Maybe Nintendo Land

No

No!

No No No!

There will be NO price announced for Europe, get that in your heads before it happens, people!

It will be "price will be set by retailers" again! This is how it works now! Spare yourself the disappointment.

My mistake, maybe "suggested price" is better.

Yep.

There are also concerns from some third parties over there being Mario at launch. While it drives hardware sales, it is the presumed 1.0 software tie ratio lock for the system. I recall someone saying that it's so default it might as well be packed in.

One reason third parties are being tepid at launch is because nothing but Mario is going to sell for a few months, anyway. But Nintendo is screwed because they can't not launch the system with NSMBU, especially at this point.

A workaround would be a combination of bundles including major third-party titles, emphasis on digital distribution with special prices during the window launch ("ok, you got your Nintendoland and Mario, but you're forced to take a look at our eShop once you connect your Wii U, and see this awesome offer for ZombiU !"), and other leverages. They must be clever and voluntary in the promotion of other games than theirs, especially for exclusives, it would be so bad that the main bulk of customers only acquire Mario.

is it just me or do these shapes have hard corners? Really odd, I know, but you'd think nintendo would go with round corners...and it bugs me.

That actually makes a lot of sense in a weird way. Had Nintendo announced some great OS features at E3, sony and microsoft would have had time to whip up something similar to it (a copy if you will ;-)) in time for the launch window.

Since Sony and Microsoft probably probably won't launch for at least 12 months after the Wii U launches they will plenty of time to copy any OS features anyway.

Well... if anything, every Wii U owners will at least give it a try.

If it's not packed in, i bet a lot of people on GAF, or "hardcore gamers" in general, will ignore it.

I still think a partial pack-in is possible. Get a few of the attractions stored on the Wii U's flash, with the option to buy the rest in the eShop or at retail.

This is a reasonable happy medium IMO.

A new tidbit: there were concerns amongst third-parties that would release "casual"/family games that customers would not be enticed to purchase their titles if the first-party flagship of this kind of software will be packed-in.

A double edged-sword, it could demonstrate the Wii U capabilities and drive the sales à la Wii Sports, but also push a huge part of early adopters to say "ok we already have a game with the system, we won't acquire another for weeks/months" and not buy anything more.

So it seems Nintendoland packed-in was a sure thing a few months ago, but at the very least it raised some questions from third-parties.

I hope they understand that Nintendo tried launching a system without including a game or a Mario game at or near launch. Third parties were given a clear field to take advantage of and they blew it. Theory tested and damage done.

I think third parties wouldn't have anything to worry about if they didn't release and then forget their own games. If they kept talking about them, pushing them after release in some manner they'd do better. Do they think Nintendo is going to suddenly after release act like NSMBU or Nintendo Land don't exist and then focus completely on the next game? No. The will have to stop making excuses for their own lack of action. Perhaps if they try to actively push and sell their game they wouldn't have these concerns instead of expecting the sales to just come to them.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I believe you, but this shows how dumbass are Third parties: they put nothing really impressive on 3DS at launch because there was no Nintendo title strong enough to assure sgood sales debut for the console, and we have several official sentences about that.

No, Nintendo is trying to "lock" a good debut with a possible "demo" bundled and a strong IP, and third parties are afraid.

Truth is: third party has no clue and interest in being strong on Nintendo HWs.

3DS shows me that when they want...but only now, and certainly not at launch. The usual :p

Agreed. They need to make compelling gaming offers and not wait for a Nintendo-less environment in order to sell their year-late ports.

I would buy Aliens:CM and Rayman over NSMBU any day.

The hype created by all the initial unveiling is (in their reasoning) why they over-priced the 3DS. People weren't just excited for the system but for Kid Icarus, Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts, Paper Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing and so on. By only giving us titles from launch/launch window they can more accurately gauge interest and set a more reasonable price.

That means a Wii U will come free with every box of Corn Flakes.

All i know is that if I'm going to buy 2 games at launch, it sure isn't going to be a mini-games collection. I'd rather buy something like Mario/Zombi U, Mario/AC3 or Mario/Rayman.

Indeed. But it will be announced at the US conference. Just replace the term "dollar" by "euro" when you hear it.

No price at all would be better. No word in Euro price other than "check with your retailer of choice" which means amazon & friends will have final prices about 24h later (or a little earlier).

Point is, if you're not interested in the current software line-up, great. Don't buy a Wii U at launch. It seems to be what Nintendo wants you to do - wait. Wait until there's games you want to play like a rational person. It's not like you have to buy it at launch, or that launch software should instantly appeal to you, individually because you want to buy the hardware.

Why would Nintendo want anyone to wait? I cannot think of a single good reason they would not want anyone to buy a Wii U as soon as it is available, but I can think of several reasons why they would want everyone to buy one as soon as possible, including:
1) They want more hardware sales, the sooner the better (therefore more revenue sooner), and if you wait long enough the console price will eventually drop (so Nintendo would have a reduced total revenue over the life of the console, as well as revenue later).
2) If you have the console they have the chance to sell you more games (not just the games(s) you really really want, but also impulse buys, etc, ie greater revenue).
3) If your friends/relatives see you playing on the Wii U they may decide to get one (ie increased hardware and software sales).
