Hmm, so this is the confirmed [either officially, by pixel counting or by leak] resolutions for XB1 launch games so far? Italicized exclusives.

Battlefield 4 - 720p
Call of Duty: Ghosts - 720p
FIFA 14 - 1080p
Forza Motorsport 5 - 1080p
Killer Instinct - 720p
LocoCycle - 1080p
NBA 2K14 - 1080p
Powerstar Golf - 720p
Ryse - 900p
Zoo Tycoon - 1080p

I'm curious what the resolutions are for other launch games where developers have been keeping quiet and/or haven't publicly shown the XB1 builds: Need for Speed: Rivals and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

If BF4 is 720p i'd assume NFS, a game using the same engine, would be the same?

Do we know what rendering solutions these games use? Frostbite is deferred rendering right? So is the cod ghosts engine...and forza is forward rendering...are the EA sports games forward rendering too? I heard it was deferred rendering an EsRAM that wasn't playing nice with 1080p? Wondering if there is maybe truth to it?

Sorry if this has been answered before but, WTF is going on with this, and how is it something that is unrelated to the XBONE 720/Tech issues discussed in this thread?

Just for my own curiosity: do u have any comparison vids? I've always been curious about this

I recall Splinter Cell being one of the games where developers really went out of their way to push it on the Xbox, with better shadows and I think maybe some cool fabric stuff? I found this comparison video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkHoDEh0FWc

BTW I'm not in any way suggesting that the gap between the PS4 and Xbox One will be as massive as that between PS2 and Xbox, I'm just speculating whether the gap between PS4 and Xbox One may manifest in not only FPS and resolution but also in any sort of graphical feature noticeable to the average joe gamer (ie. the xbox version of a game doesn't have x at all, but the ps4 does).

I can't even fathom that. The system looks like a fucking VCR in size. How can it cave ala RROD? I thought the size was a major countermeasure.

I've seen it in person and it doesn't look as big as evrone makes it out to be . its not a small device, but its not a massive one either

So, let's do a Xbox One recount here...

  • Killer Instinct (1st party exclusive) - 720p
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts (CoD series formerly preferred for Xbox 360) - 720p
  • Battlefield 4 (supposedly excels on DirectX) - 720p
  • Ryse (1st party exclusive) - 900p
  • Dead Rising 3 (1st party exclusive) - somewhere between 720p and 900p

Maybe it's just to me, but isn't it immoral to keep potentially big technical news from consumers after the whole RRoD debacle?

Insiders really should spill the beans now and save people spending 500 bones on what might be fundamentally broken tech.

That's just my opinion though...
Immoral? I agree yes, but it's not up to insiders to risk their skin and careers by revealing this. Also if you suspect the product could be shoddy, be smart about it and don't buy it at launch.

agreed. If it's potentially on the scale of RRoD, it seems wrong to not tell people now...
If in some way shape or form releasing this info at this time would possibly get him/her found out and thus get into a shitload of problems, I think that's more than enough reason not to say any more at this time.

We know plenty already and at this point, there's still time to cancel your preorder and wait for a safe time to decide to buy the system or not.

We seriously need NeoGAF TV channel which shows the hotest topics and the comments on it like when movie cridets roll out.

Simple, part of the Xbox team wanted exactly that, but other divisions within Microsoft saw all the love being given towards the Xbox and wanted their input on what Microsofts new living room hardware would be and offer them and all got their oars in, infighting ensued and the result is a console designed by committee.

The end result is gonna be a console no division at Microsoft is ultimately happy with, not that anyone (other than CBOAT) will ever actually come out and say this though ;)

Conjecture BTW, if that's not blindingly obvious :p
Yep, sounds not too unlikely. I hope a couple of frustrated or sacked employees will leak some hot information about the Xbone's development history in the wake of the console's release. One can only imagine all the drama going on behind the scenes at MS.

IS adam sessler associated with xbox in some way? or is he trying to hold his reservations until something comes to public light? Everything I have seen seems like maybe he knows something about the xbox and appears to be pro Xbox One.

This is what is really ticking me off. It's almost as if the big sites have become just an extension of the big guys PR teams.

Even by the laughable stands of modern journalism, game journalists are embarrassing. For the most part, they're just PR grubbing for swag bags, attention, and future job opportunities at the companies they cover. The insiders here at GAF are more reliable and trustworthy than any big names for the most part.

i don't see this happening...but...software problems due many changes last months in the system kernel + rushed launch? for sure..

some months ahead and they'll solve all this problems

No. You can force 1080 on otherwise native 720p games in many cases.
Doesn't the game have to support it? I remember that being an issue early in the generation for people with 1080i TVs. Games that didn't support 1080i would run in 480p.

To clarify, I don't think CBOAT specifically confirmed significant tech issues. Bish hinted at it and CBOAT said something cryptic like that's not the issue (regarding resolutions, I believe) and dropped the wait for launch bomb, suggesting something isn't going right.

Have they ever? This is a serious question. I don't even remember Vista crashing like mad and that started out like the stuff of nightmares.

Yes, they have. Windows ME was God-awful. My old Compaq Presario desktop (64MB RAM, 30GB HDD) would lock-up multiple times a day because of it. Windows 98 ran flawlessly on it.

Adam finally realized that Xbox Live isn't actually free, and that his price comparison of $500 for the Xbone and $460 for a PS4 and PS+ was inaccurate?

Though I love this community so much, I hate it just as much! This is not how I saw myself spending this weekend. The shit that gets served here every single day is like... cocaine!

Same. Half of the console is literally a fan. A whole 50%...is a fan.

The way they built it in there, it's actually quite comical.

The 360 was rock solid when it came to crashes. Sure it happened from time to time, mostly in online games. But not even close to the amount that it would happen on PS3 for instance.

Then again, I hated Windows so much that I jumped over to another OS entirely and after many years, they couldn't even pay me money to go back.
The One seems to be running on 3 different OSes from what I've read, so the possibility for fuckups is certainly a lot higher than the 360, especially when at least one of them is based on Windows. :-/
Again, if all that info from months back still is correct.
