Jason Statham will star in a new TV drama called Viva La Madness.

He will also executive produce the hour-long action thriller from Gaumont International. It's based on a book of the same name by crime writer J. J. Connolly, a sequel to Connolly's novel Layer Cake, which was previously adapted into a 2004 film starring Daniel Craig.


The series will follow an anonymous former criminal in the Caribbean, who soon joins forces with two London gangsters.
Statham hints that the story had first been conceptualized as a feature film, saying: "The way J.J. writes is so on the ball and authentic, it’s hard to let any of it go. Trying to lose characters or shave down scenes every other page didn’t work, we wanted it all. The best place was a 10 hour-plus show that lets you fully disappear into Connolly’s world."

Connolly will write the series, and will also executive produce alongside Statham and Steve Chasman.

Jason Statham is known his roles in the Transporter trilogy, Snatch, and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. This is his first TV starring role.
