Official: Xbox One in only 13 markets in '13; Free game for delayed preorderers

But his point was that Sony is now a damaged brand. I would argue that in the game space, they're picking up steam while Microsoft is losing it.

Outside if the game space, Sony may be damaged but it's not like Microsoft is kicking loads of ass. Windows Phone, Surface, and Windows 8 are all selling well below expectations.

Maybe he should rethink his comment.
Pre-orders and launch frenzy mean absolutely nothing. Give it at least 6 months after launch to make any kind of reviews of the situation.

X1 delay means MS will not reach total X360 numbers ever. Same situation as Nintendo has with WiiU vs Wii. PS4 might get to 50-100 million consoles sold but overall this will be serious trouble for the whole industry, especially for bloated AAA market. Crash is one step closer again.

er, how? Ps3 preorders came off of the back of the god damn ps2, what are you talking about?
$599? Ever heard of that?

I can't tell if this is a joke or not.

I'm serious. I'm sure there are many people who have not preordered the Xbone yet in those countries, but now when they go to preorder they'll just be told that it'll be coming in 2014, which they will think was the launch date the whole time. When they do that, they'll be greeted with a nice surprise of a free game with their launch console.

Not everyone is as informed as we are here on GAF.

EDIT: NVM just noticed it only applies for people who preordered before today. If MS was smart they would extend this to all preorders until launch for people in the delayed countries.

maybe on gaf where innovative features have been met with back lash . But out in the wild a lot of people like Kinect , over 20m people liked it enough to buy it for $100-$150 .

Sony's brand Is weakened across all its product line . across the whole world the ps4 is releasing to a less receptive public than the ps3 had to deal with.

Sony's brand is so weak that they sold more PS3's than MS sold 360's... GG

I don't know what the hell tangent you're on, so I'll just stare at the window at this funny cat I can see.

Yay funny cat! Run!

Then Im sure those people will be happy to buy it again for $499!

Yes the PS brand isn't as big as it once was. But I'm not saying that again. I'm saying in Europe the PS brand is bigger and people were willing to buy it over the 360 despite Sonys best efforts to mess it up. And why they won't be so willing to jump in with the XB1 so easily especially as MS have their backs against a brick wall with their competition in a better position this gen to really take home the prize.

How does CBOAT know all this? I can't believe how many times he's been spot on. Surely he can't just be a developer?

My guess cboat isn't just one person. The person who operates cboat's username probably has several microsoft connections thus harder for MS to pinpoint the leak.

They have the main European countries (sales wise) covered so it is not a disaster in Europe. Those being UK and Germany.

What would be a concern is a scenario where, despite concentrating on fewer countries, MS still has less XBO stock than PS4's in all those priority countries.

It's a great plan, they should implement it everywhere. Why should only these countries get the better deal?

Except of course the better online features , Kinect , more exclusive launch games , virtualy silent operation and so on.

The xbox one has a lot of things going for it , its not as lop sided as people like to say
Out of curiousity, which online features are said be better on Xbox One?

Sure, it's a good thing, but we don't know anything about the ps4 noise levels.
The original 360 made as much noise if not even more than the original ps3. It's a ridiculous point to be making before we even see both consoles in action.
Yeah, if its used as an arguement that its more silent than the PS4, and we dont know how silent/loud the PS4 is, then its too early to say anything about that indeed.

I live in England and I'm not getting an Xbone, so this is not my concern but are MS utterly mad?
Brazil is a generation at least behind the rest of the world, Spain has no money, nor does Italy right now.
Why skip Sweden, Netherlands and Norway who would by this and do have money?! Then again MS will probably make a 180 next week...

While it's unfortunate to the fans in the regions where the console is delayed, if you are having trouble manufacturing enough units for launch, it makes sense for MS to cut the small markets. I think the greater potential problem here though, is that even after cutting these smaller markets, they still don't have enough units for their major markets.

Man, living in a tier 2 country sucks. Is this a revenge for us always topping the lists for positive stuff? "You may be the happiest nation, but we sure aren't gonna give you an Xbox One!".

Youth unemployment is sky high in Spain so the kids have lots of free time to play games.

The free game pack in doesn't seem like such a steal when you realise that you probably can't choose which game it is and that you'd be able to purchase the console and game of your choice in the territories it released in earlier for cheaper. Heck there'll probably be bundles with a couple of games in released in tier 1 countries for the same price as launch hardware elsewhere. Oh well, all about that perceived freebie value!

He/She's someone who works in the Xbox division at MSFT. How high up, no one knows? Probably Senior Dev Manager or something. Perhaps Senior PM based on knowledge of marketing and operations details.

Doesn't make any difference to me personally as they've not managed to convince me that I need one yet.

I wonder how it will affect third party developers though if they're launching a game on the current gen, maybe PS4 and Xbox One but then have to launch it maybe months later in other regions on the Xbox One? I wonder if some may see it as not being worth it due to the delay as they'll be launching to a limited market anyway?

Bold: Brasil was a generation behind the rest of the world... not anymore.

All consoles were launched here... the next-gen will be at Day One here... most games got localizations (not only subs but dubs too)... all releases here are inline with the US dates. GFK is tracking games sales here too.

The price of the consoles/games still is a big issue but that is getting better fast too (most releases are priced at $65 today... before new releases were over $90).

The 2011 figures shows over 3.1 million current gen consoles sold here (PS3 + 360 + Wii).

Buying the console in germany to play in The Netherlands might even be tricky, wonder whether xbox live would even be usable then

Well it would be great to just give everyone free games, but MS probably wants to minimize costs as much as they can without losing too much consumer goodwill. These countries should get the better deal because they are getting the raw deal of waiting until 2014 for their consoles when it was originally supposed to come out in 2013.

Sony are working at their own pace, and have done so since the PS Meeting in February, not sure why people continue to wonder how they will react in response to Microsoft. It's quite clear it's the other way round, with the latter making reactionary decisions to both customer backlash and Sony momentum

I'm not suggesting Sony will react to anything, just that we don't yet know their full country list or volumes.

If this is due to manufacturing issues, it is critical for MS to try and address that quickly, otherwise they could have slow supply throughout 2014.

To be fair, I don't think I'd put this particularly high on the list of things they've bungled, but it's just that they keep adding to the list...

I'm not sure I'd say it's a minor thing; it's symptomatic of a much more serious problem, which is that they've managed to design a system that is both weaker and more difficult to manufacture than Sony's. I don't know if that's a side-effect of being rushed, or what, but it's a pretty major fuckup however you cut it.

Looking on the positive side, at least they could plan a 1-2 boost in 2014 for the envitable dip in sales they're going to see.

Launch in Tier 2 countries with a Titanfall bundle April 2014

Launch in Tier 3 countries & price cut $100 or $150 Kinectless bundle with Halo 5 bundle in September 2014

True, and I was commenting in a more general sense. But I was getting at the fact that Sony are working to their own standards and so we shouldn't assume that they'll be treating the launch in the same staggered, and wholly splintered, way that Microsoft are doing. To predict Sony's strategy it's wiser to look back to their earlier hardware launches rather than what Microsoft are doing.
