Forget about the fact that I registered in August. Or pretend this was EA's plan all along.

Haha, they're turning off "non-critical" game features, including leaderboards, achievements and region filters.

How about turning off the DRM, idiots.

Good link, I'll try using that in my quest for a refund. Round 1: EA support person said the servers were fine and sent me instructions to restart my router. Nope, sorry, pretty sure that's not going to help your servers not to corrupt the game sessions

They can implement a patch that allows off-line play.

This "patch" you want would mean
1) re-coding EVERYTHING is look to see if you are online or not
2) new game modes/options for when you are offline
3) all the code that now runs on their servers has to be made to run on a local machine (all versions of windows/mac/etc...)

Not going to happen. It was designed from the ground up to be an online game.

EA can go screw themselves. What a mess this is. Only way to redeem this game is to patch out the silly DRM. Gör om gör rätt, as we say.

Possibly the worst launch that I have ever been a part of.

But a bunch of basement neck beards can in a couple of weeks?

C'mon son stop making excuses for EA's lousy shit.

And again people please please please call your local consumer affairs body and lodge complaints. Its the only way to get any action taken against EA that they will understand.

I feel so terrible for some of the people at Maxis. Running around trying to fix all this crap. The ones that are trying to fix it almost certainly didn't make the call to make it that way in the first place. And if anyone gets let go for underperforming it will be them before some suit that sent some email about yes we need to not have piracy always online yes.

Maxis signed with EA. They're equally culpable. They designed an entire game around online - they're actually probably more culpable.

Just read there is a crack in the works by the folks who handled the ANNO crack... yeah...

If by signed with you mean bought by then sure.

Also if you believe that the people fixing shit in the trenches with their jobs on the line are the same people who designed the game to be always online and even thought it was a good idea then I don't know what to tell you.

I can write a post like on other board too, so what? It doesnt mean its legit.
I'm pretty sure that SimCity is doing some calculation on the servers, so just sending save from memory to localhost is not possible.

Anno probably just pust save file on Ubisoft servers, so it works like cloud saving, but i doubt SimCity works that way.

I'm a new member and I said something negative about Simcity, so Peter Moore came to my house, took a dollar and shot my dog.

Finally Canadian parity means something!

Whatever man. Doesn't matter to me either way to me. If they ever crack it, ok cool. if not... ok. Cool. This situation is fucked up either way.

No. Simulation occurs in the cloud too. Maxi sure as hell isn't going to patch it. Someone may find a workaround but im not sure of the efficacy of getting that to work with such a heavily network integrated game.

Glad to help. Keep us informed on your quest.

no. the fuck we do. DONT BUY THIS SHIT!

Exactly. I'm not buying this. I haven't bought anything with always-online DRM recently and I don't plan to moving forward. This includes the next generation of consoles.

Getting my copy tomorrow morning, glad I waited a bit instead of grabbing it early and VPNing it. Get those early tech issues sorted.

Maybe it's just me, but most of the people bitching have already given EA their money (good luck getting it back), and are all part of the problem. We knew about the DRM for months, you still gave EA your money, giving them justification, and now there are server problems?! Who could have seen that coming...

If you are against DRM like this, don't give them your money in the first place, and when you can't access your game because of these predictable DRM consequences, don't act surprised. The servers will eventually be smoothed out and all of this huffing and puffing will go away (until EA shuts the server down and you still preorder the next Sim City).

Probably still gonna be down, dude. Everybody's coming home Friday to play... and the servers are still down today for most people afaik and it's a Thursday. I can't imagine it will be any better over the weekend influx of EVEN MORE players.

EA Hires 100s of Chinese Spammers to Post Positively About SimCity’s Always Online Requirement

Ohoh, now it all makes sense...

I like to think of this game as an MMO. You can only play MMOs online so I’m okay with this!
I think I've read a few posts along these lines.

Don’t get a refund so soon, you should give EA another chance!
Read that one too, phrased barely more subtly.

Oh... my...

He broke a promise! Hang him!
yeah, erh... or... you know, hold him accountable?

Hrmm, yeah I kinda get that feeling. :D

See how things go but I won't get too bent out of shape for it. Would rather them tweak the servers and get the updates sorted before collecting my pitchfork

Or you know he goes to a scene release website/forum.

It's.. Interesting.. Loads of people claiming that a crack already exists or that they know that some people are working on cracking it (no shit) and that it will come out within the week or that noone wants the game so noone will bother to crack it etc.. I haven't seen anyone come with a source of any of their claims, so I just assume that they are all correct.

An EA spokesperson has denied these claims saying, “We would never stoop so low as to hire Chinese spammers to post positive spin about SimCity’s always online requirement. There is no reason to since the always online requirement is a good thing.”
Are we sure that this spokeperson wasn't a chinese spammer?

They're not sorted out, you're wasting your money.

I have probably wasted more money on Steam sale rubbish that I play for 5 minutes and never play again. £30 is not really an issue for me. Sure it is annoying but I will move on if its all busted and stuff. :D
