DF/JF: Battlefield 4 PS4 vs XB1 videos/screens (900p PS4, 720p XB1)

Ultimately, we have to screencap power lines in the background to find distinguishing features between the two. This video was expected to show clear and more direct differences. It doesn't. Of course, the PS4 is mathematically more impressive, but the numbers don't really have the expected impact when contrasted with the XO version. In the end, both sets of gamers will be happy.

Enough of this doom and gloom from now on.

Coming from a PC guy, I think it's fairly obvious the PS4 is the superior version.

+It's 900p opposed to 720p
+It has Ambient Occlusion which appears to be missing from the One version.
+Even with the resolution difference, it constantly seems to maintain a higher frame rate than the One version.

Now don't get me wrong, the One version doesn't look bad, but as people have mentioned it looks like it's sharpened and the colours look way off.

I think what matters is, whatever system you get the game on it's gonna look half decent.

I guess I'm just confused by a lot of the responses in this thread. If the PC version is the superior version that everyone is claiming, and the PS4 version looks much closer to the PC version, than why are people saying the XO version is the better looking between the two consoles? I feel like everyone's prejudices are running amuck; If people clearly like the distorted colors and contrast of the XO version, then those same people shouldn't be saying the PC version still looks the best.

It's too late now since we've stared at these pictures for almost an hour now, but I wish they were presented without labels, because I'd imagine then people would say they like the PS4/PC versions, or the XO version, and not the truly bizarre hybrid of XO/PC version that makes little to no sense.

lol, so XB1 is also better than PC, because it's built with higher contrast? :D

j/k. I don't like the more colorful XB1 build and would reduce it on my TV. PS4 looks more identical with PC and so more realistic.

They really messed this up.

The Gamma and Brightness make the Xbox One pop...while making the PS4 look washed out.

People are reacting like they would to an over saturated TV at the stores... All while defeating the purpose of the video. PS4 higher resolution, Ambient Shadows, better frame rate, less jaggies.

>.> I can't blame some reactions. This was horribly done. It's obvious that the PS4 hasn't be properly calibrated.

My god its like ps3 vs 360 all over again.

PS4 has less jaggies
X1 has better texture detail (check out the hair on the black guys head, his hair is clealy more detailed in the x1 version)
More vibrant colours on the X1 (not and advantage, becuase everyone will have there tv's calibrated properly)

I think the PS4 is the victor here because jaggies were one of my biggest woes this gen.Though when you take into account the better looking textures of the X1, the PS4 advantage is even less of an advantage the 360 had over some PS3 games, such as fallout 3 and RDR.

Curiously, the top end is also affected, causing the image to appear distinctly washed out, as if set to limited range. This is particularly evident on PS4, which is kept free of a comparable black push to Microsoft's platform to compensate. Right now there's every possibility that it could be a capture situation, but it is worth noting that we saw no such issue on our PC captures and after returning to base, the same equipment produced a perfectly balanced picture on our PlayStation 3.

The amount of work going into convincing Xbox fans not to be happy is ridiculous. Everyone should be happy with their version of choice.

FFS, the XB1 version doesn't have "more detail" it has a nasty sharpening filter which actually adds noise. The PS4 and PC versions look much smoother and don't have crushed black levels.

Yep, that's a sharpening filter. The PS4 version is nearly identical to the PC.

How does the XB1 look sharper than PC? lol

Honestly though, to me it looks weird. Like sharpness turned all the way on a TV. Besides the softness, I think the PS4 looks better. PC of course is gorgeous

Will the difference in details be noticeable to public?
Jaggies yeah, overpowering contrast at some times as well, but the Xbox version does pop. All of that is noticeable I think, but depends upon individual sensitivities.

As somebody who hates jaggies I noticed the aliasing right away, but I do prefer some of the high contrast images, except when its too much.

Both console version, in the scene with the helicopter and the building collapsing, have some really unpleasant looking DoF.

In this thread people say anything to justify spending a $100 more despite factual numbers in the article.

Holy sit - I've got day one editions coming for both but to me it looks better on XO. I don't know play factual numbers on articles, and I don't care if its done by voodoo and duct tape, I'm buying the BF4 version I think looks and runs better.

EA event, the on-site network was non-functional, resulting in campaign-only XO gameplay and an early finish to the session. These issues were fully resolved for day two, allowing us to spend several hours testing multiplayer on the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

On-site network down? WHAT A COINCIDENCE!

Neither next gen version looks very good to me. It's either the jaggy version or the blurry version.

I am glad DICE committed to 60fps (or targeting it at least). I'm wondering if they'll drop to 30 for future BF titles though.

The fact that we have to zoom in and fiddle with lighting to try and make out a difference shows what some have already said: virtually no difference between consoles. Slightly better on PS4. Those power lines on XB1 look brutal, but besides I couldn't tell you which one looked better.

They both look pretty good to my eyes.
The PS4 obviously has more grunt to work with however MS is doing something which is helping narrow their deficit.
Either way, I'm just glad that there isnt a huge disparity between the two, and gamers on both systems can be reasonably happy.

Someone explain this.

Yeah i noticed the difference in the advertising image when watching the video, thought it was weird.

As far as the color stuff, people's preferences on color saturation is a lot more subjective than resolution. Personally i find the black crush annoying but don't mind the color pop as long as it doesn't go too red. I hate overly red skin tones, and cringe every time i watch a movie at my buddy's place on his uncalibrated older LCD compared to my Panny plasma.

In addition to the oil rig stuff, I thought the resolution differences were more spottable in the scene where they were fighting on the yellow scaffolding and getting onto the boat, but I'm not hype-sensitive to jaggies.

Dat Crusher Black...

Seriously people look at that, PS4 is lot closer to PC version than Xbox because of those crusher black on Xbox. Unless you guys think that Xbox version looks better than PC...

Look at that, you cannot even the details on the gun on Xbox.

Yep that is what make this even more funny .
People say the game pop more or look better without noticing how much detail is missing .

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
For people who like the Xbone sharpening, simply use your TV's sharpen on your PS4 and... profit?
It is incredible to me that someone decided to add that shitty sharpening through game software when every single TV made in last 20 years has that option for those who want it. Now people who don't want it have no option to disable it.

Despite pushing ~50% more pixels, that ~40% difference in frame-rate as well;

CANT EVEN SEE THE FUCKING GUN HERE.

This is kind of the best example difference of the two, actually. Boosted contrast to make up for some glaring faults like lower resolution and slightly worse framerate. In the end I suspect the PS4 version will be superior mainly because of framerate.

Needless to say, I'm kinda super impressed with both of the visuals seen in both games in single player.

The night time level on the water looks amazing!

Guys the DF folks did the blacks on purpose

Watching the JackFrags video of the same X1 SP footage and the blacks are not CLOSE to being as crushed as the DF video.

The difference this causes is very apparent. I am trying to take screens now to show.

The greatest thing about Xbox One footage is I don't have to set my youtube player to 1080p. I'm going to save a lot of bandwidth over the next 6 years.
