Short. I beat it in a single day. Rented. One sitting I think.

It's not like epic or anything, but it's not bad.

I liked the Summoner a lot. But I don't think it was PS2 exclusive.

Here's what I plan on getting:
- Dual Hearts
- Echonight: Beyond
- Exterminator

Are these any good?

My review of Dual Hearts - http://www.giantbomb.com/dual-hearts/61-12531/user-reviews/?review_id=15800

Echo Night: Beyond is an adventure game with some horror elements. Most of the time you're piecing together the puzzle of the derelict ship and there's few instances of real danger(aside from attacks by violent ghosts). Definitely worth a look.

Exterminator - Uhhh...I remember playing this game when the PS2 first came out and thought it was butt. You'd have to be the ultimate SWERY fan to enjoy it I think.

Others that I recommend:

Urban Reign is awesome - http://pepsimanvsjoe.blogspot.com/2009/09/ps2-look-urban-reign.html
Wizardry: ToFL is really good - http://pepsimanvsjoe.blogspot.com/2009/09/ps2-look-wizardry-tale-of-forsaken-land.html
King's Field: TAC is required - http://pepsimanvsjoe.blogspot.com/2009/12/ps2-look-kings-field-ancient-city.html
Crimson Sea 2 is a middling blast - http://pepsimanvsjoe.blogspot.com/2010/02/ps2-look-crimson-sea-2.html

Gonna need to check out some of the games mentioned in this thread sometime.

Genji. Really awesome game, some similarities to the Onimusha series, but some key differences which give it a unique feel.

Never played the PS3 one so I dunno if it's good, but the first one on PS2 is excellent.

I hated the sequel but yeah, the first one is a fun.

All the games I wanted to mention have been listed already by others.

- Psi-Ops
- The Suffering.
- Chaos Legion.
- The Bouncer.
- Shinobi.
- Genji.
- Shadow of Memories.
- Operation Winback.

Man, the PS2 was one hell of a console.
Then there's Chaos Legion, which is probably Capcom's most overlooked effort on the platform despite also being one of their best. Which is saying alot. Capcom was my favorite developer on PS2.

Amazing music too.

They're not obscure but I think all the Shin Megami Tensei games on the PS2 were really solid. Some can get fairly expensive like Devil Summoner though.

Zoso

It's been a long time, been a long time, been a long lonely lonely lonely lonely lonely time.
Dunno if its considered cult but SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 were some great JRPGs by Atlus that came out before the whole Persona craze.
This is my suggestion too. You don't hear about DDS 1 & 2 quite as much as Persona or Nocturne. But Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 are actually my favorite SMT games out of the ones I've played.

From when Capcom actually created things worth buying...[/QUOTE]

I've always wanted to play this, sounds kind Majora's Mask-ish

I second Bouncer and Chaos Legion too; both are games being great because the sum of their parts; you may not remember them later, but you'll enjoy beating them a lot

I hadn't ever though about it, but wow!! I got following games from Capcom on PS2 [if not forgetting something!]:

DMC
DMC2
DMC3
RE:CVX
RE:4
Onimusha
Onimusha2
Onimusha3
Chaos Legion

And excluding CVX, I finished all of them! PS2 was truly a beast, but I just realized what an important role Capcom had in making experience.

edit: OK, I had forgotten some: Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Clock Tower 3, Shadow of Rome.

man, how low they fell this generation :((

echo night beyond is a absolute masterpiece. It's hard to survive,it's hard to understand what to do. And an incredibile atmosphere...

don't forget shadow tower abyss, you can even play it in english

Also God Hand, Dragon Quarter, the Sengoku Basara series as well(granted it's JP only really), the Maximo games, Shadow of Rome and Onimusha 4. As well as Monster Hunter's humble beginnings

Capcom was something else last gen. Tons of variety in the same genre from them exclusively

PS2 era Capcom was probably my favorite. Even moreso than their arcade era. So many cool games from them. (and there should have been more! Seven Sons :'( )

Now they still make some cool stuff(Monster Hunter, SF4, Sengoku Basara 3, DMC4+Dragon's Dogma) but they can't touch their level last gen in sheer creativity or volume

Echo Night is good, really enjoyed the first 2 games too. Finding it hard to get into Kings Field though. Hate the music.

Don't know if it's obscure but Shadow of Rome is great.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
Shadow of rome
Siren games
Mercenaries

may be.....
Full Spectrum Warrior (also on pc, Xbox)
Silent Hill 4

If you can find a copy of it, Stella Deus: The Gate of Eternity is a pretty good turn based strategy RPG. Atlus published it and it's got quite a few people who worked on Final Fantasy Tactics and the Persona series.

Stupid titles don't help sales. I remember that one.

Yeah, the title is awful. XD I keep hoping it'll show as a PS2 Classic tho.

This thread is really showinf that PS2 Classics on PSN need to start pushing out more stuff. Theres a lot of shit on PS2 worth playing but no reprints just means if you would want to you have this huge price barrier in the way unless you want to emulate.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I already finished Haunting Ground and Shadow of Memories (PSP). Great games though, few of my all time favorites.

I'm thinking of Chulip, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Samurai Western, Bouncer, Steambot Chronicles, and Glass Rose.

Is Shadow Hearts: From the New World recommendable? I've never played a SH game and I have that. Also is Gungrave: Overdose recommendable? It's on US PSN though.

It's the weakest of the three Shadow Hearts games, but it's still good. Covenant is the one you want to play if at all possible.

I know it's already been said, but....
Steambot_Chronicles_Coverart.png

Probably one of my favorite games of all time, it's not too long, it's fun to play, and you can play it numerous times

I'm still sad the sequel got cancelled :(

not sure if this is really obscure or not. The game isn't very good but it's not terrible either, it was kind of very short too but had fun with it, char. design is by Nomura and soundtrack by Hamauzu if you care.

Aqua Aqua and especially Bombastic are nice little puzzle games. If you can find Robot Alchemic Drive, that's a unique game with a gimmick that you may love or hate: you play as the pilot of a (very) giant robot, but you're not inside the giant robot. You stand somewhere, a puny human, and use the controller to control the robot from a distance. It's sometimes frustrating, but the PS2 was great for offbeat experiments like that.

Haunting Ground is the best horror game mentioned, but I'd recommend Kuon as well. It's by From, and you can tell: the gameplay is kind of stiff and frustrating, but the setting and atmosphere are really compelling.

Siren (not really obscure, but you never know) and good job at grabbing Rule of Rose.

And then you can import Siren 2 from Europe if you're in the US.

Man, I saw Streambot Chronicles used for a good price months ago and didn't pick it up. maybe later.

Some obscure games I can recommend:
Legend of Kay, a great Zelda-like Adventure with excellent graphics and gameplay.
Sphinx and the cursed Mummy, also Zelda-like, but with some of the best puzzle sections I ever experienced in a game.

I post this in every PS2 thread. Wish someone else would admit to at least owning it.

Jade Coccoon 2. Kinda like Pokemon, random battles, you build up a 'team' of monsters. The really interesting part is the battles. There's a four sided wheel, that you spin during battle to select the monsters to use. The wheel has 4 elements, the monsters have strengths in 1 element, and limited strength in another. 3 monsters are usable, the center monster is only available in that element. The other 2 are available in a second element.

I'm horrible at describing it, you should really check it out. Awesome game.

The first game and Legend of Legaia are 2 RPGs that I always played the hell out of the demos back in the day. I always did mean to go back and play them fully maybe some day.
