i think we should do a petition against nintendo to have the entire details specs of the machine to get done with it,come on! the thing is out it's our right to know.

The funny thing is I read somewhere that the GBA specs we're still on NDA up until a few months ago.

Not 100% sure though.

That's pretty amazing. I know the DS GPU is kind of mysterious still. Actually, I was browsing Chipworks and they have a bunch of scans for the Wii and 3DS hardware that we've never had the privilege of seeing. We should get a Kickstarter going for a complete reveal on all Nintendo hardware from the past decade!

We all know it doesn't come anywhere near the next gen machines. It may have a gpu that is similar in that its much more modern but it's held back in every other regard.

In the Trine 2 thread, a developer of the game basically confirms the Wii U is more powerful than the hd twins but it doesn't have the power to run the game at 60fps at 720P. A mid range PC could easily do that, probably even at 1080P.

The GPU specs are pretty well laid out. It's GPU is based off of an AMD card from 2010. It's CPU is heavily based off of the old IBM Power PC chips.

Lol, I agree. Nintendo shouldn't care if we know the NES-Wii/GB-DS specs now.

Pretty crazy we have more detail of the ps4/720 and those haven't even been announced.

People getting the xray just post it somewhere....

The next gen consoles are mid range PCs.

Donations for GPU7 analysis funded!

Come on folks, send those funds... Let's complete this project in record time.

So far so good!

Trust me, if I HAD the money, I would have donated it a LONG time ago. The problem is that I am a poor bastard living in a town where the only good-paying jobs involve a 75% chance of getting crushed by steel piping and a 100% chance of coming home smelling like crude.

Depending on how this current Wii U adventure goes, I would not mind doing this. :)

Well I've offered an extra £20 to hit the target; so it'll be a waiting game for the chip tech guys to have a peek and hopefully reveal some info, though I imagine it'll be rather basic.

Better than nothing though.

Post a photo, please.

Please go back and re-read the last 5 pages or so if you are so interested. These are just all topics that have been thoroughly discussed and it is just derailing conversation.

That being said however, the photo can not be posted due to copyright reasons. Therefore a drawing and analysis of the chip will be posted here in a few days.

Until then we still have a few more hours of endless speculation.

I speculate that what is found is a pleasant surprise but only slightly so. I want to say GPU will be confirmed r770 and Edram is in fact 32mb with higher bandwidth than we expect. [edit: cautious optimism]

Are contributors getting a copy? I'd like to see it.

Link? Also, was this with or without the gamepad?

Yeah, I don't think this was ever said. Of course if you have a link I could stand corrected

How about 59fps at 720p? ;)

Can somebody help a man lost and tell me what on earth is going on here? Pictures of the GPU? I don't understand this. Why does it cost $200 for pictures and who charges that? Do teardowns like I often see for devices not work for this? Couldn't somebody just open their Wii U and look at the information? Or are these some kind of special images showing more than the human eye can see? Why can't you post the pictures?

I've never been so lost before.

ChipWorks is a company that takes the chips from devices, removes the protective coverings of said chips (which is an expensive and difficult process, hence the $200 price tag) and takes extremely high-quality images of those chips for people who are knowledgeable on this kind of thing determine what the hell is in this chip and how powerful/crap is it. No, teardowns are only good for finding out the names of chips and what type of RAM they are using. If I interpreted this correctly, the reason why they can't distribute photos is because the buyer has to agree to not distribute the image (otherwise, their business would be rendered useless).

There we go. Thank you my good sir. That makes sense.

This link below will explain to you from developer.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=46928144&postcount=62

This is a bit silly since the target for the game was never 60 fps to begin with, i.e. it doesn't need such a high framerate to be smooth and playable, and instead they improved the eyecandy.

I don't know why it's relevant. Will we now make a list of every Wii U game and see if "mid-tier" PCs could match or surpass them? Nintendo Land runs 60 fps for practically the entire time, do you want to start there?

Indeed. It's a wrap, folks! Many thanks to all those who contributed. Look forward to the info in the coming days.

Cool bananas. And remember, post fake diagrams and info and wait a few days. Let all the leeching game sites that should have done this themselves suck on some wrong info for a while.

GAF is weird and wonderful. A strange thing to spend your money on, and honestly Nintendo should have just been more open about specs, but I'm really pumped to see the news or images that come out of this. Those high res photos are insane. The detail!

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Oh, man. I tried sending a PM to Fourth Storm earlier this evening to chip in for the chip pics but it turned out it never went through. I'm pretty sure NeoGaf mobile has a bug in the private message form where if you leave the subject field blank it will take you straight to your inbox instead of giving you an alert box about the required field.

Wait.. why are you guys paying for some chip pics?
is there important information we don't know already?

Watch it end up being completely foreign looking without any recognizable components.

(Not that I want anyone's money to go to waste...but part of the fun is the mystery, it'd be kind of funny if we're still clueless after this)

At least we will have more material to speculate about :p

Heh, I just realized that happened to me eariler. No wonder the person I PMed didn't reply :p

One of the least talked about aspects of the Wii U's awesomeness is for me finally playing twin-stick shooters with the sticks in the right place. I hate how the 360 makes me awkwardly spread my thumbs out different lengths, and the PS3 is worse with the sticks so far back. The Wii U has the sticks both in the top corners, and I've never been so comfortable. True, sometimes that B button can be a bitch to reach down to, but I'll take it.

Just dropped out of bed (EU) to see the entire amount being donated. Well, good news i guess, seeing as i didn't need to chip in, lol.

Yes, especially throw off VGleaks, who didn't reply to my question and obviously are not interested (*sarcasm*) in this kind of news. Give the scoop to RMC for all i care.
