There's too much coffee porn in this thread.

I go with black coffee. I'll take it any way I can get it, but I prefer a solid pour over to home brewing with a machine. I've had a siphon brew before which is also pretty awesome, but way more time consuming than even a regular pour over. Worth the time if it's an option.

As for roasts, I'm more a fan of medium to darker roasts and have no real preference in where the beans come from.

Ew Starbucks.

Why do people like drinking burnt coffee so much. Starbucks is pretty much only good for their specialty frilly frappucino and latte shit

Nectar of the gods. Makes life tolerable at 6am on a Monday.

I recently discovered cold brew at Urban Coffee Lounge in Kirkland, WA. It's pretty amazing. Low acidity and it gets me completely wired.

Most people aren't aware of local coffee shops or some places just don't even have them. It's also a matter of convenience.

Starbucks is the fastfood of coffee and because its so easily available everywhere, its much easier and convenient for people to get to than going into an actual shop and abiding by their rules (not all shops offer flavors or decaf or blended drinks & etc). Starbucks also offers drive thrus at some locations and for most people on the go, thats a far easier option than parking + going into an actual shop.

Its the sad and unfortunate truth. Hence why most people aren't familiar with fresh roasted coffee or local coffee businesses. :/

It really depends on which roast you get. The standard fare like pike place is usually burnt and awful but something like Komodo or Sumatra is really good. Not burnt and well balanced in flavour.

Also the clover stores are pretty cool. The clover machines make a great cup of coffee that lets you pick up on elements a standard drip doesn't while extracting more than a french press does.

Just don't buy in to the "reserve" coffee scheme. The clover machine's good but spend 30 more cents to get a komodo on there. Don't spend 5 bucks because the coffee came from hawaii

Most areas do not have smaller coffee roasters. And frankly a lot of smaller, local roasters kind of suck. Starbucks is extremely consistent and that's what people really like. They know every time they go in there going to get a drink that tastes almost exactly as it did the day before.

All three of these are the "Big Three" so to speak of the third wave movement. All have huge financial backing and a massive presence. Of the three I'd go Blue Bottle, Stumptown and Intelligentsia in order of preference. Intelligentsia roasts way to dark for my tastes. Blue Bottle got a great team in Tonx and Handsome, but I feel overall their quality has trended downhill as they've gotten bigger. Same thing with Stumptown.

I can easily rattle of 10, possibly more, roasters for you to try who will probably produce better stuff than those three.

Also, fuck "bullet proof coffee". That shit is gross
All I'm taking from that stuff is that perhaps I should consider looking into coconut oil more and have buttered toast and/or eggs alongside my coffee.

Well, I AM sort of fascinated with the idea of a proper butter coffee ala butter tea, but perhaps trying an approximated butter tea first would be better.

Anyone have an aeropress? Makes a delicious cup of coffee (and strong!) and is supremely cheap on amazon.

I'm familiar with the same amount of roasters and shops, I just figure for casual consumption or new goers for coffee, they're a good starting point.

Blue Bottle is absolutely one of my favorites though.

The order wasn't necessarily with ranking. ;____;
