THESE ASTRONAUT "GRUNT" AVATARS ARE MAKING ME SAD!

God, I hate that thing. It has the exact same shape, proportions, even pose as some Super Hero Squad abomination.

To be fair, the Grunts have always had awkward proportions. I am sad that a cone backed, gas masked mouthed grunt will not be returning though. Such a weird thing to remove.

They did, but those were crazy little space dude proportions, not at all like a generic cartoon representation of a human.

...with firm little buttocks.

Infection really has come a long way since Halo 2 customs.

Now all we need is a backwash remake {LOL} for some gnarly machinima.

I wonder if Flood mode is just 10 players in Matchmaking or if it's only limited to 10 players in custom games as well.

I don't think there would be any reason not to have a community playlist for Infection/Grifball. And from what i understand, it's 10 humans and 2 zombies, making it a 12 person hopper.

Fingers crossed.

Please do this, they are so drastically different from other Halo game types and what most would consider the core gameplay of Halo that it makes sense to keep them separated

I just noticed the hitmarkers in campaign. :/ Or maybe I forgot about them since the E3 build. Le sigh.

I also hope we can toggle off the helmet edges.

Happy birthday to fellow NCian Duncan.

not sure if posted but if you use

Promo Code: EMCYTZT2231

at newegg you can preorder halo 4 for $45 with free shipping. I dunno if their free shipping sucks ass or not though.

No. Not a bug. Weird emergent UI decision based on a number of factors. At first my mind was blown, because I found out about it in a review meeting internally, but then it was pointed out to me I had been playing like that for six months and never noticed - just like the grand majority of test subjects. That's the symptom, but the reason is slightly more layered.

* There are so many weapons that silhouettes become semi-meaningless. Sure you can see a plasma pistol, but by the time players get to concussion rifle versus plasma mortar, those start to lose mnemonic cohesion. You add in several geometric and semi-symmetrical forerunner weapons, DMR versus BR, increased necessary sandbox cycling in campaign, MP and SPOPs, playlist/mode cycling and several other scenarios you can fill in yourself, as well as multiple user selectable load outs, it became apparent through testing and data that the most effective method for payers to understand what their secondary weapon was - was the weapon switch button, followed surprisingly, by memory. The experience and data around those allow us to reduce UI clutter by one item. And the HUD, while in some ways more subtle In terms of saturation and brightness now, needs as much clarity and simplicitly as possible to increase immersion and enhance gameplay space without letting its animation and audio do more than increase the sense of 'place 'in the user FOV.

It's an almost invisible and very subtle change for a very subtle improvement in the experience on balance. In certain game modes, Snipers for example, it's easy to see why it doesn't matter. But ironically player load outs vastly improve player awareness about what secondaries are. Worst case scenario, you will barely notice and get used to it. Best case scenario it will streamline your experience and in a hyper edge case, save your life when an enemy Tag appears in that extra real estate.

That's an experiential description, not necessarily the design breakdown.

Not that I really care, but spotted this on HBO and thought it was pretty weird. I dont really use the weapon silhouettes myself outside of Fiesta which I never really play so its honestly not a big deal, but it seems like the UI design on the game is totally schizophrenic considering we have people here asking if its possible to remove the white text, the helmet overlay stuff etc for a streamlined UI.

Not complaining, just thought it was a odd post - I think the in game UI is something I have to try for myself before judging it, and I dont think I will miss weapon sillhouettes, but I do think I prefer medals to white text. I mean we have heard a few times that the white text becomes invisible after time.... so how do we know if we got a double, a triple etc? Medals where a much cleaner way of quickly displaying that info.

Am I right in thinking medals have been replaced with the white text in terms of as a UI element? I might be crazy but I dont think I saw them in the few videos I watched? - If im wrong (which I most certainly think I am) then good lol!

This post pretty much sums up my thoughts upon reading Frankie's explanation. It's not necessarily bad and I'm pretty sure that it won't take away from my enjoyment, but I found it kind of weird too.

I think I heard the no medals thing was a bug or something in the last build but not seeing them again in the latest videos is kind of weird... I hope they're not gone, they're actually very good-looking by now.

I enjoyed the PAX stuff a lot more without the medals because there was still Steizer, the center text, and all the waypoints for the CTF going on. The medals are nice, and indeed they have dramatically improved over the alpha/beta stuff we saw, but now they feel like overpolish. Something in that triad of feedback needs to get toned down or go away for me--and it's a combo of centertext and Steizer, who though I love him is going to be just one more layer of audio in a very noisy game.

Edit: Happy birthday, Duncan! How does everyone know who's birthday is when, exactly?

I really hope medals are not gone. I find them to be a much more stylish and unobtrusive way of communicating these things to the player than the white text.

Their reasoning for removing the secondary weapon on the HUD is fine by me. I just wish the same reasoning (reducing UI clutter) was applied when they were thinking of adding the white text. It doesn't seem to make much sense.

I know it's been said many times that 'you barely notice it', it 'becomes invisible' after a few games, etc. Still a weird thing to force on to players (there should be a toggle).

Anyone else think it's weird that the camera goes nuts on every death? It's always showing close-ups of the ground, culling through objects, and going haywire. Hope it's fixed. I would prefer killcam to that.

If you ask me the medals still look pretty bad.

6 of the 8 shown here are grey, white and blue and from the videos (mostly the UNSC weapon trailer) it seems like a lot of the other medals also have the same color scheme. Medals should be easily distinguishable from each other and this is achieved the easiest having more varying colors. I'm pretty sure even multi-kills all have the same color and the only difference is that there's more stars the higher the multiplier is. What happened to double being yellow, triple being blue, overkill being orange, etc.? You could see what you got in a quick glance which is what was so great about it.

I guess it doesn't matter that much because Mr. Steitzer screams everything into your ear and there's the white text in the middle of your screen but I still think it's a step backwards.

Happy Birthday Duncan.

I can give you free web shows, if you want?

Also, happy birthday Duncan, my love.

Happy Birthday Duncan. :)

I would if I still had the game. Stephen helped me with mine years ago and I know how much of a pain in the ass it can be.

Player population decline in America, increase in Mexico.

Nothing is worse than getting them as hosts, getting destroyed, then they send you a shit talking message in Spanish.

Blergh.

From what I've seen, the double and triple kill medal do look much like each other. It's once again 343 changing pretty iconic stuff for no apparent reason but wanting to show it's their game now.
