Nice Impressions Over.

So Carbine is poop, to you but looked very good in other videos. Would you say it was like Halo 3 Carbine?

impressions

I DISAGREE WITH SOME OF YOUR impressions, I felt they were often negative for the sake of being negative, or at the least, overly pessimistic,
maybe your mood was effected by the whatever the hell preview thing + shit map/gametype

idk, but this bothered me specifically, maybe you could defend it, or explain it better

-The ordnance weapon drop system seemed terrible. At one point during a match I was on top of the bases about halfway through a match and suddenly there was a bright flash and I heard an explosion. I jumped down from the roof only to find out that a power weapon dropped right where I was a second ago at the top of the base, right on top of me. There wasn't anything warning me that a power weapon would get dropped on that location at that time. It just dropped from the air and I could only see it the moment it hit the ground and it showed up on the radar and it had a waypoint above it.

If your talking about PERSONAL ordnance, then I cant imagine how you came to that conclusion because of the weird orange highlight thingy of when you call something in

If your talking about ON MAP power weapons, why would you complain? Theres no "warning" when rockets spawn in any other Halo game

I'm talking about global ordnance. And why am I complaining? Well, maybe because the spawn location is fucking random unlike in previous Halos.

Why are you moaning at him for his first opinions on the game?

-The audio sounded like everything was a lot more... metallic. This is - of course - especially the case for the UNSC weapons but the Carbine also sounded like it was shooting rounds rather than plasma. The Covenant weapons lost a bit of their character in that regard. Not that I particularly care, but whatever. The shield recharge sound also sounded different. I wasn't the 'whoooom' sound anymore but more of a 'tsss - clunk' sound if that makes sense. IMPORTANT STUFF

I am worried about the direction that 343 is taking with Halo 4 because it keeps adding elements that have caused me to stop playing a certain other franchise. I stopped playing Call of Duty because too often I felt like I was cheated by the game. I often felt like I didn't die or lose a game because I played badly, but because the game mechanics screwed me over. In CoD you will never know what to expect from your opponents, the game becomes very unpredictable and not in a good way. 343 can use the word "dynamic" all they want but I don't always see that as a good thing. Halo was awesome because it was simple and you it was predictable. Not in a way that you predict what will happen during a game - enough crazy 'random' stuff happens in Halo - but the way of knowing what you're up against. You fight against 4 other dudes with a BR primary, AR secondary and 2 grenades. On the map are X, Y and Z power weapons in locations A, B and C. That's it, you know what you're up against and skill will be the decisive factor. In CoD this isn't the case at all and you'll have to guess what kind of player you will be facing. Will he have extra armor? Extra ammo? Faster movement speed? 3 grenades instead of two? You don't know. Obviously there's still a lot of skill involved in Cod but in a different way than Halo. This is what people mean when they say that CoD is more rock-paper-scissors more than anything. They don't mean literally having a few things that counter each other perfectly, they mean that you can't predict what features the other player has so it becomes a bit of a gamble. Some people like this but I'm not a fan of this at all.

I'll be clear about this: Halo 4 isn't even close to being that bad in that regard as CoD but it's definitely moving into that direction and that's probably what's most worrying. Because that is not Halo to me.

Nice description man.

Haha, this post is funnier than Over's impressions.

Im not.

Im completely okay with hearing his criticisms, however, some of his opinions specifically didnt sit well with me, Im asking him to elaborate his position.

I'm talking about global ordnance. And why am I complaining? Well, maybe because the spawn location is fucking random unlike in previous Halos.

I have no issue if you think the position is "random", Im sure once we all play and learn the maps the locations wont be random anymore

I just didnt understand what you meant.

There are preset locations on the map where the weapons will spawn but it will still randomly pick one of these locations. That's why not having a warning so both teams can properly set up is bad design in my opinion. (Honestly I think it shouldn't be random in the first place but that ship has sailed.) It creates an unfair advantage for one of the teams because they just happen to be in the right spot to grab a power weapon that happens to be spawning there. 343 calls it dynamic, I call it broken.

We also don't know whether the times are random, right?

So i have faults with my 7th Razer Onza. Should i get another, or revert back to a wired standard controller. Thoughts?

This will be the second Onza i will have to pay for. I've had 6th replacements.

Sucks they had to do Infinity Slayer which is random and unpredictable and then instead of keeping things fair in regular game modes, they made those random too.

I don’t understand how somebody could dislike somebody else’s impressions. Also, it's Over, he looks more at the big picture and problems that can arise. That he is over critical is actually a good thing, it makes us look at the game more critical then only lavishing praise over it. Remember Reach? Yeah.

