That's not "flipping a switch," is it? That kind of work would probably take months of time to implement, QA and distribute.
Compile a list, make a thread, and keep it updated yourself. You can do it. It won't be stickied but it will be seen by plenty. We really need a sticky or something that shows upcoming or existing games that incorporate this kind of anti-consumer DRM. People need to be informed.

Haha, they're turning off "non-critical" game features, including leaderboards, achievements and region filters.
How about turning off the DRM, idiots.

The group that cracked Ubisoft's ANNO 2070 server side saves already have a beta of the crack for SimCity 5, they are claiming to have it full functional in about a week.
They can implement a patch that allows off-line play.
Unfortunately, yes.
Game is still good. Just got a shit DRM. Unfortunately if we still want to game going forward, we'll have to get used to this.
This "patch" you want would mean
1) re-coding EVERYTHING is look to see if you are online or not
2) new game modes/options for when you are offline
3) all the code that now runs on their servers has to be made to run on a local machine (all versions of windows/mac/etc...)
Not going to happen. It was designed from the ground up to be an online game.
I feel so terrible for some of the people at Maxis. Running around trying to fix all this crap. The ones that are trying to fix it almost certainly didn't make the call to make it that way in the first place. And if anyone gets let go for underperforming it will be them before some suit that sent some email about yes we need to not have piracy always online yes.
They're turning us against each other! How do we know people calling that article bogus aren't EA spies?

If by signed with you mean bought by then sure.Maxis signed with EA. They're equally culpable. They designed an entire game around online - they're actually probably more culpable.
Just read there is a crack in the works by the folks who handled the ANNO crack... yeah...
Yea.. I'm sure that a guy that uses tpb do download his pirate games has contacts inside the release groups and knows when they release their cracks?
I can write a post like on other board too, so what? It doesnt mean its legit.
I'm pretty sure that SimCity is doing some calculation on the servers, so just sending save from memory to localhost is not possible.
Anno probably just put save file on Ubisoft servers, so it work liked cloud saving, but i doubt SimCity works that way.
I find it funny how they promised to keep the servers up and deal with things like this if it happened, and they haven't.

I had my guy try to play the game and give impressions (I bought him the game) .. I got 13 minutes of him swearing ... SimCity: Playing Games is for Chumps
No. Simulation occurs in the cloud too. Maxi sure as hell isn't going to patch it. Someone may find a workaround but im not sure of the efficacy of getting that to work with such a heavily network integrated game. They can implement a patch that allows off-line play.
Good link, I'll try using that in my quest for a refund. Round 1: EA support person said the servers were fine and sent me instructions to restart my router. Nope, sorry, pretty sure that's not going to help your servers not to corrupt the game sessions
no. the fuck we do. DONT BUY THIS SHIT!

Getting my copy tomorrow morning, glad I waited a bit instead of grabbing it early and VPNing it. Get those early tech issues sorted.

I think I've read a few posts along these lines.EA-DF said:I like to think of this game as an MMO. You can only play MMOs online so I’m okay with this!
Read that one too, phrased barely more subtly.EA-China said:Don’t get a refund so soon, you should give EA another chance!
yeah, erh... or... you know, hold him accountable?Oh... my...
He broke a promise! Hang him!
Probably still gonna be down, dude. Everybody's coming home Friday to play... and the servers are still down today for most people afaik.
Or you know he goes to a scene release website/forum.

Are we sure that this spokeperson wasn't a chinese spammer? An EA spokesperson has denied these claims saying, “We would never stoop so low as to hire Chinese spammers to post positive spin about SimCity’s always online requirement. There is no reason to since the always online requirement is a good thing.”

they need to shut off DRM as thats a HUGE resource hogHave you guys seen this? Their solution is now to deactivate features to make the game playable.

Funny because some of those things were probably there in the first place to justify the always online stuff.
They're not sorted out, you're wasting your money.
