I'd say Wii had way better 1st party games it's last 3 years than it's first 3. Galaxy 2, NSMBWii, Skyward Sword, DKCR, Xenoblade, S&P2, both Kirbys, Last Story... it's no contest imo.
People here who want a Wii U are getting it because of the software.
If hardware is your basis by which you judge, then I'm sorry that Nintendo doesn't fit your bill. But like others have told you: You're missing out.
What software do people consider to be the must haves then? I've taken a look at it and there is very little there I'd genuinely want to play, even if it were on PS3/360/PC.
My basis is hardware + Software. Nintendo's hardware is weak and the subsequently suffer in the software department.
Sony, in contrast, put out strong hardware and supported it with lots and lots of great games. 3rd parties did the same.

These threads are absolute poison.
I see the way Nintendo and Sony approach consoles like different genres of music and album sales. Nintendo put their 'singles' at the beginning of the album, take your money and drop that album like a hot brick. Sony tend to spread their multiple good songs out in some sort of massive anthology. Always something to explore and is very varied. Recently they've done a lot of 'me too' moves though, like LBP karting and PSAS:BR, which reeks of 'we have radio friendly unit shifters too!'.
The Nintendo trap for me is:
'WOW NEW CONSOLE, WE HAVE LOTS OF THIRD PARTY SUPPORT COMING! LOOK AT OUR AMAZING GAMES.'
*3rd party support drops away*
'FUCK, RELEASE THE NEW CONSOLE!'
'WOW NEW CONSOLE, WE HAVE LOTS OF THIRD PARTY SUPPORT COMING! LOOK AT OUR AMAZING GAMES.'
Decent hardware you say? Not only was the Wii underpowered, the Wii U will be underpowered, the 3DS is underpowered etc. . .all of them feel like fisher price toys in terms of build quality when compared to the competition.
I want to really like Nintendo, I do. Gaming focused company and all that jazz, but damn, their hardware absolutely sucks.
I'll PM you it. I don't want to turn this thread into a list war.
If you're so enamored by Sony, and nothing Nintendo offers interests you, why are you in this thread?
To express how much you don't care?
It will only get worse, I'm afraid.
I'm in here because developers saying 'Wii U is more powerful than PS3 & 360" like that is impressive is pretty damn embarrassing.

The BUNDLED IN touch screen controller is the gimmick which is where people get off calling it a gimmicky controller. The one without the touch screen, that's the optional one.
Because Nintendo games haven't appealed to me since the Gamecube days. And multiplatform titles are going to look better on the new MS and Sony consoles anyway.
It's like Galvanise doesn't remember the first 2 years of the PS3...
No, it's not a "gimmicky controller" because it's the same dual analog pad that's everywhere else with the same sticks and buttons. It just has an (optional-to-use) touch screen in the middle.
people have short memories as it is
we go through
nintendo announces system-> nintendo is doomed-> nintendo releases system makes mucho money-> people forget
repeat
I don't see why the shades of grey in this discussion even matter, especially when the competition will be on a completely different level. If it's close enough to the 360/PS3 for this discussion to be entertained, for all practical purposes this conversation seems totally pointless. Games aren't going to look leaps and bounds better, but there will be some improvements here and there, whereas the next Xbox and Playstation will exist in a whole other world. I don't see why this is so controversial.

Most people never said it was impressive. The only reason developers have to is because trolls/misinformed people claiming to be anonymous developers put it out there that it was somehow weaker and some people fell for it hook line and sinker.
This didn't really apply to the Gamecube or 3DS yet.
Because people are looking for new experiences. Last gen experiences have already been experienced.
What makes you think the next xbox and playstation will be much better than today's? I thnk, in my opinion, Wii U will be in the same ballpark as the Xbox3 and ps4. Did many people refuse to buy ps2 games because there were better versions on the Gamecube and Xbox?
With so much skepticism as to how powerful the system really is why doesn't nintendo just detail the specs?sure they'll most likely look poor when compared to ps4/nextbox but the gap won't be nearly as big as the wii-ps3 was......
All the leaks we've gotten so far say there would be a signficant gap between this gen and the PS4/720. I disagree with Rez that there will never be a Wii U game that looks signficantly better than the current gen though.
They did that with the Gamecube and people claimed, based on polygon counts, that "PS2 blew it out of the water." It was all over the mainstream press and hurt Gamecube's reputation.
What do you mean by that? Your post is confusing.
The gamecube and the xbox were pretty big leaps over the ps2 weren't they? Not really, if anything the latest spec leak from here says its going to be ps2, xbox, gamecube spec wise all over again

