Microsoft has the worst and most confusing login system I've seen.

I created a new gmail address, then signed up for a new Live account using this address as my login name, then I logged into live.com using this new Live account (gmail address and Live password), and it does log me in, but it says my gametag is SpongyLobster9. I did not choose that name.

I managed to get AC3 for this account, I think, but I can't log into this account on my console. Download profile is the option I should choose, right? Or is a Live account not the same as an Xbox Live account?

Yeah you download the gamertag enter the sign in details and you should be good to go.

It's not working for me, I have both a 360 Chinese account and a Chinese hotmail account, can download the game for 0 points on the Xbox.com site but it won't show up in my active downloads or download history?

Haven't turned on the Xbox 360 to play a game in over a year. But the 360 is pretty damn amazing. AC3 was downloading, quite slow, but it was at 29% with Wi-Fi adapter (Jasper here). But I accidently pressed cancel. I was like "FUCCCCCCCCk!". Didn't ask for confirmation or anything! Well, have to start downloading again! This time I plugged in a ethernet cable, console automatically switches to wired connection, awesome! And what do I see? AC3 at 29%! MS did a great job with 360's OS, that's for sure!

Xbox Live does give you a new gamertag.

You can change the name of the gamertag for free, only once.

New system instead of making your own name right off apparently...

Yep just checked the data and its currupted.

Try downloading it again. I booted it up earlier and it worked perfectly. Picked up my save from where I left off and allowed me to buy some DLC.
