utorrent is bloated and I haven't been using a torrent program for a long time. Which is the best one?

Why not download an older version of uTorrent? 1.6.1 is well regarded, and lightweight to boot.

If you're a Mac user, Transmission is the way to go.

vuze.......WAIT before you laugh

PROTIP: choose classic UI on install (removes all of the modern crap)

I love transmission on mac. Always been a user of utorrent on windows but transmission has this great option that i can make labels and the torrents can be downloaded to that folder. Maybe this option is on utorrent now too but this was not the case before.

I linked a windows port of transmission that I have been using for about one year and never had any problem with. I love its minimalist look compared to most torrent clients:

I don't mind uTorrent. I've been using their product for years without paying a cent. The least I can do is put up with a couple of ads.

This is possible in μTorrent too.

http://www.qbittorrent.org/ for me.

Small like UTorrent, but open source. Easy to configure. Fast speeds

I heard the Transmission port to Windows kinda suck and I could not get good speeds with Deluge out of the box...

Console like interfaces seem pretty cool, but a torrent client uses so little recouces anyway

Does Transmission consolidate unused files like uTorrent does these days?

I haven't used it for years, but when I did and I was downloading something with multiple files, when finished, it would have what I wanted and then usually whatever files were next to it for whatever reason. As far as I am aware uTorrent stores these parts in a seperate file rather than having just broken versions of the files themselves.

If that makes any sense, lol.

I didn't. The preferences menu is so jam-packed that I likely didn't notice it. Perhaps I'll try upgrading then.

To be fair it's not exactly easy to find, it's in the Advanced options and it's called offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled, set it to false to turn them off.

How is utorrent bloated? Maybe I don't know what bloated means but utorrent is just one .exe file smaller than 1MB and it loads pretty fast. And who cares if it has ads when it's a free program and you can turn them off?

Thanks! Had no clue I could do this. Now I have uTorrent with no ads :)

Agreed ... very little wrong with Utorrent considering its pricepoint!

I did a bit of research on all alternatives and decided to stick with the current version of utorrent for now. Doesn't seem to be a great alternative yet.

Well the last version I used (I know we're going back quite some time...) was less than 100 kilobytes.

I use uTorrent 1.8.2, does a good job IMO. There are so many older versions that I don't really know which one to use. I hated the new one however.
