EA Patent Could Lead to More Reliable Video Game Servers

Electronic Arts has now filed a patent on a system for testing these servers during live online play that could see servers becoming more reliable. The patent works by creating a list of recent player connections to a server and using these connections as a recurrent neural network to test the reliability of EA's servers.

An automatic system that tests both the reliability and availability of online servers should allow online matchmaking to run more smoothly across EA’s more online focused games such as Battlefield 2042 or FIFA 22. It could also decrease the number of outright server failures as EA is able to see from player connection data which servers are performing optimally and which are lacking.

From its description, the patented system seems to be designed for use in large public servers with multiple players connecting every minute. This would allow for a constant and varied data stream for monitoring the server’s reliability; it is perfect then for still popular multiplayer EA titles. But the patent would have less application for smaller titles, or those that use dedicated servers.

This also shows they have no plans of stopping online gaming stuff. For a company that puts out so many online titles, it makes sense to invest in something like this. Server issues on online games launching is one of those issues where its hard to get right, if companies want to continue rolling out online games, either we need a massive push in server technology or companies need to roll out online titles in waves, alpha, beta, early launch etc.

They will not stop trying, this is the same EA that said in the 2010s that single player games were dead...They know what works/easy money - multiplayer games "leading" players to buy stuff.

I agree, but that same EA took that statement back and continued to make single player titles. As Dragon Age 4 removed the MP mode to keep it SP focused. So I think they learned last gen that single player games need to just stay that and MP titles need to fully be focused on that. BF 2042 MP only, Dragon Age 4 SP only etc.


That same EA also stated no to remasters and tested the waters with a few and started to do some near the ending of last gen. So....EA seems to be open to try lots of stuff and the current company isn't really as ironclad on such concepts as in the past.

Only thing I know for sure is that as of right now, online stuff is still a huge part of EA and lots of publishers looking for that Fortnite money lol
