"The War Z" trademark suspended; will have to be renamed (contest winners!)

Just looking at the update on that post in the op:

Sergey Titov has now answered to this obvious suspension of their trademark application, but the funny thing is: He apparently doesn’t know how the trademark system in the US works and thinks his trademark is issued. Once again he answers before simply checking the facts.

In his statement on the offical forums he writes the following:

guys,

this is getting to be ridiculous.

1) go to uspto.gov
2) Go to TESS - trademark search
3) search for War Z
4) Enjoy LIVE trademark !

Why spread lies ?
even more -I was sent this link like three already - and looks like people are not even reading this document.

It basically says that this application is suspended because there’s another application with regards to this trademark.

This is as stupid as saying that colorado map is only 3x3 km.

Won't argue people don't know about trademarks, but what this means is that the examiner has stopped looking at it til wwz is registered. So wz is in limbo and in trouble if Paramount fights it (and they should since it is very similar)

This trademark is clearly NOT registered though, it's only an application.

This is just getting so amazingly silly every time something about this game comes up.

Okay, so, if the problem is with the "Z" and the game is about zombies, wouldn't this affect DayZ too when the stand-alone comes out? It shouldn't affect it now, since its just a mod.

The problem is between "War Z" and "World War Z".

DayZ is completely separate from wwz and wz. I didn't check, but I'm not even sure if they applied for a tm.

The problem is that War Z is part of World War Z. So it's not like I can file for something like the Amazing Batman and point to Amazing as it being different since Batman is registered.

Oh doh, completely glazed over the word "War" being in both titles. Sorry about that, I've been chugging on the "good" eggnog the last couple of hours.

Fuck I don't even know how you could climb out of this mess.

I don't envy his position. Not that I would ever get there.

It's probably best to apologies for everything, completely change the name and look and start promoting it honestly as a new project.
