A lot of the regular HD content isn't available on PC anyway. Wonder if this is true for the windows 8 app.Only 7Mbit? Come on, I have over 100Mbit download, let me use it!
And seriously, limiting it to ISP's is just silly. To make it so that only the Netflix app on Win 8 can stream "super hd", now that is just stupid.
Holy fuck, I'm from Puerto Rico and my ISP supports it, I clicked on the link and I really wasn't expecting it.
wtf
So Netflix offering new services for free is a bad thing? wut?
Surprised at Verizon Fios and Xbox 360 not making the list. Guessing both will be supported soon though.
Restricting services to certain ISPs is definitely a bad thing.
Maybe it is the ISP that don't want to be part of it....
You know bandwidth costs for them.

Netflix isn't taking anything away, they're simply unable to provide due to your ISP not following Netflix's rules.
Thank God my ISP is sensible and adheres to standards.
Xbox 360 limits playback to 720p.
Yes restriction like that are bad, but it's not a simple situation. It's a costs issue.Restricting services to certain ISPs is definitely a bad thing.
Oh no ... you might actually have to send and email or make a forum post. wahhhhhhhhthey're not offering new services for free though, they're trying to co-opt me into being their marketing partner with my ISP.
Yeah it was just upgraded.VUDU has 1080p streaming.

Their cost issue. Are you under the impression doubling bitrates while serving millions of concurrent users isn't costly? It would be a small fortune. What cost issue? We already have data caps so let me blow it on "Super HD" or whatever else I want.
Why would I not be ok with getting notably higher quality video at the same cost I'm paying now?I can't believe you're ok with this.
I can't believe you're ok with this.
Read the above and tell me where I'm wrong? You haven't read GAF enough then. There's always someone.
pay more, or not get the service at all?
So they should just eat the cost? This premise is flawed.
So they should just eat the cost?
I love the every for free attitude many at gaf have.
What does this have to do with what you pay for internet, your netflix subscription, or net neutrality? We're not asking to have anything for free, we pay for our internet and we pay for our Netflix subscription. Something something something Net Neutrality.
Why would I not be ok with getting notably higher quality video at the same cost I'm paying now?
The alternative to them going with Netflix Open Connect is simply raising their rates, or not offering the improved service.
I bet the 3D is just 1080p SBS so they could offer it on the regular HD streams if they wanted to anyway, it shouldn't require higher bandwidth.why would i be ok with not getting notably higher quality video at the same cost I'm paying now?
especially since i just got a 3DTV!
fuck Netflix for wanting to use me as a pawn.
You signed up for Netflix based on what they were offering at the time.why would i be ok with not getting notably higher quality video at the same cost I'm paying now?

you posted this reply based on pure nonsense. You signed up for Netflix based on what they were offering at the time.
If it costs them money to increase video quality, why would they be obligated to give that to you for free?
The quality is pretty good from what I've watched, the windows 8 netflix app does suck though, no search

why would i be obligated to give a real reply?
In early 2012 Netflix began enabling Internet service providers (ISPs) to receive, at no cost to them, Netflix video directly at the interconnection point of the ISP's choice. By connecting directly through Open Connect, ISPs can more effectively manage their networks and more efficiently deliver Internet services to consumers, including the more than 1 billion hours of Netflix TV shows and movies consumers watch every month.
"Leading-edge ISPs around the world such as Cablevision, Virgin Media, British Telecom, Telmex, Telus, TDC, GVT, among many others, are already participating in Open Connect to provide the highest-possible quality Netflix service to consumers," said Netflix Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings. "Our goal is to have all of our members served by Open Connect as soon as possible."

Reading some PR,

Looks like it is all on the ISP. Perhaps costs of re-configuring their network is holding certain ISP's back? I don't know. Could also be ego or existing contract clauses with media providers.

Thanks for adding so much to this thread.why?
Funny how legit streaming is just now catching up to pirates....
Is this just 1080p 5MB/s (maybe 4MB/s based on the connection required?) encoded with h.264 or what. Is there some analysis?
OP says they're 7Mbps and yes, probably h264 since only the html5 clients are supported
