Anyone else psyched for the Pillars of the Earth mini-series?

Did anyone watch the finale? As I understand it, last night was supposed to be a 2 hour finale. But Netflix only has episode 7 up. Somehow this show fell into some sort of abyss. This is amazingly little written about it online.

i read on the facebook page starz/netflix had a deal to air episode 8 next saturday, however netflix is working to push it through earlier. honestly I can't see a reason starz would care...

I actually just watched the last 5 episodes. I got to say I'm hooked. The first episode was quite dull but after I finished episode 2.. HOOOOLY CRAP. When does this air? Every Friday? Any idea how many episodes are going to be in the mini series?

I suppose now that I'm caught up it's back to A Feast for Crows. AWESOMENESS OVERLOAD.

I plan to watch the series once I have the pleasure of reading through the novel...I just wish I had time to read it. :-(
Are there any plans in making the second book into a mini-series as well?

They better :( I want to watch episode 8 already!

Question for those of you that have read the book: How far has the series gone into the book Pillars of the Earth. If I read the book now, would season 2 of the tv show be spoiled for me? Or will season 2 be World Without End?

Man for everyone that says they wish there was more good shows on TV, you all need to do your part and watch this shit. Its very good. Very very good!

The fact that this hasnt even made two pages yet is disappointing to say the least.

The first episode wasnt great, and it even started off feeling like a cheap knock off of what I feel Game of Thrones will be like, but after the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth episode.....Holy Shit!

I think the production values are quite good, but honestly, it just isn't very interesting (and I love these types of settings). I'll watch it, but it won't be a BR purchase like it should be for me.

I get the impression that the source material isn't exactly the best, either.

Well, this is a miniseries, so while there's discussion of bringing World Without End to screen there's really nothing else slated after this. The 8 episodes (i've only seen seven since i'm using netflix..boo) cover the entire storyline of the book, although there are some changes to the plot along the way.

On a side note, I'm about 350 pages into World Without End, and while it feels a bit like medieval porn, it's pretty good, especially if you dug the first book, which I did.

EDIT: here's the facebook page if anyone is interested...http://www.facebook.com/pillars.starz

My mom is a GIANT fan of Pillars of the Earth. She keeps recommending it to me. I'll have to check it out.

it's ok, you're all right now
Just saw the first two episodes. I'm really loving it so far. Shame this thread is so dead.

edit: The quarry! :D

Watched until Episode 8. I know this show is not perfect but I like it. However I feel like the story is moving at a really fast pace but I guess it is a mini-series.

How many episodes are there in Season 1?

Pretty sure it's just an 8 episode mini-series.

Ditto. As evidenced by my previous post, I thought it was a season finale but when I got to the last 20 minutes or so, I realized too much crazy stuff was happening and I looked at the DVR description again and noticed it said 'series finale'. So sad. I haven't enjoyed a series this much since Rome. (which also ended way too soon)

Am I the only one who's 360 netflix screen freezes right after it says it has determined your video quality but right before it starts the show?

Its been doing it for two days now, and only on this show, only on this episode. Its flat out fucking maddening and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm really surprised people have strong feelings towards the show. I'm sure the book is good, but the show was just too disjointed. Many of the actors were just awful, and the large jumps in time were very jarring, especially since they didn't change actors.

^ Agreed. The "witch" mom was particularly bad.

Interesting, that happened to me, too. I had to watch the finale on my computer.

I watched 5 or 6 episodes today taking me through to the end. I must say that I loved a great deal of the series. There was something about Jack's face that just rubbed me the wrong way through it all.

I thought that Ian McShane did very well in his role. Though the character was perplexing. He acts counter to the ideals of his office, but he still asks god for favor. I liked the way that Wolsey was portrayed in The Tudors in that he knew he was acting in his own interests and knew that basically his beliefs were a sham. As far as I can remember there weren't any scenes of self flagellation in The Tudors.

Maybe it's because I'm eager for Game of Thrones to get here and I'm looking for other medieval shows, but I'd definitely recommend giving this one a watch.

I haven't been this sad when a show ended in a long ass time. I loved everything about this show.
Seriously, what a great show. Can't wait to pick it up on Blu-Ray. I also went out and bought the book (I guess there is a sequel too? Maybe that gets made into a series like this if the ratings did well enough)

I just love that final shot, pulling back to show that even though humankind can act pretty fucked up at times, working together towards a singular goal can produce awesome results.

i've watched 6 of the 8 episodes, and i really like the show as well. The characters lack a bit of depth, and it's somewhat juvenile in that regard, but i still really like it overall. McShane isn't nearly as good in this role as he is in Deadwood, but i still enjoy him on screen. the series runs at a brisk pace which isn't necessarily a bad thing; I think some of the HBO series can get a little slow at times despite their awesomeness (deadwood and even Rome). Pacing is a big deal for me, which is one reason why i love Spartacus so much.

Bamp.

Finally got around to watching the last 5 eps in a marathon. Good series and well worth the watch. Stars has put out some damn good stuff.
