If religion was a woman, these types of ignorant posts would not be tolerated. GAF is a community where people should get along, but instead some are treated like second class citizens and discriminated against, and lampooned/ridiculed; people have feelings. It's outrageous

While I agree with you that it's really unecessary and goes against discussion first of all...sometimes the stories really do bring mockery upon themselves. I'm not a fan of rampant disrespectful atheism in the slightest, despite being an atheist, probably because I know and am close friends with quite a few sane, rational and yet devoted Christians - including my own wife.

And they themselves would mock some things similar to this...not this, though; not likely.

Hup! My bad.

It's okay.

Is this kind of stuff necessary? We get it, you hate religion and think we're stupid. Why try and completely derail threads by bringing in the same old crap every time? Oh look the "flying spaghetti monster" you're so witty.

/rant.

Good for the kid, hope he makes it.

i admire religion. some of my favorite thinkers are religious. i don't think you are stupid.

euler was of course a devout christian. just saying.

I know I was not trying to mock anyone in any way. I just wanted some discussion on the matter. I only called to how the pastor chose now to bring attention back to the cross.

I would say the same shit about an Atheist if he was trying to raise awareness for Atheism.

I just think public acts such as this to try and convince people what to believe is a bit over the top. People need to make their own minds up on what they want to believe. If someone is weak enough to be converted to Christianity just by what this guy is doing, I feel sorry for them.

What a tremendous amount of effort that could be used to ease real suffering of real human beings in the world.

If people were making blanket statements about all Christians, then you might have a point.

Since it's one silly man carrying a piece of wood in a big self-righteous publicity stunt, we're allowed to say how silly we think it is. Surely there are tons of Christians who think it's just as silly.

Agreed. I mean good luck to the kid to complete his personal goal, but I agree about the conversion point. People who do that will just fall away the next week when the next "interesting" thing comes along.

The Church of JC is still open to you, PD.

Except religion is a choice, and women don't go out of their way to push being a woman on people. I'm not a Christian and I don't have a problem with Christianity or any other religion, but I think its follows to demand equal protection for religion and sex when one of the central tenets of the religion itself is conversion. I'm not saying that outright denigration of their religion is okay, but I simply don't think its the same thing, like at all.

"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven...And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen."

Etc.

I'm Christian, and this is a dumb stunt.

Here's what I always pondered about Christianity. The cross is a major symbol in the religion, symbolizing Jesus' brutal sacrifice. But what if he died a different way? What if he was boiled alive? Would a boiling pot be the main symbol for Christianity? Would people wear necklaces with cauldrons on them? Or what if he was decapitated? Would Christians wear something that symbolizes a decapitated head?

Wow, we're all talking about Christianity and many of us are being straight respectful.

The kid's work is done, give him a bus ticket home.

It actually bothers me that some people seem to almost worship the cross, when in fact God clearly stated to not worship idols, when in fact the cross fits the perfect example of being an idol. I always just assumed it got validated parking because it was smeared with Christ's blood, which is a part of him and he's God, so the cross is God by default.

One of my best friends is catholic and always bring up the persecution complex. I mean it's not like I'm against people believing shit, I'm against those beliefs influencing things such as equal rights and sex education. For the most part, I think that insitutions such as the catholic church and many evangelical groups are immoral. It's not blind persecution, it is fact.

i think we do well to shit down these threads. they don't do anything for anyone. a bunch of fucktards carry a giant stick to washington. the symbolism overwhelms me.

I blame Forest Gump. On a serious note, more power to the dude and at least he has a “cause” but it's fucking annoying.
This is not a new concept and it's rampant. I don't know why people using an outmoded form of transportation with their chosen gimmick should be profound. Walking/biking/carrying a cross across the country is not new. There's probably 15 other people doing this exact same thing right now. It's very attention whorish. And did I say it's annoying? I have had cross dudes, guys on horses, guys on a Huffy, guys with Moses' walking sticks doing these cross country stuff. Just stop. It's not innovative any more. If you want to bring America back to the “cross” open a soup kitchen for the homeless or something. Don't be attention whore No. 236 that's walking through my town. No one cares and it's a waste of your human resources.

I don't get it. I mean, unless this is strictly an attention grabbing thing (I don't mean that derisively). If that's all that is, it seems like a LOT of work for probably 15minutes in the spotlight, at best. Aren't there other fund raising avenues?

If religion was a woman,

I laughed. Let's go further into lala land:

If the bible/quran were a GAF poster (still laughing...) it would be promptly banned for all its blatant sexism, among other things.

Not to mention it's for something completely insignificant. I mean A car for A missionary? Couldn't all this effort be done towards something worth a shit?

I vote this thread title be changed. He hasn't DONE anything yet, he just started. When he MAKES IT we can celebrate, guys.

Wow such intolerance on NeoGAF offtopic! ... wait, I'm not surprised by that at all :/

Tolerance does not rhyme well with off-topic Neogaf, especially when it has to do with religion.

On Topic: While i don't get why anyone will do this, am not in any position to mock him. Hope he makes it to his destination without any major problems.