IMO Over’s impressions were really well thought out. He pointed out flaws, flow and even praised some stuff. What more could you ask for.

I simply didnt really "get" his opinions or the way he worded things.

So Im not allowed to have my opinion on his opinion?

There was something in particular that struck me as odd, I asked him to elaborate, he did
Now I understand what he meant.

His tone just seemed strange to me, and on some things we just disagree in theory

Theres nothing wrong with that.

edit:
seriously, its a difference in OPINION, mine and his,
I didnt call him a fucking idiot or anything, I just dont see eye-to-eye with him
he has no eyes, just a preorder face

Good to see the Light Rifle isn't the 'go-to' weapon despite its mathematical advantage over the other guns. I'd call that pretty well executed balance.

For the record, I like nilla's opinion on Over's opinion. But in my OWN opinion I think it's going to take a few days or more of playing the game to really take someone's gripes with the game seriously, so I don't really care to ask for specifics why he didn't like things.

Great write up Over. My fears are basically what you outlined :/

Really hope there is a mode (Classic/Ranked?) without the "random" global ordnance.

On that, U4ix is MLG Dallas going to have global ordnance?

--

Nilla, you can't "dislike" someone's opinion. You can disagree about something sure, but Over's write up was great. I would rather Over posted what he genuinely thought about the game than read 100 reviews from gaming journalists who are worse than my Grandma at Halo.

There were already modes played on events where the spawns weren'T "random", I think Hyper said something about him playing Ragnarok and the weapons were everytime the same on the same locations

Super. Cheers Ice :)

Was sadly clear after the Covie weapon trailer..

Well, you pointed out that you had a problem understanding certain things he wrote down. That doesn't mean that you dislike impressions, right? Agree?

Over was clearly on the opposite of a honeymoon period. I mean, look at how dreadfully worse his expo experience was to the rest of gaf.

He should have played more games and let his emotions settle.

Thanks Over for your impressions, I can totally agree on the Light Rifle and also think that Regicide isn't a good gametype for the reasons you mentioned.

If it makes everyone feel better

I "disagreed" with some of his impressions

not "disliked"

As I said, it just didnt really vibe with me, difference in opinion

For Example:
The Menu; I understand his concern,
I happen to like it, I didnt say he was "wrong" for not liking it

Have you played the game?

I never said I had
It was my impressions (video, other peoples impressions) vs. His hands-on

He is entitled to whatever opinions he wants

Someone posts a mostly negative review
I question it, and I get a buncha shit

I think most people knew exactly what you were saying but just wanted to make a stink out of it.

yep.

The hype is almost annoying now :( I don't feel like playing anything on my xbox anymore lol. I have plenty of other games that I've been meaning to get to, but nope, it just ain't happenin'. I can't do it. I need this game to come out. Hell, my xbox is essentially just youtube and a fuckin' phone these days :p

In other news, that was a good write up Over. I think your concerns are pretty justified, I'm sceptical about certain things myself. I just really want to try it out though. I can't wait to hear how the guys who are going to NYCC get on too :) Fuckin' hype, man.

I just think it's kind of silly for a person who hasn't played the game to disagree about the particulars of said game with someone who has.

Replay Halo 3 on Legendary. See the last scene, it is over, chief floating in space, cue sad music, watch credits till the end and then... oh shit what is that? Hype over a billion.

I for one liked Last Resort.

Same. I always laugh when people act like Zanzibar is so much better than Last Resort. Or even that Halo 2 is way better than Halo 3. The only thing that makes H2 better is the superior BR and better maps. The games are very close, the nostalgia people have for H2 is weird to me. I mean it's my favorite Halo game for MP for sure, but I don't get the people who say H2 is GOAT status and H3 sucks.

Before I ever played halo as I do now I played Zanzibar 1v1 with my friend and about for or five bowls. Zero kills. 2 hours of searching for each other. Halo 2 sucked.

Pish posh. If Over wanted to disagree with something many of the gaffers who've already played had said about the game, no one would have said anything besides 'why is that?'.

I have agreed with every other impression so far. I can't say Over's impression (as biased as I think it is) is going to impact on me too greatly only because we already disagree on many aspects of the game.

If this was anyone else and his opinions were positive, they'd be brushed aside as nothing but honeymoon games. I honestly don't see a difference though.

Over I could have saved you some time if you had invited me before you downloaded the MOH Beta; all of the impressions have been terrible.
