Yeah but you aren't going to be using your in-game team for that kind of thing anyway. If you want a starter because it's competitively viable just trade for it after you finish the game.

On the other hand, I hope the starters receive Mewtwo-like Mega evolutions- I don't mean two megas, just megas that basically look like different Pokemon evos, rather than the power up/"add more things on top" style of most standard mega evolutions.

Those are final forms? I thought they were just different depictions of the 2nd form. They all look cool if I think of it in the latter way.

You are right, most of in-game teams are useless for post-game challenges, but ditching the starter is kind awful imo, unless they are terrible (battle-wise) like the Unova ones. The only time I ever did that to a starter was in Gen V... in all of my various playthroughs.
