Should Nintendo just cancel Game & Wario for other regions?

So according to the Emily Rogers girl, Game & Wario only sold 22,491 units in its first week in Japan which apparently isn't good at all. So should Nintendo, given their goal of actually trying to make a profit this year, just go ahead and ditch their plans of bringing it to the west?

At least with games like Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Starfy DS, the loyal Nintendo base wanted those games even if no one else did. But does ANYONE want Game & Wario? I forgot the game existed at least three times in the past year. (Also, the game has a tendency to ruin any Nintendo Direct it appears in from being so much more boring than everything that comes before and after it.)

I just see no reason to localize and further distribute something that's almost assuredly gonna lose Nintendo (more) money and is also something no one really wants to play anyway. What do you guys think?

Even if Nintendo can't make money off it, they should still release it for publicity reasons because it makes their library look bigger. Think of the money the game loses as advertising costs for the Wii U console.

Ah yes, not releasing games, the true gate to success.

Im embarrassed that you need an actual response, but a game selling goodor bad in Japan has zero to do with how well it does anywhere else in the world. Plus, I had no idea you where the arbiter of whether people want to play something or not.

I can understand your doom and gloom for this game even if performance in one region has little to do with the rest of the world, but generalizing that no one will enjoy it and it is a pointless release is just silly.

Of course it should come out. This game won't take a third of the resources of a fire emblem or animal crossing.

Screw that release it here.
But perhaps sell at a lower initial price to spur more sales such as 39.99 like they did with rhythm heaven on wii (that's what it was right?)

The big question is why Nintendo ever even developed this game in the first place. Why not spend the resources doing something... good?

But yeah, in any case, no, they should bring it over to the west. The Wii U really need more games.

I'd like to play it. Will I pay $60 for it? Sorry, but no. It's probably not a good business decision to release it here in the U.S. While Nintendo definitely needs more games on the shelves, I don't see this particular one helping at all. Maybe it's the branding. If it was called WarioWare: Games of Hunger, they'd probably squeak out a few buys. I'd say hope for an eShop only release, but Nintendo doesn't seem to operate like that - at least not yet.

Ummm. They can spend 0 on marketing and still recoup the loss by releasing it considering how little translation is needed. even a digital only release might suffice.

Maybe people are just sick of lame party mini game collections?

"the Emily Rogers girl"

come on :lol

on topic, no, the costs of localization are probably minimal and Nintendo is very conservative with their shipments, probably too conservative.

In case people want to know where the Game and Wario sales number is coming from.

This is for the game's first week. Many of the games below it have been released for multiple weeks.

You may want to add this to the OP.

They should just go ahead and cancel the Wii U.

Is this gonna be a thing in every Wii U related thread from now on?
I'm interested in the system but seems like most Wii U related threads are reduced to jokes and drive-by remarks that add absolutely nothing to the discussion.

Good marketing and it will be fine. The Wario character has that zany appeal that is very appealing to people. Problem is, a Nintendo's overall promotion of Wii U and it's games has been strangely low key.

Wow, GAF should apply for positions at Nintendo. The rejection letters would be hilarious. Cancelling one of the only upcoming first party exclusives for a console that's struggling just because it didn't sell well in one region?

Not relasing a finished game sounds like a great plan.

I very much doubt that it needs much for a game like this to be profitable, so, what would be the point?

A shame it bombed, it actually looks pretty fun.

They should lower the price for other regions. Sell it for $20.
