Illinois State Senate passes measure designating neo-Nazi groups as terrorists

In the wake of violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, between white supremacists and counterprotesters, the Illinois State Senate wants white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups classified as terrorist organizations.

In a resolution authorized Sunday, lawmakers urge law enforcement to “pursue the criminal elements of these domestic terrorist organizations in the same manner and with the same fervor used to protect the United States from other manifestations of terrorism.”

State Sen. Don Harmon, a Democrat who introduced the measure, said he did so in response to Saturday’s “inexcusable violence committed by white nationalist & neo-Nazi groups in Charlottesville.”

In a series of tweets, Harmon said it is “vital that we stand in total opposition to the hatred, bigotry & violence displayed by these groups.”

Counterprotester run down by car
Hundreds of white nationalists and other right-wing groups converged Saturday on Charlottesville, which has drawn protests over the planned removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

Counterprotester Heather Heyer was killed when a car plowed into a crowd. The driver, James Alex Fields Jr., 20, has been charged with second-degree murder and state other crimes.

The Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have launched a civil rights investigation into the deadly crash. Investigators will probe Fields’ alleged motives and determine whether there’s enough evidence to bring federal charges, perhaps under hate crime laws.

The FBI also investigates domestic terrorism — and identifies suspects — based on whether “goals are to achieve political or social change through activities that involve force or violence,” according to federal guidelines.

But while Congress has formally defined “domestic terrorism,” federal lawmakers have never created a crime to match the classification, CNN legal analyst Page Pate writes.

I think part of the reason is because we didn't expect there to be so many Neo-Nazis in America until recently. I definitely didn't think they were an issue until the election.

Does the fact that the resolution "urges" LEOs to pursue them as terrorists constitute an order or a suggestion though?

Imagine if there was a president in office who had a fucking spine, to go in-front of a podium, and tell Neo Nazis, the KKK, and hate groups like this that their days were fucking numbered. That they were a terrorist group and would be treated as such. To denounce them as traitors to the state and to the very notion of what America stands for.

Wouldn't that be something?

Good first step, but far, far more needs to be done. Start placing these alt-right fucks on watch lists, investigate and shut down the various groups and forums that are nothing more than brownshirt recruitment centers, start actually arresting and charging these fucks.

Should be National Law:

1. Neo-Nazi/Alt-Right/White Supremacist groups designated "terrorists" and treated as such, being hunted down like the scum they ARE!

2. All those afflilated with Neo-Nazis/Alt-Right/White Supremacy, as enemies of our country and the liberty for which it stands, are sent to Gitmo.

3. Nazi-Sympathizers that aid and abet these terrorists will be charged as conspirators. If it's a family member, don't let your "blood" weigh you down. Cut them loose for YOUR sake.

4. It will be ILLEGAL to grant ANY permits to any Neo-Nazi/Alt-Right/White Supremacist groups. Hehehe...

5. It will be FORBIDDEN for anybody that promotes White Supremacy, Nazi ideals and Alt-Right Rhetoric from running for ANY office in the United States of America. Any person or persons that have flown under the radar, but have been discovered to subscribe to these evil values will be ousted from their position and a special election will be held to replace them.

This is pretty big. Finally white people committing terrorism on minorities is being called out for what it is by the government. Only took hundreds of years lol

This in untrue though. I remember them being quite active in my time back in the 80's along with white nationalist militias and we had some of the worst domestic terrorism at their hands. Up untill 9/11 our own home grown white nationalist anti government terrorists where responsible for the worst act of terrorism in Oklahoma and the government went hard on them and designated them as a threat. The problem is our godamn politicians slowly backed away from calling out the extreme right as they began voting in large numbers and affecting their pockets and again began ignoring the problem and after 9/11 it was now Muslims who apparently where the only ones allowed to be terrorists and it further gave the right wing politicians a away to ignore the extremists here. This is chickens coming to roost.
Every adminsitration has had countless reports on the growing far right threat and they kept ignoring it even calling it offensive to their base.
