What Wii-U?
Terrible.
For Australian 3DS users, does it lock games specifically to AU or just PAL so UK games can be purchased?

I believe that the DS Lite was not region-locked as I remembered playing the Japanese Dragon Quest IX before purchasing the North American version. Interesting, the one can change the menu language of the DS Lite to Japanese.I'm thinking here, has Nintendo ever released a console (not handheld) that wasn't region locked in some fashion?

Come on then hackers, get over any of that Nintendo nostalgia and make this your priority box to crack wide open.
Simply unacceptable, and a lot more more furore should be generated and displayed about this than there will be.

Still a slave to NoA. "Can we pweeease get-" "NO!"
Oh man! Nothing worse than only getting to play a demo 30 times! Oh wait! That's more than enough to form an opinion on a game. Such a silly "burn" on your part.
Vita's retail games are region free, as were PSP's, and PS3's. Sony's stupid PSN account stuff is because they view handhelds as 1 per person, thus only 1 account needed. They view consoles as family devices, hence more than 1 account. PS4 won't be region locked.
I'd never import a game that I couldn't read the text in, but it still sucks for the people who are going to get fucked over by NoA, NoE seems relatively ok at bringing stuff over.
This gen should tell you that it's not always games in foreign languages that don't get released in certain regions.
The entire EU is in the same console region.I still find it amazing that region locking is allowed under various laws which exist in the world such as the EU Treaties in that companies cannot price fix or run a cartel.
While I agree with you about the nature of region locking, see the previous paragraph.region locking is price fixing, there is no argument on this. You are controlling how much the consumer must pay, but introducing artificial systems for no other reason to control the price of the good.
Unless the UN become an economical governing body, or nintendo goofed up and introduced sub-regions in EU and/or US, there's no international law that can meet your demands.in a globalized world and with free trade agreements in place between numerous nations, it should be illegal.
I honestly haven't really kept up with what gets released and what doesn't, I just know that I'm relatively fine in the UK, save from a few (very) late releases.

Blame the shitty dollar if you wanna blame anything. US games are already massively cheaper than JP ones and the yen is so strong Japanese gamers could easily import most language-light games on the way cheap. Need that yen.

Oops I guess I meant was there a region lock specifically for Australia but from the responses it looks like it just it's just PAL region locking. ThanksPAL AU is the same as PAL UK.
Expected news and I wasn't that interested in a Wii U in the first place, but if this was region free I'm sure I would've taken a harder look @ getting one... I'm not really interested in paying Australian prices...

Why limit them at all? And in case you haven't noticed, there's demos with a 5 play limit as well. But yeah, you're right, let's just apologize for shitty anti-gamer behavior. Thank god Nintendo figured out how to limit plays on demos before coming up with an achievement system or learning how to tie purchases to users instead of to hardware.
