NHL Lockout With Your Cock Out |OT|

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I absolutely hate the idea of the new playoffs. It drives me crazy when sports get stupid and limit exposure to other markets (i.e., baseball before interleague play).

I'd hate for the cap to be as wonky as the NBA's. I'd prefer an NHL/NFL style cap in the MLB but that's a different discussion for a different time.

Did they fix the whole giant contract thing in these CBA talks?

It's still on the table

And for reference to explain why the cap going too high is bad

They have cap at $70 million going into current season
Teams have 2 compliance buyouts to use before season 2
$61 million cap is considered flat revenue growth from 2011-2012
Now in season 2, cap at $65 million... Revenues drop.

Now say you have 10 competitive teams hugging the cap... $65 million

Floor at $44

But with revenue drop, cap falls to $52 million... A 15% revenue drop from 2011-2012. Now you have $130 million in salary teams have to shift or buyout- depending on the teams... A lot may still be above cap or meeting floor. Those 20 teams, if at floor would be $160 million in space... That's just the team at the floor.

This will either a) cause NHL to have a 100% utilization of cap and/or b) totally fuck over most of those 10 teams

Still upset about the Finals during the last shortened season? :D

Well if we make it there and then win back to back Stanley Cups two years after like last time, maybe it won't be so bad after all.

So you can expect us to win back to back cups in 2014-15 and 2015-16 if we have a shortened season, wooo!! :D

I still don't want a shortened season

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I'm still planted in the camp that I do not want a 52 game season, a shortened season for me just seems pointless.
Agreed. I mean, if this shit gets taken care of, I'll at least watch the games, but I would rather just have a fresh start in the fall. A shortened season just feels gross. Level of play will be lessened, there'll be a bunch of injuries, playoffs will feel cheapened... ehh. Imagine if the Leafs finally make the playoffs. Can you comprehend how wrong that would be?

I really hope they at least give away GameCenter for free. I wonder if they'll have the sense to do that.

so how did you become a jackets fan anyway? did you lose a bet?

Went to a game with a friend last year and it was at Nationwide. I tend to root for the underdog and I've been hooked to hockey ever since. Nationwide is a really nice arena.

Still don't know many players outside of the Jackets. I played a fair amount of the NHL game last year to try and figure some things out. I did enjoy the Flyers-Pens playoff series last year.

Pull Crosby from negotiations before he slams his head against the table and gets another concussion.

Hearing there's a tentative agreement on player pensions again.

My source: deal is not as close as reported today; several outstanding issues including pensions; still work to be done - gap remains

Macramalla followed up by saying:

@pete_starzynski They are closing in but nothing tonight

Quote from the negotiating room on the agreement they've reached:

[NHL on the phone with the NHLPA] Then it's agreed: during the bargaining session, we each get two candy apples...all right, one candy and one caramel.

The final piece of the CBA will be an agreement that both sides must give credit to Sidney Crosby for giving an emotional speech that brought both sides together.

I've been waiting so long for this.

In December, PA felt NHL was pushing for a deal too fast and wanted to slow down the process, wary of making a mistake. Same dynamic now.

Vet agent: deal as good as done, league now taking it to final hour, grabbing what's left to take off table.

So the PA was slowing down a deal and still is. Wonderful.

Guys, this stuff isn't funny any more. Come on. Brain injuries are no laughing matter.
how are we supposed to make fun of tabris if we cant make fun of people with brain injuries?

Better they get it right than have a hiccup because they're rushing it. Today...Tomorrow...Monday...Doesn't matter to me. Just get it done.
Fucking LOL

Maybe the PA should have used the months they refused to negotiate to get it right.
