other players and they have to deal with his twin rampaging hearts inside his body
. Man, the possibilities.

Did anyone ever think 3DS would be capable to display such graphics, in 3D, at such a framerate? Unbelievable.

The change of tone is also quite unusual in this chapter for a Nintendo game.

IT JUST KEEPS ON GIVING.

I don't own the game yet, but it seems like this one is screaming for a spoiler thread. Dozens of black bars on every page.. but I enjoy reading your opinions nonetheless, this really hypes me up! :)

Yes, if we must have a second Kid Icarus character in Super Smash Bros, forget Palutena, give me
Hades
.
Just have Palutena and Pit never shut up, problem solved.

Wait for it! There are more bumps up ahead of this awsome game road. Story-, Graphic-, Twist- and Funwise.

i'm close to the end and the just keeps on giving. Most creative game award since Killer7 goes to....

Edit:

waaaaait a second: sakurai....suda.....hmmmm.. They should meet up for the most awesome and fucked up game experience ever. *came*

What do you guys think are the easiest/best chapters to grind in? I've already got chapter 1 down to a science. (Also the transparency ability makes that boss really easy)

Here's my blade I use for online matches. This blade lets me get 4-6 kills each match.
cQu26.jpg

Really, really balanced blade that is good for anything.

Charged shots do 88dmg (charges very quickly)
Melee dash attack does 189

Only real downside being mobility, which I cover up with power-ups.
Sucks in single player though.

Awesome bit of dialogue in... Erm, are we still spoiler-tagging chapter numbers? Seems like no one else is, but whatever... Awesome bit of dialogue in Chapter
21
:

It's something to the effect of:

Dark Pit: "All who fight us, will die."
Pit: "And those who run away -- will still die."
Both: "Awwwwwwwww yeeeeeeeeeah!"

Don't see why there wouldn't be. I'm holding it back till July though.

Guess I'll wait as well. It sucks losing the coins, but I've been platinum since day one of this year, so I may as well wait.

It's nice being able to just scan the AR cards from the internet without actually having to buy them. If Nintendo figured out a way around this they could make bank from the cards. I've already scanned around 150 in, it's so tedious holding the DS up to the computer monitor, lol

The idol viewer is the only place where you can appreciate all the glory of
Poseidon
, whose 3D model doesn't appear in the main game as far as I can tell.

Welp, credits. Yeah, so...yeah. Wow.

Even with all the crap we have to deal with this gen, I still feel so, so spoiled. Games are just too good now. That's the only explanation. It has to be.

Massive control learning curve, but everything not to do with the controls is seriously top-notch Nintendo design.
To be honest, quite a few things go far beyond traditional Nintendo design. We can only hope Nintendo's future products are bursting with the kind of meticulous attention to detail found in every corner of Uprising.

are there any stylus haters for this game? I'm a pretty hard core stylus controls hater (metroid was blech). With that in mind, is this game actually a showcase for this control method? Anyone buy it and decide it sucks based of controls? Haven't kept up with the game but the overwhelmingly positive impressions are pretty impressive.
It's hard to hate the stylus in this game because everything was designed around it. It's possible to play without it, but your aiming may suffer.

Top tip for weapon fusing: Listen to this music while fusing.
Lmfao, it does feel like that, just with less frantic menu canceling.

Could be the lowest scored game on metacritic to win GOTY on gaf :)
More people would have to play it, unfortunately. I'm worried this game will get ignored. :(

are the spotpass weapon gems set in stone (so to speak) or delivered randomly? I got a viper blade 218, insight staff 264, and standard orbitars 191 on the first 3 days.
Must be random because those are completely different from the ones I got.

Super Guide to Weapon Fusion
That's incredibly helpful! I agree with everyone else who thinks it should be in the first post.

When playing against branny, 7 kills against branny. "god that shiny stuff is everywhere again aHhHHhgh" :p

A Special Message From Masahiro Sakurai

Hello Super Smash Bros. fans,This is Masahiro Sakurai, Director and Game Designer of Kid Icarus: Uprising. I am also the Director of the Super Smash Bros. series. The character Pit, who appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii, was the main character in Kid Icarus 25 years ago. In bringing him to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I designed him imagining, "if the series had continued and he had evolved with it over these long years, what kind of character would he be?"Link from The Legend of Zelda has appropriately changed and developed alongside the series, but in Pit's case, he needed to change in one big leap. You all know the kind of role he played in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It was through a very strange twist of fate that I came to create this new entry in the Kid Icarus series. I think being able to add your touch to a title of this nature is almost unprecedented. So, of course, I have made no compromises on content. It has a fun multiplayer mode that is brimming with variety, which it inherits from the Super Smash Bros. games. The weapons, powers, and stages combine to create different results every time. You never know what will happen. Please try to play it with six players. On top of that, it has a robust single-player mode. The theme of this mode is challenge, and it starts with the Fiend's Cauldron. It's not the kind of game that you play through once and are done with—you can play this mode many times, as often as you like. The story is also quite robust from a gaming perspective. I wrote the entire Japanese script myself, and it is rich with humor and plot shifts, which have been translated overseas by the staff at Nintendo of America. If you find it funny in your own tongue, it's because of the efforts of NOA's localization team.I hope you will enjoy Kid Icarus: Uprising.Sincerely,Masahiro Sakurai
