Well, with BioWare shitting the bed and squandering their fantasy RPG franchise with Dragon Age, I'm totally down with Obsidian making their own fantasy RPG IP to pick up the slack.
I didn't have any problems with it until well into the 3rd expansion, it was around that time my save file got to a size that caused slowdowns like what used to happen with Skyrim pre-patch. If you play the game without playing all the expansions it will probably run fine. Shame that never got fixed though.
you serious on that?
WHY DONT DAYS MOVE FASTER
Honestly, though, why COULDN'T it be another Arcanum? Nobody really owns the name any longer, right?

Activision. So good luck with that.
Let's all love each other, for something wonderful is about to dawn on us.
I got in contact with Tim Cain just to tell him how much I adored Arcanum, and the things I'd do for a new game in that universe. He told me Activision Blizzard likely own the IP, and don't seem to have any intention of using it, let alone acknowledge they even have it.
True story.

Activision renewed their trademark last January. You can look forward to them neglecting the IP for many years to come.

Odd though, for Obsidian to market something like a Kickstarter on their own website, at least, to this level of mystery, complete with a countdown timer.
I guess I've always just associated that kind of marketing with more...big budget titles, stuff that's already planned out and in production, rather than something like Kickstarter, which is generally building stuff from the concept/idea stage.
Although, this is certainly getting the hype/word spread, so it's certainly possible it's for a possible Planescape sequel or a new IP.
Christ, this effing week.
Tomorrow is new iPhone announcement day.
Followed by (hopefully) Wii U launch information announcement day.
Now, followed by New Obsidian Project That Is Probably A Kickstarter That Will Cost Me Lots Of Money announcement day.
feels like a lot for an unassuming mid-September week.
Just curious though how do we know this will be a kickstarter and not a published game announcement?
The best arguments would be:
1.) It's being advertised by Obsidian directly instead of by a publisher.
2.) Their forum description doesn't exactly sound like someone else's project given that usually their published products have actual codenames.
I'm really scared of another kickstarter and how it could backfire.
I just hope there isn't some kind of fatigue regarding the platform.
I feel it depends on:
1.) How much they ask for.
2.) How much they show when they ask.
Planetary Annihilation had solid success as a recent example, but they also had an impressive visualization demo.
If Obsidian's kickstarter asks for $5 million and presents some concept art, it probably isn't going anywhere.
If they present a prototype and ask for $1 million, they will probably have a lot more luck.

If it is a Kickstarter it's likely they'll have quite a bit to show and talk about. Perhaps not some full trailer demo just yet (though it seems entirely possible), but at the very least much more of a solid, concrete idea to convey as far as exactly what the game would be than we've seen from the other big Kickstarters, which have all been fairly nebulous to some degree.
From twitter just now:
Given that the teaser is on their own website, and kickstarters require videos, this seems very suggestive.
Betting its Dungeon Siege 4 as well. Would love them to do Fallout 4, but that ain't happening.
