VGLeaks rumor: Durango CPU Overview

Nah.

The info in that document would have been encrypted.

Could it be that guy from Crytek that tweeted about it and then deleted it? lol

Yes it was. I think it was the first time we learned about the next Xbox codename was Durango, or we got it confirmed.

Didn't he tweet something about it being two systems in one or some such nonsense?

His tweet was that he was at the meeting and there was a lot of interesting talks and plenty of swag.

I don't remember that, but there was a tweet from a Crytek guy last year around February that was like "This Durango summit is really interesting" or something similar. That was right around the time the Durango code word was leaking and it basically confirmed it.

I have no idea if there is to be another internal meeting then. Wait and see I suppose.

The Crytek guy just made an off the cuff tweet about the exciting Durango meeting and very quickly his twitter account was nuked and everyone thought the poor guy got fired (he didn't)

I doubt the leak was from him. But I do think it possible the leak came from that meeting.

I bet the eSRAM plays a big part in the efficiency. If managed properly (and that's a huge if), it should eliminate a lot of stall cycles from the GPU when data can't be prefetched into the L2 cache or caches are blown out.

Its just to do with GCN because its so much more efficient the quote numbers have 0 to do with anything other then the GPU architecture which is GCN1

I'd be in the dick
I heard something about another Durango meeting for March 4th.

It would make sense for them to have an official announcement before GDC when devs are going to be talking about next gen and sharing their goals for it. They could do a simple announcement to lift the curtain with a blowout showing later on.

One of my better photoshop creations. :) Im glad its getting noticed [its not a first tome someone posted that avatar].

First time we hear about Durango/Orbis names was from Pastebin:

No firm date has been set for either, but currently they are stating that they are both setting to launch for the Holiday season in 2013. Codename of XB3 is "Durango". PS4 Codename is "Orbis".

Both consoles are going to have Blu-Ray, with support for Single-Layer and Dual-layer, and higher-fidelity versions of their current motion control systems.

The X-Box 3 is going to have an 8-core 64-bit processor (assumedly an i7 or similar design) rated at 1.2 Teraflops. The PS4 will feature a 4-core 32-bit processor. XB3 will be using a GPU running support for DirectX 11, while the PS4 will be using an OpenGL 4 GPU. XB3 is specified to use 4 GB RAM, and the PS4 will be shipped with 2GB.

Specifications state that the PS4 will have *NO* hard drive by default, while the XB3 will come with a 500GB Hard Drive with 8GB of Flash memory. The XB3 will also have a 24/7 connectivity system which has not been entirely elaborated on, with coming support for cloud-based connectivity in 2015/2016.

Well, let's just say that some major developers like EA games are currently very pissed because the PS4 specs are shitty compared to the next XBox and besides limiting their abilities in making more impressive games for the new Playstation, it's also going to shit up cross-platform titles in the same way that the lack of Blu-ray and Standard Hard Drive did with the XBox this generation, and Sony's not listening to their pleas for less shitty hardware. Right now, programmers are pretty much looking at it and comparing the two consoles like one is a high-end gaming PC and the other's a piece of shit eMachines unit from Walmart's $200 special (including monitor).

Seems like MS is well on their target, with the only big change being the ram amount.

I am sure there was another pastebin entry about Microsoft listening to developer requests for 8 GB of RAM. If it was increased, it was probably due to developers requesting it.

I feel like there is a lil bit of sarcasm in this post, I could be wrong.

No sarcasm at all. I am sure I can remember reading it.

Oh, I guess I read too much into it then. There's been so much stupidity posted that I can't tell who is serious anymore. Some how people have convinced themselves that since Sony increased the PS4 RAM it must be because of Microsoft and not developers who have been requesting it. But then you said
"Microsoft listening to developer requests for 8 GB of RAM. If it was increased, it was probably due to developers requesting it"
so i assumed you were being sarcastic.

I remember something similar too. EDIT:

Short and sweet:
MS were going for 2GB.
Devs complained.
MS listened.
MS bumped up RAM to 4GB
Most devs were very happy, however 1 or 2 tried complaining again.
MS told them to piss off.

This look like SuperDaE pastebin:

By the way, although I don't post there (just lurk) this is a message to a certain gaming forum. I'm sure there will be a lot of "discussion" over there.

I understand why you assumed that. I only brought it up because the person who did post those specs got a lot right except the RAM so I linked it to another article about Microsoft listening to developers about the RAM. It's probably rubbish, but there's no harm bringing it up and speculate; we have to keep ourselves entertained somehow. :p

From what I have seen and from the leaks here and elsewhere, the PS4 was 2GB memory for early dev kits with the view that the final console would have 4GB. Sony got lucky with the 4Gb chips coming through in time enabled them to go to 8GB.

Microsoft seem to have designed the Durango from the get go with 8GB DDR3/32MB eSRAM.

Well the Yukon leak does give us an insight that Microsoft were considering 4GB for Durango, but the specs in that leak are completely different to what we know now.

I'm still betting on 4gigs...

Given PS4 is stated to have 8GB, XB3 at least will have 8GB as well. Plus DDR3 are already at the same density GDDR5 reached this year, requires less power and hence lower temperature.

And the rumour of them going with that amount has been on the internet for a very long time now.

- 8 cores 64 bit
- 1.2 TFlops

Just like vgleaks. But pastebin info with discrete GPU, vgleaks only APU. And yes, maybe SuperDaE was the pastebin writer.

well sure... except he thought 720 will have 8 core i7 and PS4 will have "4 core 32bit CPU"...

what the heck is 32bit cpu? P4? K7? Not to mention without hdd, lol.

That seems a bit unlikely at this point.

The power/temp thing for GDDR5 vs DDR3 is interesting. MrFox over at B3D came up with some numbers on GDDR5.

MrFox@B3D said:
If we accept the two numbers that samsung provided for 1.35v 46nm 4GHz :
2GB 128bit = 4.3W
2GB 256bit = 8.7W

Logically, using the 128bit example twice would be:
4GB 256bit = 8.6W

It means capacity have zero impact on power, and bus width scales it linearly, so by extension, with 4Gb chips instead of 2Gb chips it's still 8.6W.
With your linear scaling from 4GHz to 5.5GHz you get 11.8W
Remove your 20% for 30nm it's 9.4W

Sure it looks too low, but it's the numbers I got from samsung. Is there any other source for gddr5 power consumption?

If the above is close... Even if the memory uses twice the power of DDR3 it would only be a ~5W difference? Which would be nothing.

No, it says 1.2TFlops for the CPU.
To be fair the MS leaked info with the low latency ESRAM is like a CPU with 1,3 Tflops. The another pastebin talks about 2 GPUs and a special link between them. What if MS has been leaking half the history?.DDR3 at 68GBs x 2 GPUs is 138GBs and 16 rops x 2 are 32.Things would have more sense, even the claim of being two computers tapped together.
