There's Korean writing in Surgery Simulator...and has nothing to do with Half-Life.

I have made NO changes to my settings and my profile or steam community stuff logged in or out is in Korean for me????

I think this pointing to the release schedule for hl3. Its launching on Saturn first, then rolling out on other planets.

Never mind I was able to switch it back to English after finding the language bit at the top.

I swear tho I did nothing to change it over, just started happening.

Have anyone... checked Surgery Simulator to see if it's real and not a texture mod made by some guy? =/

I'm in it now, unless it's an object you get on your desk for completing later surgeries I see absolutely nothing shaped like what's in the screenshot on the whole desk.

Aren't the point of ARGs that they take place in an Alternate Reality that is similar to ours? The original mantra of the ARG was 'This is not a game' which kind of can't happen if the 'ARG' takes place explicitly inside of a game.

Ilovebees was an ARG about a game, but took place outside of the game and in the 'real world'. These Valve ARGs don't. It's always bugged me.

Yeah the term Alternate Reality Game has been kind of spread across a lot of things like transmedia, viral marketing, and chaotic fiction campaigns. The problem is too many people tend to group Alternate Reality Games together with being marketing, when really there are a ton of campaigns that just run on their own, and provide a really fascinating storytelling platform. Unfortunately the ARG's that market things tend to get more exposure, causing the perception to shift towards that.

They let you become a part of the story, in your everyday routine.

The Potato sack had some limited real world events, but the term ARG is still spread pretty thin.

So much hype.

If I understand all this correctly..

- First came a patch update for localization (Including Korean)
- Then Team Fortress 2 got a Surgery Simulator update with this on the bottom of an object. Are there any other unusual changes // recent updates to their games? Was anything else relevant found in this game? Additionally, are we certain there are no changes to Half-Life 2 except for the localization? (Or was it just Surgery Sim. that was updated? If so, how does that have anything to do with Valve?)

Left for Dead 3 set in Korea sounds surprisingly realistic. I do think it would be hilarious if Valve announced Half Life 3 but as an exclusive for the Sega Saturn. Seriously not even a PC release. Just the Sega Saturn.

Nice try, but I don't think HL-fans are desperate enough to believe THAT.

Valve really has to bring the house down with HL3. The preceding titles are widely held to be the best games ever made. It has to be epic, and fitting with the story-behind-the-story theme. If it turns out that the road to HL3 reveal begins in Surgery Simulator, and someone just happened on the detail... Can you imagine how many other games would be absolutely scoured for other clues?

Also, what... is going on there? Is this from a real newscast?

Looks like someone on the steam forums has a screenshot of the object uploaded to the steam community. It could still be a shopped texture, but at least it's evident that the screenshot itself wasn't tampred:

You have to beat the TF2 DLC in order to get the medic figurine on your desk.

What the fuck is going on.

Imagine one day nonchalantly opening Steam, you notice the Summer Sale has started, you watch the featured games scroll by, then, Half Life 3, $59.99, right there, in front of you, no hype, no information, just HL3 released. The internet would break.

Let's look at this realistically. Here are the possible scenarios.
1. It's a coincidence. The same week HL2 updates itself into full Korean (according to Valve, an unintended consequence), somebody finds a teaser puzzle from the Surgeon Simulator devs that also happens to include Korean text.
2. A Valve ARG (for something that ISN'T Half-Life 3) is revealed through a Half-Life 2 update. Considering Valve's history with people mistaking their previous teasers for HL3 promos, this would be almost cruel.
3. The Surgeon Simulator devs see the hype around the Korean text update, and add the teaser into the game, as a fun hoax.
4. Half Life 3 is coming, and it's coming soon.