You will get all those things on the Nintendo Wii U. Trust me.No, but better physics, AI, more objects and NPCs on screen at once, larger environments with larger draw distances, large-scale multiplayer games with huge player counts, etc. are things that offer bigger and better experiences.
...
They don't want it to be embarrassed by how weak it is!It's not in Nintendo's best interest to reveal the Wii U's full specifications. It's a simple as that.

How much Wii Sports, Mario Galaxy, and Xenoblade have you played? Not knocking your taste, but those games are better than anything I have played on PS3.
nintendo announces system-> nintendo is doomed-> nintendo releases system makes mucho money-> people forget
I've played a lot of Wii Sports in party settings etc. I don't rate it as a good game. More a time filler.
Don't like Mario games, despite having tried a lot of them.
Didn't like Xenoblade, even though I thought I would. I love RPG's, but it didn't click. Same with The Last Story. I can't be too harsh on Xenoblade though, most RPG's that I have played on consoles in recent years have left me feeling cold.
To be fair though, I don't think anyone is arguing that Nintendo won't be financially successful, rather that the decisions Nintendo make aren't appealing to them personally. And although you can point to the success of the Wii as proof that these decisions were the correct ones, there's just as many people who look at the Wii and its range of software as evidence that the Wii U will have nothing to offer them.

easy
as an rpg man here are 10 must have rpgs
pandoras tower, xenoblade, last story, super paper mario, fire emblem 10, dragon quest X, arc fantasia, monster hunter, muramasa,Rune Factory: Frontier

As an RPG man myself, I purchased the Wii specifically for those games, but having played many of the titles now on your list, I would say that they are far from must haves. (Still haven't played Last Story though.. so maybe that will change my mind) Ultimately, I have been disappointed in my Wii purchase - I think that one console owning Wii fans have been starved into thinking that some of these are elite titles.
Tough to say what will happen with the new playstation and xbox but I am concerned with the rumors that the Wii U CPU is weaker than the PS3/360. Sure the GPU might be stronger but prettier graphics with smaller experiences doesn't sound that interesting to me when the 720 and PS4 are just around the corner.
The fact that we're all arguing about this shows that Nintendo did not do enough to make it clearly superior to "current" (7 year old) consoles.
They'll be overtaken easily by MS and Sony's next generation hardware, and that will make the disparity even more apparent.
Someone a few pages back said wait for a first party title built from the ground up.
Isn't Pikmin 3 and NSMB Wii U just that?
Yea fuck their trap!
Offering me games I would like to play, on a console with decent hardware, no less!
The fucking nerve!

Some people said NSMB Wii U looks like Dolphined NSMB Wii and Pikmin has been rumored as a Wii game ages ago. For all we know both these games could have been up-ported from an original Wii project.

You really like to defend Nintendo hard don't you. I know what he means by Nintendo trap and I'm sure you do to. It's been the same since the gamecube, the promise of better 3rd party support, a promise that is never fulfilled, I, and I'm sure many others got burned hard on the gamecube, when it came to 3rd party support.
I ended up buying a ps2 (thanks for making me do that Nintendo), and never looked back. Some of us just need more than the next (Mario/Zelda/Metroid). And you know what, I can't even justify buying a Nintendo system just for nintendo games, because while I like and can enjoy mario, and metroid, I have never liked zelda or pikmin. So what's left for me to play?
I'm not the kind to go buy every system out there, I don't have the time to play them all, so when I buy, I get the one that will offer me the most for my money. So far that has been Sony systems. Lots of exclusives and great 3rd party support.
Through out it all, I have always had a good PC. I just perfer my gaming on consoles. I haven't fallen for the Nintendo trap since the gamecube.
I don't get this kind of threads...
I just don't find any fun in trying to convince other people that their tastes in videogames are "wrong".
It's pointless, boring, tiresome and time consuming.
