Cyberpunk 2077 5-hour Free Trial Coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 28

Been always wanting to try it because I love cyberpunk games but the initial release really made me sour toward it, and I’ve read that the open world, while pretty, is empty with nothing really to do. Has there been changes or is this still the case?

The aren't mini games or anything like that but the crowds can be pretty dynamic. I dunno, it depends what you want. The detail astonishes me. I can spend 10 mins zooming in on magazine covers and watching ad billboards change.

You'd think everyone would have played it by this point.

Every time I've looked into buying the game there's some reason not to.
At launch it was shit on consoles, which was a dealbreaker
But they promised to eventually release a big next gen update, so it made sense to wait for that
Once we got that, they kept improving and adding stuff with the updates: You read headlines like "the upcoming patch will fix and/or improve this and that and completely revamp several mechanics",so it made sense to wait for that
Then the DLC was coming and it was going to be in the middle of the game so it made sense to wait for that and play it as a sort of "complete" seamless experience.
Then there was that big upcoming 2.1 update which was reportedly going to be the last major update, so it made sense to wait for that.

At this point I've waited so long I'm just going to wait for a solid sale of the base game + DLC.

It wouldn't be as effective. The first 4 - 5 hours is where the budget went.
The backbone of the story is your relationship with Johnny and how it evolves over the course of the game. The backbone of the gameplay is developing your own combat loop by specialising in a particular set of skills and Cyberware. None of these things are covered in the first 4-5 hours.

The money is in the front end. They know what they're doing.

Played this for the first time after the 2.0 release and the game is incredible. Played on PS5. It’s tough for me to stay with a game till completion and with this I just kept wanting more. Purchasing Phantom Liberty now.

Interactivity in the open world is non existent. The world is pretty dead in general as there is no reactivity or mini-games or pretty much anything. NPC reactions are quite a bit worse vs say GTA V on Xbox 360 or PS3. There are now police chases and vehicular combat so there is that.

It’s such a shame that CDPR built such a great Cyberpunk city in Nightcity with jack shit to do there. I was hoping that a sequel would correct it Yakuza series style (iterating on the same locale) since they already had the basis done, but that’s out of the window with the engine change to Unreal 5.

All that said, Cyberpunk is a pretty great Action Adventure RPG Lite. It has a pretty darn good story (can be a bit disjointed due to Open World though), interesting set of characters, amazing locales and graphics, good combat and more.

So while (IMO) it’s a failure as far as RPGs go, it’s a definite success (after patches and expansion) at action adventure genre. Think of it more in the vein of Watch Dogs or AC Odyssey but better and you will enjoy it.
