"PS5 Dig" would've been a way cooler name than what we got. I don't think Sony would've gone for the theme song though:

Ninty really crushing it, its a comical gap if I understand it correctly. We need that Nintendo Sleep soon so they can have total control of our thoughts, lives AND dreams.

If I recall correctly during the PS1/PS2 era this used to be the complete opposite and Nintendo was never on these lists and it was Sony land.

Boy have things changed.

Nintendo can never give up this Hybrid game. It's working too well for them and the idea is just too great. Portable and Home console is the best of both worlds.

I reeeeeally hope Switch 2 is something along the lines of PS4 to PS4 Pro level power.

This is kind of true. The concept is really great. Since Nintendo was forced to abandon their home console market and unify their home console and handheld business after the massive Wii U failure, their next console will very likely be a continuation of the Switch concept. It's actually pretty easy: They just have to further improve every aspect that makes the Switch great. There is not need to for crazy hardware innovations.

Demon's Souls couldn't even sell 3000 copies? Damn.
~24K copies have been sold so far for DeS remake in 3 weeks which is lower than an indie game that was made by 2 people during their free time.

What a turnaround.

Animal crossing doesn't need much to top Super Mario bros as the best selling single sku ever in Japan, will it exceed the pokemon gold/silver combine? that'd be wild
also I know momotaro dentetsu has been around forever, but has it ever sold this well before?

Well, things should have been equally "bad" for sony during PS3 days (idk, I wasn't here around that time)... Also, N3DS was totally killing it too till like 1 or 2 years before Switch came out.

My surprise is to see Xbox Series S in the chart so close to PS4. I know it's a new gen and all but didn't rly expect it to sell that much in a single week in Japan.

I think they can get close to Series S. Its already a pretty small system in maybe 2 years they could shrink it down.

The digital ps5 has a high ratio. Only 25k Disc ps5 sold when you remove digital. Digital will be higher this gen on playstation which will help profits for everybody except retailers.

Hopefully sony can keep the stock coming.

I wonder where the people who bought an Xbox found it. My local stores looked at me as if I was crazy when I enquired. A bic camera - not a tiny store.

Nintendo had the GBA & Game Boy lines back then though, so it wasn't quite the same. Also as much as the N64 & GC hardware didn't do particularly well (5.5M & 4M respectively), Nintendo still had million sellers or near million sellers on each console which would've charted.

With digital Animal Crossing has supposedly outsold Pokemon Red / Green already (>8M). I think it'll be confirmed by next fiscal report.

Not sure but I have heard Xboxes are pretty hard to find in Japan. Only certain retailers carry it. Unfortunately I don't know which

Well it is its third week of sales in Japan. The XB1 was a monumental flop in Japan (was selling ~1K at this point), so seeing the XBS actually sell a bit more is nice. 3K is still not much for XBS.

Sony had the PSP at the time, so they were fine. It's why that generation was so healthy. PS3 was the worst selling console and sold 10M in the end, but there was still the Wii, PSP & DS all selling more. Plus even when the PS3 was selling poorly initially, the PS2 was still selling pretty well. Also even though the PS3 hardware sales were about as bad as PS5 due to supply issues, it still had some software sales. PS5 software sales are really just miserable so far in Japan.

Damn, totally forgot about PS2 legs, it was in the market for what? 13 years? I remember Sony stopping its production by around the time PS4 came out

Nintendo should keep selling the Switch for yeeeears. Even after they've released Switch 2.

What was Nintendo's longest lasting system?
NES? Gameboy? Wii?

3rd Party Top 10 Switch
  1. Minecraft (Microsoft) - 1.568.365
  2. Dragon Quest XI S (Square Enix) - 545.836
  3. Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun! (Bandai Namco) - 522.289
  4. Fishing Spirits: Nintendo Switch Version (Bandai Namco) - 508.626
  5. Momotaro Dentetsu (Konami) - 472.426
  6. Yo-kai Watch 4 (Level 5) - 358.356
  7. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 (Sega) - 333.678
  8. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate* (Capcom) - 309.596
  9. Dragon Quest Builders 2 (Square Enix) - 295.237
  10. eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020 (Konami) - 248.024
Momotaro next week will move into 2nd position, with a some of the biggest weeks of the year still to come. By Week 1 of 2021 the game will already be above 1 million physical.
That would actually be a stronger launch quarter than Super Mario Party which had JoyCon bundles and launched in October:

Launch - 126.275
2018 - 764.853
2019 - 497.862
2020 - 357.005*

Momotaro's floor is actually higher than any third party game on the PS4 except Monster Hunter World, the game won't have much issue selling over 1.5 million which seems like the absolute floor for the game's lifetime sales. It's extremely likely with digital for the game it ends up Konami's best selling game of all time in Japan during it's lifetime. Just depends on how soon Konami rolls out a sequel.
Also with this weeks Konami becomes the 4th 3rd Party publisher to pass 1 million sales on the system, joining Bandai, Square & Microsoft with just 4 games.

NES. I think they were still producing NESes (Famicoms) in Japan into the year 2000 or something ridiculous like that. Game Boy would be second though, especially if you include the Color.
