EDGE said that Sony was shooting for 8GB and everything else that they said about the PS4 was correct too. They had the controller and game recording correct. They also said that the PS4 will be significantly more powerful than the next Xbox. So far they have been correct on everything else

16GB would amount to 32 4Gb chips, the motherboard would be too complex.

Increasing the amount of ESRAM would reduce the yields of the SOC, they won't do that.

You can't just switch outright to GDDR5 this late in the game. We're 9 month from the holidays and these things have to go into production 6 months beforehand.

A beefier GPU would require more bandwidth to feed. Improving the GPU would also result in lower yields for the SOC.

I think people just have to come to terms with the fact that there is going to be a big power disparity this generation. There will be 3 clearly separate tiers of graphics.

Microsoft's entire Durango design was built to accommodate 8GB of slow DDR3 RAM. To switch to GDDR5 would basically obsolete all the R&D they've done so far. It would also negate any price advantage they would have over the PS4.

Microsoft is just going to go for a lower price, $150 to $200 cheaper most likely, and focus a lot on Kinect novelty to try to capture the Wii audience that didn't buy a Wii U. They'll probably sell more Xbox than PS4 with this strategy too.

Too complex.

Switch to GDDR5 will also require monumental changes such as completely different memory controller, which will need another tape-out etc.

They can bump up the RAM amount which seems easiest of the bunch.

Hear that, folks? Microsoft has abandoned the audience that made Halo 4 and Minecraft XBLA the top-selling console games in the industry in 2012.
As soon as Halo 4 released in November, Microsoft went into "screw the hardcore" mode and went full-steam ahead into Kinect-exclusive game development.

There's not even a POWER button. The Xbox will only turn on when you walk in front of the Kinect camera and it recognizes your identity from its memory database.

In fact, if someone else walks in front of the camera with you, the system requires them to flash their passport in front of the Kinect to confirm their identity. Microsoft will then start billing your guest for Xbox LIVE guest access by making automatic withdrawals from their bank account.

Nothing is set in stone yet, sony might be lying, while MS final spec might be different.

Where the fuck do people get this ideas. Sure MS can change up the hardware but that'll push the product release date to 2014. But what's with all of this constant talk of updating the hardware that hasn't even been announced yet, it's not starting well for MS and there should be at this point a lot more optimism in the air, shouldn't there?

I don't think they need to. Apart of the enthusiasts most people either won't notice or care about the graphical difference between the two plattforms, especially since we can ecpect that most games are designed to run perfectly fine on the weaker plattform.

Having a lower price point is imo much more important. MS wants to succeed right out of the gate, while Sony might struggle with too expensive hardware once again.
